Do you rate things on a scale from 1 to 10? Please stop; the 0 to 10 scale is far superior.
Why? Well, what if you want to imply something is halfway, or 50% - you would say it’s a 5, correct? Well, the midpoint between 1 and 10 is 5.5, so a 5 is actually less than what you think it means on that scale. With the 0 to 10 scale, 5 is exactly in the middle.
Furthermore, what if you want to indicate a 0 or 0% score? You can’t do that on the 1 to 10 scale, where 1 implies at least some value.
Tl;dr: the 0 to 10 scale is better

3 RepliesEdited by Cultmeister: 4/28/2023 3:42:27 PMHonestly, I don’t think many people actually use the 1-10 scale as you describe it. I would always have 0 as a possible rating, regardless if I said I was using 1-10 or 0-10. The thing is 0 is basically a non-rating, and if we’re not using decimal numbers then the first number we can rate something is 1, so 1-10 makes just as much sense.

1 Reply1-10=-9 0-10=-10 -10<-9 Therefore 1-10 is greater

This post is a 7.2425/10, good stuff but could be better

No. Because you can’t rate something that doesn’t exist. Zero is literally “no-thing.

1 ReplyHow about use your words? Rating scales are dumb.

The -3 to 3 system is the way to go.
-
1 ReplySo on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the scale of 1-10?
-
the Runway scale is way more useful anyway, anything under .7 gets rounded to 0

Never cease to amaze me

Edited by Speaker: 4/28/2023 3:33:05 PM5.5 may be the median of the range 1-10 but humans generally don't split hairs like you are doing here. We were all quite content not having to ponder this, at least I was. And now I'm agreeing with you and cursing Mathematics as I always have. What a day. Edit: furthermore a scale of 1-10 has a range of 9. Meaning rating something 0-9 Means the exact same thing. However I believe we as humans love the roundness of 1 and 10

4 RepliesWhether you allow zero or not, 5 is half of 10. If I hold up both my hands to show 10 digits, then take one hand away, I’ll be left with half the number of digits. Allowing me to remove my remaining hand to show zero, or forcing me to always keep at least one digit raised, doesn’t change that.

3 RepliesI rate this post at an 8, losing 2 points because you seem to have put a little too much thought into this, lol.
