I'm throwing my hat into the ring: Gambit is ruined.

I have LOVED Gambit from the very beginning, warts and all (and by warts, I mean blueberries). On paper, the changes sounded great. But in practice... I can't play this. Invader kills heal a COMICAL amount to the Primeval, and the health gating/immunity phases are completely, *obscenely* inconsistent. I've been able to find the good in every iteration of this game mode, but I can't defend this.

  • They should keep ads health as it is now, the boss set-up as it was before and go to best of 3 rounds again

  • My biggest gripe is that you can’t see where the invader is until the invader is obviously showing themself. You used to be able to see the nametag and know how to position yourself and attack. Now I just see my teammates get picked off until I’m next or they’re out in the open and I have a chance to shoot back before a rocket blows me up.

      • bungie needs to either completely rework gambit or just drop it completely. the amount of people who had 1% - 2% of total playtime in gambit in the recent bungie wrap-up email was insane. Invasions can completely turn the tide of a match and make all the time you spent in a match feel worthless. I have never played a game mode in any game that can kill me or my friends mood as fast as gambit can, we go from laughing and making jokes to just wanting to get the match over with (even if we're stomping the other team). Punishments for leaving matches are too light as well, I can't even count how many times i've had teammates leave at the start of a game for literally no reason (right before writing this, a 3 stack on my team left as soon as we spawned in).

      • get rid of the health gate, reduce the number of invasions and reduce the amount the boss heals per death. they said they wanted to make it less reliant on the invader but theyve done the complete total exact oposite here.

        • Invade kills are absurd right now. I Like the health gating as it gives you a better chance to come back, along with pushing for more role building like in Gambit prime. (Invaders are more focused on invasion specific builds, ad clear or high DPS for the people who stay behind to clear waves and envoys) The shield + invasion kills currently is hard to work around unless you are hard watching the Primevals health and can judge intervals of damage, and while I enjoy it, I can understand how many don't (My clan mates are very vocal about this as well) I think it is an overall improvement, but there are new negatives.

          • Surprisingly I like the changes, feels like its more balanced and you always have a chance to come back unlike before with people insta melting the prime evil.

            • I don't understand this. I'm not sure how many gambit mains are commenting here. I'm not one of them but I can say most of the changes are positive and the most fun I've had in gambit. I think you've played the game mode for 2 years untouched and haven't adapted to the changes yet, so in just one week people go on a rant. This is the first time where you can make actual comebacks even with blue berries without spamming invasions. Players are just waiting to nuke the boss because that's what they have been doing for the past 2 years and now since that boring recipe is changed they can't deal. They give heavy after every front so you either clear ads with it, save it for boss damage or go invade. The other team has to make the same decision. So its like a......game. With fewer invasions makes the the role of invader more meaningful especially with the health gains in the boss fight. So players should do they're best to eliminate the threat instead of just hiding. Especially since the invader can't see who has how many motes now.

              • Up until the primeval the changes feel really good… but then it’s abhorrent, where a good invader with a tracking rocket (eyes/ghally) wins the game. Quickest fix for Bungie would either to limit invasions to 4 per game (at 40 motes, 80 motes, primeval at 2/3rds, primeval at 1/3rd) or limit the primeval to two immunity phases, so even if the invader does wipe your team you don’t have to then start over. I’m also a fan of the idea of each player getting 1 invader token, which would limit each team to 4 invasions, and mean one player couldn’t invade twice

                  • I struggle with just how long the boss fights are taking. I can be 5 minutes into a fight and both bosses are still full health because of multiple invades.

                    • I only did it this time around to get the AR. I did get one with a decent roll w/ dynamic sway and vorpal but that’s probably the best I’ll get

                    • If they reduced the primeval healing by like 50%, reduced the frequency of invading and reduced the spawns of the envoys I think it would be OK. But yeah, they turned everything up to 11 this season and it's just not fun at all.

                    • I feel the same way as you. I loved gambit and miss gambit prime (i've reset 25 times lol). Yet, these changes to the Primeval healing feel off. I just feel like the boss fight is unnecessary in terms of duration.

                    • Persoanlly as a player who loves gambit, i am finding it hard to understand why bungie can't figure out the obvious. Just keep the singular box of heavy on the wall that spawns, and stop heavy from dropping or disable heavy weapons during invasions. Invaders have wallhacks and an oversheild. If you cant kill at least a few with that advantage without heavy you probably shouldnt be invading

                    • I think most of the changes are good and it's overall better, mostly because invaders cant just see mote numbers anymore and have an absurdly easy invasion. And that melting the primeval isn't as boring and straight forward as it was before. But I agree that invader kills return too much health.

                      • I like the idea they had for one of the gambit labs, about the invader just being a mote thief instead of a overpowered killer. I like the changes, but when those damn invaders come with their homing missiles the game mode gets REALLY depressing. I know it wont work like this, but I think it would be fun that when the player invades, it just disables all their weapons and they get a speed buff and just start running around robbing the enemy team, while the whole enemy team is just trying to hunt them down. I feel like thats the drifters whole personality anyway so it would make sense.

                        • It’s just more apparent because of the heavy ammo spawns. It’s almost exclusively used for Gjally ammo for an invader to invade and randomly shoot at the general area of enemies to get kills. Tbh I don’t really mind the changes. It feels faster paced now and with the right void builds you can clear fast. Freelance is a huge help.

                        • Haven't played Gambit in like a year until yesterday and Gjally completely ruined this mode. Gambit is definitely the worst it has ever been. I don't wanna hear "get gud" I was a top 7 or 8 Gambit player across all platforms. According to Destiny tracker. 😱
