Account and Cross Save Shenanigans: A Story

Hello, Guardians! It's waferbaby from Ishtar Collective - long-time reader, third time poster. I need a little bit of help because, as it turns out, I'm an enormous idiot? Who knew. I had Cross Save enabled on my account forever (all fine), with my main account attached to my then current PSN account (all fine). After we moved back to Australia, I decided I'd switch to a local account - which meant, of course, re-buying all the things. So I bit the bullet and did that, and then decided to migrate my account on Bungie from the old PSN to the new PSN. I imagine, as I pause here, that you can see where this is going. I disabled Cross Save (all fine), switched over to the new PSN account (all fine), deleted the old PSN account on PSN itself (I hate leaving old data around, but, less fine), and went on my way. And that was when, yeah, I realised I'd just sort of nuked my Warlock, since I hadn't actually used the character on any of the other platforms I had attached to the account. And I figured there wasn't any real way to fix this (and you can't make another Cross Save change for 90 days), so I sucked it up, rolled a Hunter, and did everything over from scratch. Some time passed. However, only recently did I realise that the character data is still showing up, under a new Bungie account ID, but seemingly all there! Does this mean there's some way I can.... undo my idiocy? Or do I just move on? <3

  • Hey there,
And that was when, yeah, I realised I'd just sort of nuked my Warlock, since I hadn't actually used the character on any of the other platforms I had attached to the account.
When you cross-save, you pick one of the accounts as the Active account, and that active account is what you see on all the linked platforms. Playing on one of the other platforms wouldn't have been a way to preserve that Warlock, it would just be you accessing your PSN character from a different platform. There was no way disconnecting cross-save was going to go differently, that Warlock was always going to be lost, on the old PSN account.
However, only recently did I realise that the character data is still showing up, under a new Bungie account ID, but seemingly all there! Does this mean there's some way I can.... undo my idiocy? Or do I just move on?
If the old PSN account containing that Warlock has been deleted, then that Warlock can't be accessed as the account can't be authenticated. You may still see that character 'in the system', as deleting the PSN account doesn't mean we can't see an 'echo' of the character, the matches they played in, the items they last had on them, etc. Without being able to authenticate it, it is no longer playable and unless Sony is able to undelete the account, this is completely irreversable. Also even if you were able to access it again, there is no way to unite it (or any part of the original account including items, progress) with your current Hunter, you'd have to swap between two PSN accounts whenever you want to use a different character.

    • 90day lock out period is mandatory. Bungie will not remove or shorten the time period. Your warlock is permanently bound to your old psn account.
