The new sandbox update goes live... everywhere?

Even as a high skill player, it confused me why the ammo changes, and not just the hp/dmg changes were also being added to the standard 6v6 playlist. Increasing health to allow the weapon sandbox to breath more (Ie tuning can vary more precisely and broadly when you have more hp ranges to play with), is generally positive for the game, and will make the experience of playing against people less frustrating. And the ammo changes, in modes where the goal is to WIN, encouraging playing with intent is a great thing. But, when that experience is applied to the casual playlist, you don't have anywhere for those wacky, higher power builds destiny is known for to exist. You also inevitably, force players to play with intent, even in the casual modes, which can be much more draining mentally than otherwise. Let me be clear, this change WILL benefit me more than it hinders me in 6v6, but will, at the same time, reduce the fun factor as many builds become inviable. Mayhem is the mode you see tons of supers. Control is the mode you see tons of special ammo. Comp/trials is the mode you see tons of primary fire. I feel like thats not crazy to ask. I enjoy using double GL, double sniper or some combo of special weapons in qp sometimes, and I think that's a very important part of the game that should be kept, even if its not as easy to do now as it was in forsaken. I really hope the feedback we give as community can be focus on exactly what it is we want, and how we'd like to get there, without the more emotionally charged responses to this change that i've seen about recently. (also plz give GLs the 20% dmg boost with other special weapons, the main offenders on GLs are proxy nades who'm take a lot of risk of the weapons away, increase the dmg penalty of running those, and let normal GLs remain. thnk u)

I agree pvp has just been a sweat fest lately due to sbmm. Casual modes used to be fun because I could run whatever I want. Sbmm forced everyone to run meta stuff removing the fun factor of running off meta builds because you get punished harshly. Not that big of a deal since I can still mindlessly play the game, win, and have fun (when the matchmaking decides to not be one sided but that’s an issue for another day). With checkmate being applied to all of crucible it basically takes away the casual factor. I have to practice more to hit head shots consistently (news flash I’m not a competitive player not have time to practice gun skill everyday). The special weapon ammo economy point changes basically limit my options even more so (I like having options of tools to slay with, that weapon diversity helped keep pvp feeling fresh for example if I got sick of a hand cannon I could run a pulse or smg). Worst of all like you or someone else meantioned the only people benefiting from the special weapon changes are higher skilled players as they will have consistent ammo generation while lower skilled players will just get shafted since they will have nothing to counter with. Then the worst thing imo is the ability uptime nerf will just ruin build crafting even more. Abilities are a part of this game I don’t get why people dislike them so much. Gun play alone is just boring especially just primary. If I want good gun play with no abilities I will just go play cod. TLDR checkmate changes suck for casuals and pvp will just become a sweat fest when all the casuals leave from being forced to get gud. Plus the changes take away all the fun factor for people that want more than just primary gunplay.

    • I really don’t understand the complaints about special ammo. If you perform decently, you will pretty much always have special ammo up (since it gives you a good amount of ammo every drop), besides at the very beginning of the match. This is just going to make people play smarter and not mindlessly rush in with shotguns and fusions or camp in the back with a sniper the whole game.

The feedback the community gives is always going to be conflicting because different people want different things. Trying to find a sweet spot that pleases most players is going to be very tricky. I don’t think the changes are severe enough to destroy anyone’s ability builds. Those things are still going to be important. They also have a potential to feel more powerful when they’re not in constant use and not constantly up against everyone else’s. However, it is difficult to see how double special will work. I wonder if they’ll address that. There are a lot of cheap options in Crucible. They’ve crept up over the years and I personally feel like a slight dial back on them is long overdue. Gunplay is just as important as space magic in this game. There’ll be further tuning for sure and I suspect they’ll ease up on a few things before TFS drops.

I think that part of the change is also to make ability damage weaker. So less frequent abilities that also do less damage. There are so many changes that it's hard to predict exactly what it will be. Slower most likely, more team shotting for sure, but other than that, we have to see. Less fusion rifles I hope.

          • Bungie has always talked about how Destiny 2 has really good movement, and they're right. I feel like some of these changes will allow people to use those movements better in a gunfight to showcase skill. I don't know though. I hate Crucible, and I love a quick TTK with my PvP, so Hardcore CoD is my thing, and Momentum is the best Bungie can get out of me.

          •
Comp/trials is the mode you see tons of primary fire.
No. Let's not just say things. Tons of abilities and special weapons. The trade off for double special and other random builds is way too huge to say those things are worth sacrificing the game being playable for. The game as it is is not working. If its going to work like a PvP and have anything close to PvP outcomes then some of the sandbox stuff is going to have to work more like a PvP.
