Sad, Frustrated... idk...

TL;DR - Sad and frustrated at the lack of incentive the game gives me to play at this point in my D2 history (almost 3k hours), and at the lack of desire I have to do these things. Going to keep this pretty plebian since I see no point in being aggressively upset... This morning I logged in to do the weekly story as I do every week, since I am in the office on reset day. I went up to speak to Riven, got the next step, read it, stared at my monitor for 2-3 minutes and turned my xbox off... First time i've done that with a main quest step, ever. I don't have an interest in doing another coil to collect things i've already collected hundreds, if not thousands of. It makes me incredibly sad. I've got thousands of hours on this game. I love the lore, I have all the books. I love the storytelling. But I couldn't be bothered because the weekly MAIN quest step was "do the seasonal activity" again. It's not that I don't have the time, I am just not interested enough to slosh through 15-30 mins of seasonal activities, to end up running a Riven's Lair, to get an egg where the chest should be, to go back to the helm, to run a lost sector in DC (that still doesn't have alt LZs), to get a 30 second conversation BACK in the Helm, to be left disappointed after sleepwalking/speedrunning through the actual gameplay of the weekly quest. I figured okay well if i don't wanna do the quest step, maybe I can do something else, OH the Dawning is live! Same thing... Memento is baller. Really cool. The weapons? not-a-one. Armor is purchase only. I don't buy the event cards. What is there to chase? So now, I haven't done the weekly quest, AND am uninterested in the seasonal event going on. I am really sad, really frustrated, bored, pissed off, dejected, unmotivated to play; and I wish something would happen to bring that spark back. Maybe it's the fact that I have everything already, maybe it's because the content isn't great, maybe its me just being pessimistic. I don't feel the love anymore, and it really breaks my heart.

  • I'm not doing the Dawning this year. Just don't care. Coil and Riven are both boring. Making sidearms anti barrier is icing on the insult cake and proof that no one at Bungle plays the game. I've just got to 104 so I've got all the gear that I paid for, if not any decent content. Not buying the last chapter so I guess I'll be moving on too.

  • Bungie gave up. Vote with your wallet. Make them earn your time and money. There's no shame in playing something else.

    • But you’re still playing it though, so what incentive do Bungie have to actually improve things if you’re still here playing it? However I would say there just comes a point with any game where you’re just done. This happened to me 2 years ago. No hard feelings to Bungie or the game, I’d sunk WAY to much time in, had fun and it became a second job, so I packed it in. Still would like Bungie to succeed with Marathon but I’m sure they’re probably bored making this game now and would like to move on too.

For the love of God stop doing the seasonal activity 4000 times in the first two weeks of the season. Seasonal stories ALWAYS have you doing season activities. Wait until after the seasonal story is over to burn yourself out on it. Then you can grind it, get seasonal challenges, and your red borders all in one fell swoop. Like, yeah, this game doesn't have a ton of variety these days, but some players do this crap to themselves. Y'all log in, repeat the new thing 8000 times, and then when the game actually asks you to do it once, you sh*t the damn bed. Here's an idea, don't do the seasonal activity 16,000 times in 2 weeks and when the game asks you to do it, it won't be such a chore. It's what, the first time the seasonal story asked you to do a coil? How is it Bungie's fault you grinded it 32,000 times beforehand?

      • Kinda like the idea of a d3 next gen graphics are getting old.gun play feels good still, new enemies new characters. I want us to lose in the end of d2 everyone dies and everything lost a new dark age, begin with no traveler no powers, nomads on the run. The last city a ruined grave yard a reminder of the battle lost and death of the traveler. Could be a grey area of what it means to wield powers. Ide like to stand on the wall for a moment, looking up and seeing the shattered wreckage of the traveler in the sky. Fighting a fight we can’t win.A fight for survival as people not of gods. Until Boom portal opens Osiris steps and so begins the story. ;)

      • The next step of the weekly story is a mission in dreaming city…. …EXACTLY THE SAME MISSION we did already discovering the dreaming city some time ago… Recycled content, hamster wheel, just pathetic 😤

This season has just been a massive letdown since most of the content is reissued or reused. Blind well, and the coil and rivens lair are just the same with arenas from last wish, then the story missions are ripped from forsaken. The new dungeon too imo isn’t that fun and even the final boss is a reskinned Chimera. The only reason I’m playing right now is to just get my seasonal weapons crafted, cosmetics, and the dawning momento. It’s sad this studio has to use fomo to get people to play.

          • I gave up in May. The same things you described sucked the fun out of the game. I have around 7,000+ hours in D1 and D2 and had 90 hours into the D1 Beta on Xbox 360. I played the game to death. The only thing Bungle cares about is how much money they can squeeze out of the players, while constantly saying they will do better. They won't. I've moved on to other games. I urge you look at others too.

            • I started the new season - or whatever it is - and just got overwhelmed by the unknown. Destiny has always been a game that has no hints or instructions. There's something wrong with a game that you have to watch YouTube to see how it's played. I bought Halo Infinite. It's Halo. What more can you say? Lotsa sameo - sameo. This version has a few improvements. The Chief's ability to toss out a bit of dental floss and winch himself up the hill is sorta cool. Coupla new guns. One thing I will say, is "If you can see it, you can go there!" Bungie said that but didn't deliver. If there's a mountain, you can go to the top. What is different from Destiny, is that one thing follows another, with a few side issues to do if you want to. The down side is annoying - ANNOYING - chatter by some text reading dude with "Press X to do this. Press X to do that", endlessly, with no way to turn it off, or lower it's volume. It even rabbits on over the game dialogue. The poor little A.I. chatters away, but this dude talks right over the top of her, to the extent that you have to read what she's saying. Anyway, I played till the end, and now I can go back and do the bits I missed. After that, I fired up Destiny. Dunno why, but it took ten or fifteen minutes to load and start. I wasn't sure what to do, so I looked around for something new, and saw the Riven at the HELM. I started it's event, and spent most of the time dead, or following the other two. Half a minute dead is too long! I don't know what they did! They ran around picking up stuff. There was gas everywhere and you had to do something to cure yourself. I never found out what it was. Just another of Bungie's ridiculous name for an object. The perks were that the event was at a level of five above the player. Doesn't say if it's my level it's five above, or the highest of the three players. I'm just not interested in these sort of challenges. I don't enjoy sweaty! Eventually, the event ended. I didn't go to the chest, as I had killed about two enemies, and I couldn't be bothered. There's nothing different. There's another artifact. Another haul up the light level. Another long session with "Pinnacles" I can't be bothered to repeat this same stuff over and over.

I understand completely. Been around since the beginning of Destiny 1 myself. Although I play on PC now, that obviously wasn't always the case. I was re-arranging some displays in the other room, and I walked by, sat down, and picked this old relic up and just kind of stared at it, smiled then sighed, put it down and walked off. I've made my fair share of memories; most of my friends that I used to play with on a constant basis and do raids with back in D1 have long since quit, and while the nostalgia does trickle back, I came to terms long ago that the 'Destiny' game model / design I used to be so excited to play everyday, is long-gone. I log in to do some casual PvP and keep in touch with the few old friends over the years that still sometimes log in to play, but besides the weekly story mission, there's very little actual progression once you hit 1810 and get all the gear you really wanted. If they wanted to keep player retention with a somewhat good idea this season (since it is 7-months long), they should have brought EVERY Nightfall weapon into rotation-- atleast that would have gave people a reason to log in most weeks to get Nightfall weapons they missed. My main advice is a decent-length break-- play other games. I've been having to do so every couple of months just to keep the idea of booting up the game passed the title screen relevant without hitting ALT+F4 and loading up another game. I plan to see the game through until The Final Shape, and after that, it's getting uninstalled and put into the Steam Library for good, and I won't even consider turning an eye to Marathon after seeing what Bungie has become and done to this game.

                  • I play something else... I have almost six months left to finish the season pass, if I finish it at all. Furthermore, I excused so many things Bungie did over the years, I'm tired of it.

                    • It's greed man, GREED! Bungie is in dire NEED of money right lol. But no seriously, the game is just a money pit nowadays there's no love, no effort, and no more excuses as to why the game is literally a shell of its former self. Scummy behavior by bungie has resulted in lowering the bar even further and now the old stuff that was getting the smallest amount of love and effort to diversify it has now lost even that. So the game has just gone right back to boring snooze fest. Like grind activity A for quest step B to get to point C to then obtain item D and then rinse and repeat each week for 8 weeks. Really riveting and unique stuff huh, no wonder so many players quit every season.

I feel we've (the devs and us both) optimized the motivation out of destiny. Gun rolls don't matter just shard until you get all the red boarders Red boarders don't matter just use harminizers Leveling crafted guns doesn't matter just buy Levels But guns also don't matter because abilities are so strong The 3 core activities have nothing to chase. No Lunas howl or redrix. Catalysts are practically given away in the first activity you do. If you're not doing trials, gms, or raids already you probably aren't going to start. No more grinding light and seeing the number go up. Titles are either too annoying for most to try or too easy to care about. I could go on but I think that'd get gratuitous. Probably already has tbh. I'm not trying to say there isn't anything fun or anything at all to chase. But I personally feel most of the chase has been optimized out one way or another. It leaves to much room for you to mindlessly play a strike with no goal and ask "why?" I'm honestly mostly still playing some myself bc i love crucible.

                        • This is the byproduct of them caring more about weekly logins ( timegating ) than anything else. Ever since the low stakes, meh loot seasonal model it’s just routine after routine. It worked well enough at first “ look at how consistent these logins are “. Then the players got tired of the same predictable formula over and over. Especially because there is always a repetitive seasonal activity loop that they lock all story info behind. Bungie cared/cares way more about their logins than they do any enjoyment or quality. Now everyone is simply tired of it

                            • If the seasons are bad now just wait till you see what crap they give us as a filler with the Final Shape being pushed till June 2024. I wonder how devs think fetching ingredients and making cookies for characters around the Destiny world is exciting for us adults. The Last Wish is disappointing, same old Dreaming City and no new enemies. The weapons and gear from Riven is trash. The only thing I’m looking forward to is the new exotic quest dropping on the 19th for the exotic strand bow. I’m actually glad the Final Shape is the last installment for Destiny, their ideas are getting really thin. Time for something brand new from Bungie/Sony. Hang in there bud, June isn’t that far away…😉

                            • You've achieved a new version of FOMO for players. Finally Over My Obsession. I suspect many players are reaching this point after playing the game for years. After all, everything gets boring if you do it long enough. Even astronauts get bored with their jobs on occasion so it's no surprise you are just not excited about doing the same things or similar things over and over again in the game. It's just human nature.
