How can I get better at sniping (Console player)?

I got nothing but respect for those of you who are good at sniping, because trying to learn how to snipe has been a…humbling experience to say the least. I used to love sniping back in D1. I’d basically never use any other special weapon, especially after I got Stillpiercer. However ever since D2 launched I could never seem to snipe all that well. I wasn’t that good in D1 either, but right now I’m so bad you’d think I never held a controller before. I went from loving sniping to now being frustrated as hell anytime I try. I have pretty good rolls for snipers that people tell me are meta, and I put on the right mods. I even tried lowering my sensitivity down from 12 to 8, and lowered my ADS sensitivity, but nothing seems to be improving. Most of the time I’m just tempted to go back to using a slug shotgun which has been my go to for most of D2. How do you sniper player do so well with them? Any idea for how I can improve with them?

  • Many ways to get better in sniping, my advice. DO NOT HARDSCOPE Put it in caps because no good sniper player hardscopes every game. Its a big no no. But let's get to the finer details of how to snipe affectively. First sniper mains have so many rules they follow but the biggest one is, only ADS for 2/4 seconds. This gives the sniper player his most important tool, the radar. It also allows us not to get ran up from behind with are pants down are legs. 60/40 screen ratio, if you are using cover (should really be using cover all the time anyways). You should have 40% of your screen showing cover and 60% showing an open lane. This gives you the ability to flip into cover if your getting flinched and shot at. Do not stay in one lane, this limits you and stops you from making any team plays or even get any kills. It also makes it predictable if your only ever in one lane. So what sniper mains usually do to avoid staying in one lane, they use the 2 second rule and constantly move around the map and changing positions. Learn head centering, so if you are prescoping a lane you know an enemy is coming through, you always want your reticle at head level. Note: head level doesn't always mean the same reticle positioning. For example if you know a player loves to slide you need to have your reticle a little lower to allow yourself to hit his head. Don't be a show off!!! When I say this don't try to always do trick shots or rush in fights trying to use your sniper as a shotgun. This will usually lead to a death. Practice in pve. Because us console players don't have the sweet programs for practicing are aim what we do instead is practice in pve, or gambit or even just on random planets. Take at least 30 mins a day to practice getting only headshot kills in pve activities or open areas.
