Sounds neat, prolly won’t read though (it’s been mostly manga for me.) but it reminds me of another series that delves into a less looked into section of isekai. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash (or something)
This is a Light Novel series (about 14+ volumes?) that also has a 12 episode anime (it was made to advertise the LNs) Basically, a group of people are isekai’d into a fantasy world with no memories of (probably) Earth. Most of them (the strong and promising candidates) get recruited into the kingdom’s Reserve Army to receive training and grow stronger. The main characters are the leftover rookies who now need to find a living. Naturally that’s hunting monsters outside town. Classic rpg stuff. But they aren’t having the greatest time. They struggle pretty greatly against goblins, and are pretty dysfunctional (being a group formed out of circumstance rather than choice.) You get to watch the struggle and growth of protagonists without cheat powers trying to survive in a world that doesn’t care, with no memory of where they came from. — The anime is beautiful and incorporates watercolor into the background/environment art. Really makes it stand out. The LNs are solid as well. I don’t really read Light Novels (only for 4 series I’ve come across) so I really liked the anime to look for the source material. I read the 2nd and 3rd books a few years ago (only ones I could find free.) and it was addicting. If I find the others (in order) at a bookstore, I’ll probably buy/read them too. Definitely a good anime, pretty neat read (at least the second and third book). Just has a different tone compared to the common Isekai.
• I would describe A Chronicle of Lies as being more High Fantasy/portal fantasy than anime Isekai. My spin on it is that the MC has schizophrenia and he thinks the fantasy world is just another delusion. So he refuses to believe it's real. Definitely an uncommon tone in the genre.
