Windows Defender causing Moderate NAT and stopping fireteam joining

I came back to D2 after a little while and whenever I tried to join any fireteam, I would get an error along the lines of 'Your home network is configured with a Moderate NAT Type'. I messed around with different networks and my router settings for hours but nothing would fix it. Occasionally the error would change to just 'A network issue' rather than the NAT Type error. I eventually uninstalled my Kaspersky anti-virus and it still wouldn't work. The final thing I tried was turning off Windows Defender Firewall and this fixed the issue. Is this only an issue for me, or is Destiny 2 now incompatible with Windows Defender Firewall (perhaps since a recent Windows update)? Any ideas on how to fix this so that I can play D2 whilst Windows Defender is turned on?

  • Hi there. Depending on your configuration, firewall settings may block or restrict data to/from the game. Some anti-virus programs may also cause issues.
