Armor Synthesis is a scam.

Overhaul armor synthesis. This disgusting method of making transmog more complicated than it has to be. I love this game. I love playing. I love the lore and the community. I have just about HAD IT with these practices. I take specific umbrage with the fact that we have to obtain materials to even take down the bounties. And with the fact that the amount of sets are capped at ten a season. I'm beyond disgusted. And frustrated to the point of giving up on this game. Because you guys see fit to gouge the community with ridiculous grinds. And scams to grub every last red cent from those whoop spend willy nilly.

  • I paid for templates and I’m not ashamed. I never purchase anything with real money in this game, but after reading about how complicated and grindy the process was I chose to save my self the time, spend about $20 and skip it all. Honestly, there’s not even that many pieces I’d care to turn into ornaments 🤷🏻‍♂️ aside from any potentially nice looking new armour coming in the future I’d say I may be interested in synthesizing about five or six more pieces and I’m good.

  • The transmog system works well, the fact that bothers me is that it doesn't give you anything you didn't allready have. We HAD the oportunity to look like we raided deepstone crypt, we could just equip the armor. The fact that we can't put universal ornaments on exotic is the real issue here. They expect us to pay HUGE amounts of cast for these cosmetics, and we still cant actually change the apperance of the ONE thing that was holding us back and making people want transmog in the first place. even chinese mobile games does this better... mobile games for gods sake.

  • As a casual player i second this statement. I read somewhere it takes 2 days or more for all bounties, I maybe play 5 to 6 hours destiny a week. I feel like bungie isn’t really making things better for the community, bright dust prices, sunset, no pvp maps, vault doesn’t give pinnacle, nerf stasis then bring a new overpowered feature. I haven’t checked out the new 6 man activity, I really liked menagerie so maybe I will like this as well, let’s see

    • To the few people that are defending this predatory system, let me break it down in a way that's easy to understand why this is a badly implemented transmog system designed intentionally to exploit players into giving into Eververse and it can be considered a scam... The thing some of you fail to realize is that most players, specifically long-time players and anyone pre-Shadowkeep, have already paid for everything we we want to transmog once already. All of those armor sets in our collections that can be transmog'ed? Almost all of them come from the base game and expansions we paid for. Despite the illusion of F2P, the game really isn't 'free' for dedicated players, since 'F2P' only came about recently and even after it started, you still have to buy expansions and seasons to get the real experience and content from the game. Those armors are part of those expansions, so we've already paid for those armors. With this transmog system, we're basically being told is to fork over more money to have access to them..(Even more so since Sunsetting killed being able to use older armors at all outside of Oramanents...). It's double dipping, and even worse, it's doing it to the very players that have kept this game afloat when it could have failed during it's shaky early days. And don't use the excuse that we can get them for 'free', because the way they've implemented it is designed so transparently to frustrate and annoy people into giving in to Eververse, since none of those restrictions apply to buying synth material on it... Naturally. Artificial caps that limit how much you can get? A time-gate on getting the material needed (An absurd 1 strand every 2 minutes, when you need 150 JUST to get the bounty... that requires even more grinding?). How does any of that seem remotely reasonable to ANYONE? It's clearly not designed with practicality in mind, since any sane person can see that's not practical or reasonable. However, when Eververse is being pushed front and foremost as the option that lets you sidestep all of that by getting instant access to transmog... then the whole reason why this mess of a system exists becomes crystal clear. I get some people may not really care about transmog and that's fine. However, even then you can't tell me with a straight face that these intentional roadblocks, designed strictly to steer you to Eververse, are remotely reasonable, especially given the investment many players have already put in with buying numerous expansions and season after season. If you truly think that, then clearly Bungie can do no wrong in your eyes and there's little they could do that you'd consider to be exploitative and predatory. Players like myself have put tons of time into this game, as well as money in the form of expansions, seasons and even Eververse (Which in and of itself isn't the problem for the record, rather how it's being used with something like this). Most players actively want to support this game, but when Bungie pulls stuff like this that really feels like they're actively preying on a community that has actively supported their game for all these years, it makes it hard to want to continue doing so. This was such a simple thing that could have been an easy win for them, but they turned it into a mess that feels designed from the start as a way to exploit longtime players. And their lack of having even addressed this yet, despite the massive uproar and weeks having passed since the TWAB that outlined everything, additionally comes off as indifferent of the community's grievances with the implementation. I could go on and on, but it really should be made pretty clear why this is a problem and why it currently can be perceived as a scam to many. This isn't just players being whiny about nothing, this is a legitimate source of contention and it needs to be addressed/corrected. Even if it is/when it's 'corrected' (After Bungie has milked it's fill from the initial release and whales, I'm sure) , it shouldn't be something Bungie should be praised for 'changing', since it was an unnecessary problem they themselves created in the first place.

    • They really played themself for introducing this during one of the best armor seasons since I’ve played. Subjective? Yes, but I see many people in open world/activities, etc with the new sets. The only way I’d do transmog is if I have a 100+ armor roll that is necessary for my load out but the look of it just doesn’t fit.

    • why do people feel the need to exaggerate things they dont like? scam? that implies that your not getting what you payed for, and since its in reference to armor transmog, that is a flat-out lie. in terms of what you can buy, its more options for universal ornaments. what do you get? more options for universal ornaments. what your REALLY complaining about is the grind for unlocking more through in-game progression, as opposed to simply paying for them. you dont have to buy anything to get more options! you get 2 full sets for free per class, and then you can unlock more by essentially just playing the game. dont like it? then dont buy it! but when you complain about it, please dont lie.

      • My two cents.... It should have been the added feature we all asked for as an additional aspect of the game to flesh out your uniqueness as a guardian. NOT grinding materials and bounties to the extent of acting like "game filler". Don't get me wrong, I expect to go obtain some kind of materials to do the work, but not slog through hours of bounties and activities beyond what we feel is acceptable to do so. The shader system, dead on. Apply to all, and having them unlocked when received, great. Few glimmer to apply, fine. But creating ornaments should be an added feature to flesh out your uniqueness not be a substitute for activities and story/ world QOL issues.

      • I understand that people are frustrated that there's a grind and a seasonal cap involved with the armor synthesis process, I think that's reasonable frustration that could/should result in some tuning of the process on Bungie's end. But honestly, I can't grasp the reasoning behind the fury and vitriol I'm reading about the armor synthesis process. What did people really expect was going to happen? People are losing sight of the fact that Bungie, like all game developers, is a business designed to make a profit. They're not a philanthropic organization working towards gaming nirvana for all, they're a profit-motivated corporation. That's an inescapable fact about the gaming industry in general. A basic understanding of economic principles like supply and demand should have made it obvious how this system was going to be designed. We were told at the beginning that armor synthesis was going to have a paid option as well as ways to earn synthesis in game. The very moment I read that, it was clear that this was the type of system that we'd see. It incentives consumers who are willing to pay instead of dealing with the grind. It's not unfair, it's not a scam, it's basic economics. If you want to be frustrated, fine. If you want to come to these forums and whine about it to your heart's content, also fine, that's your right. But stop acting like a crime was committed or you've somehow been cheated, because that's not what happened here.

          • Some people on Reddit have done the math, it's literally impossible to grind out the materials to reach the cap unless you're in the top 3% for play time. It takes literally 6 DAYS AND 16 HOURS OF IN GAME PLAY TIME to grind out the materials to reach the cap! That's IN GAME hours! The cap isn't even the real issue, they made the grind literally impossible for the average player.

          • Anyone can see that transmog is designed with profit in mind. With that out of the way, how many armor pieces do you guys need to transmog? I'm not even going to be using the 11/character I got from that short quest.

            • Scam is probably a bad word to use here but it is a shameless money grab. It’s a bad system I personally won’t waste any time on it or money. I’ve bought exotic ornaments expansions base game etc but this will never see any money from me it’s to pointless to waste money on something that seems to give little return in game. Honestly if PVP doesn’t get some major overhaul I won’t be spending anymore money on the game period. Luckily I won’t have to pay for seasons because of the expansion I bought but I’ll be damned if I give them money on ornaments emotes and finishers. I don’t really see a return on investment spending money on ever verse outside of ever verse getting bigger.

Transmog is just a way to incentivize players to buy the materials from Eververse. As Houndish says, it will take 4-5 hours of play time just to earn enough materials to buy a SINGLE bounty from Ada and then you have to complete whatever random bounty you get (which could still take too long).
