Solved: Issue I've never seen anyone else report. GPU low fan speed?

Update: Turns out MSI Center software was tied to this problem. Removed it and the problem went away. Read below for context. Thanks to mojojojo9 for pointing out this solution ^_^ So this is an odd one. Hoping someone, or if I'm lucky, even Bungie will shine a light on this for me. I have an MSI Gaming Trio X AMD RX 6800XT GPU. Outstanding card. Stellar performance, runs cool... Except in Destiny 2. Now because I keep system monitors open at all times on my other screens, I noticed the issue right away. Destiny 2...does not use any of the fan speed curves. It does not use the default ones, it does not use custom ones I set with AMD Radeon software. It just completely ignores fan settings and seems to apply its own. Because of this, the fan speed never goes above ~1350rpm, no matter how hot the card gets. At 4K, the card will hit 100c during combat...and the fans still do not spin faster. The odd thing is, my custom fan curve -will- apply when I launch the game, and through the starting menus, but as soon as I get to my ship in orbit...they plummet back down to those idling speeds. I've also tried using Afterburner to set the fan speeds. Same thing, Destiny ignores them. To be clear, absolutely no other game I play does this, they all respect either the default global fan curve, or the custom fan curve I've set for the game specifically. I play cyberpunk 2077 on highest settings, and the card will not crest 70c...because the fans are speeding up to compensate for the temps, as they should. I've looked all over the web and never seen anyone else report this issue, am I alone here? (Yes I've tried different clean installs of drivers, yes I've reinstalled Destiny, no dice)

  • As far as I know, NO game takes direct control of fans and power consumption, it all goes through your drivers and settings thereof, or third party applications demanded for the task.
