Personally, I find it at least exciting that the top comp rank Ascendant doesn't have to include those with the highest skill level or top-notch game understanding.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. Every mode in the game is already like this outside of Trials. What is so wrong with having a mode where it isn't best "you know what" wins and everything in the mode reinforcing that? In other modes it just turns into a cycle of cheese and the game handling the cheese with you know what. I'm not sure what people are so afraid of when the majority of PvP already works like what you're talking about. As far as the top comp rank, there's one mode that no one had learned how to play yet and another that very few people really know how to play so its not something that most people that play PvP regularly are probably expecting to work perfectly in terms of where everyone ends up this early. Its more or less fine the way it works but when it comes to SBMM in general I just don't get why some of the things that it does can't be criticized and some of the things that it doesn't do just get pushed like they're objective reality. It doesn't have to be the competitive or endgame modes but I do think that a lot of people want something in the game that's not best you know what wins. And for what its worth that was a problem with "CBMM" a lot of the time too.

  • In LFG areas, super-versed players are often preferred and, in turn, players with poorer stats are more often made into outsiders. That's a reason for me to claim that the community spirit is missing here. A strong player doesn't have to drastically increase your chances of winning, he might prefer a playstyle that puts you at a disadvantage - the PvP setting also includes a team environment, which makes the whole thing even more complex. So maybe you shouldn't argue about who is better now, but trust the sophisticated algorithms and just enjoy the game

The algorithms are going to be sophisticated regardless of the way it works. All I'm trying to say is that since SBMM individualizes certain things (sometimes egregiously so) that it might work better to individualize other things instead rather than link everything to the team a person is on and winning and losing. It could cause people to feel more ownership over their experience and possibly result in corresponding feelings of responsibility being linked to that. Then, when people have an idea of what kind of player they are because they were more a part of the process of becoming that player than can ever be offered by sbmm (tbh, that's something I wouldn't really know but hear me out), they would find it easier to put themselves on the teams they feel they belong on due to having more of a say in developing their own role and approach.
