Make a noob island / tutorial. Not just the buttons.

Have all New Lights and the lowest tier players stay in a practice tutorial game mode for PvP until they demonstrate adequate skill to move on. Or if their accuracy and gear choices betray their smurf account. Thoroughly explain the game in all of its complexity. Like the license system in Gran Turismo or MGS VR missions, or Monster Hunter's tutorials. Make them demonstrate the individual skills to join the full Crucible experience and greater population. Give them gear and a choice of exotic for finishing platforming and accuracy tests. Or after a certain amount of played hours. This will give them a safe environment to learn and maybe help with player retention. Make sure it's a good crash course so you don't lose their attention too quickly.

  • So, skill based matchmaking?

    • Yeah fr. Especially to teach PvP basics like sliding while shooting. Reading radar properly and strafing and sprinting. Also certain accuracy and speed requirements to ensure mastery of those mechanics and aim.

    • As a "not so great but getting better" pve player, I have been playing Destiny almost exclusively when real-life stuff allows for about the last 1.75 years. I am not a "natural gamer" and have to grind out the changes to my capabilities via determination and trying to get responses into "muscle memory." I did try a few matches of pvp for the New Lights questline when it I first got it. I spent the majority of my time dead with no idea what I was doing wrong and no idea how to find my way around. Miserable experience. I couldn't do enough damage with the weapons I had/was comfortable with at the time. Game play felt super fast, and I felt like I was trying to hit a ping pong going at Mach 1 with a needle. I tried again a while ago with more pve experience under my belt. Same result. Overwhelmed, frustrated, and miserable that I was the player adding to the other team's kill-count.I mayyy have got 1 player? Maybe? Did I quit the match? No, it didn't cross my mind to do. I was and am the blueberry that other pvp players would be upset about being matched with, so they're more likely to quit. No fun for anyone. Needless to say, I still have the New Lights questline to finish for Shaxx (and I picked up Saint too to stop him blinking at me.) I'm not likely finish them anytime soon, possibly never. A training ground sounds like it might work out, especially if it was linked to a personal kill-count or some other method of determining the development of skill. A capable player should be able to breeze through in no time. Maybe no rewards drop to help stop people above the skill level hanging out. I don't know what the solution is, but until something is done for an easier intro to pvp skills, I won't inflict my lack of skill onto a team.

That's basically what the cosmodrome is Shoot some Fallen and Hive, learn how bounties, loot and quests work, learn movement and abilities, help knock off Aztecross kill a Wizard(like that's something that is difficult, I'm ashamed to call him a guardian), go watch high level players endlessly killing adds in skywatch for some reason there free New Player guides on YouTube take it from there

        • A game mode for new players to practice would good. Let it be of note most of this games PvP is movement, not so much aim. Even I who has been playing for nearly 10 years and I’m still no where near the peak skill levels of this game. It just takes time, practice and dedication.

          • Or, just shove everyone into a new ‘quick play’ playlist, where players of all skill levels exist. That’d be nice for new players, and it’d feel the most natural. Keep in mind, first impressions are important.

          • This old tortoise has been grinding Trials gear since way back…when it was fun to try and reach level 3 or 5 - for loot…7 was not going to happen! My 0.3% stat hasn’t changed much since then…except when my PvP warrior son takes over! 😂 It isn’t that I don’t know how to play or what to do, it’s just that I’m nearly always in the wrong spot at the wrong time?! 😵‍💫 That is all. Ease Springs! 🫡

          • They need to make an integrated field ops mission. Shaxx takes you on an ops and shows you: How radar works. Look! It’s red. WHATS DOES THAT MEAN, GUARDIAN! Here’s a corner. SLIDE AROUND IT, GUARDIAN! You’ve been shot. GET TO COVER, GUARDIAN! REPLENISH. HEALTH. GUARDIAN!! YOU GD IDIOT. DONT PUT YOUR HEAD BACK OUT THERE! ded You shot your opponent. PRESS THE ADVANTAGE, GUARDIAN. DONT JUST STAND THERE AND WAIT TO BE A VICTIM, GUARDIAN.

            • They’d need to remove the new light quest (light reforged) that throws new players into crucible for both quickplay and comp matches.

              • I was thinking of how they need to make a giant haunted house for halloween with at least 100 secret rooms. Very few of the rooms would be noob friendly.
