Since the Edge of Fate update, I’ve been experiencing severe frame pacing issues in Destiny 2 on PC.
The game reports a rock-solid 170 FPS, but Steam’s FPS graph shows constant dips into the 30–40 FPS range every 3 seconds or so. This results in gameplay that feels like 30–40 FPS — choppy, jittery, and far from smooth.
Before this update, I was running an actual, stable 170 FPS without these dips. This is not an isolated hardware issue:
My drivers are fully updated.
I’ve tested other games — all run perfectly smooth.
I’ve seen the exact same issue reported by players on RTX 5080 + Intel 14900K systems, as well as many other high-end builds.
This is 100% a frame pacing problem introduced with Edge of Fate and tied to Bungie removing Exclusive Fullscreen mode. Borderless Windowed (forced by the update) is clearly not handling frame presentation properly.
Specs:
Ryzen 9800X3D
RTX 3080
32GB DDR5
1440p @ 165Hz
Community Evidence:
There’s an active Reddit thread where many others are posting videos and Steam FPS graphs showing the exact same frame dips:

Bungie, please address this ASAP.
The game is unplayable for many of us right now — this is not a minor hitch or FPS drop, it’s a fundamental frame delivery problem affecting smoothness and aiming across the entire game.
Bungie fix this or give us a solution because it's been months and nothing!

Edited by BlueScreenVW: 12/6/2025 12:09:56 PMHave you tried unparking your CPU cores? I run the game on an Intel 9700K with an Nvidia RTX 5080 (upgraded recently from RTX 3070) and a 3440x1440 175Hz oled gaming monitor. I'm obviously CPU limited formally but Destiny 2 runs super smooth with high graphics settings, V-Sync + G-sync on in nVidia control panel, V-synd off in-game, max fps in-game set at 172 Hz and Nvidia Reflex set to ON + Boost in-game to minimize latency. The framerate cap is probably not necessary when running G-sync + V-sync together, though. The Reflex Boost setting only added around 5-10W of increased power consumption measured with the Nvidia app. I've made sure all CPU cores are unparked (never parked for power saving reasons) for several years with good results. I still let them downclock when not active, just not park themselves. Framerates are high and latency low and most importantly I have absolutely no stutter anymore. I've run Windowed Fullscreen (which now identifies as Fullscreen) since Bungie implemented DXGI Flip for Destiny 1/27/2022 and consider this the single biggest QoL improvement in Destiny 2 ever, since it made alt-tabbing to desktop (DIM) instantaneous. I firmly do not believe the switch to Windowed Fullscreen is the underlying cause for stutter issues. Another possible cause of stutter mentioned on youtube is that the WiFi module of never motherboards can cause repeat Windows system errors that could manifest as stutter. The most recent Nvidia driver 591.44 fixes the performance issues that came with Windows 11 25H2 update recently. It didn't mention Destiny 2 specifically but I do believe it increased my fps in the Renegades environments by around 10%. Can't say if it reduces stutter since I don't have stutter in the first place.
