It's been 6 years of legendary triumph and god slaying, yet we're still called "Guardian"
Being called Guardian, is the equivalent of being called your profession by your boss. Nobody wants to hear "hey janitor? Go clean that up, thanks"
Now I know that the player character is purposefully vague all so that the many different players may build up their guardian how they see them
As a result, we can't really give our Guardian a definitive name due to the fact that the players already have their own imaginary name for their Guardian's
despite the fact the marketing material heavily implies the Guardian is canonically a hunter
So instead, just call "the Guardian" young wolf/Wolf from now on. It's cool, makes you feel important, keeps continuity from rise of iron, and ads just a little more character to the Guardian as a whole
What do you all think?

1 ReplyMarketing material is hunter based because the majority of the player base plays hunters. Did they make hunters the best class because the majority plays them, or do the majority play them because they’re the best class. Chicken and egg situation if you ask me.
-
2 RepliesOk I see where your going with this, but I started a new character. So I went through the whole tutorial. It would just be weird calling a new light “God slayer”. Or “wolf” when I’ve never done either of those things.
-
1 ReplyI actually have kind of noticed they lean towards Hunter for lots of the mainstream marketing. Kind of makes sense given the types of adventures we go through...not that it means anything though
-
11 RepliesCompletely disagree. Guardian is a token term for defender of humanity. Young Wolf is a token term for Iron Lords only. All people are guardians (few exceptions). Not everyone deserves to be called Wolf.
-
2 RepliesCall me , Daddy
-
Honestly, not only Young Wolf. There are a couple other names that would probably work, IMO. Kingslayer (for TTK vets) Rivensbane (for people who completed Last Wish) Timekeeper (perhaps for people who completed Vault of Glass/Curse of Osiris?)
-
I think Savior would make the most sense, considering how much our Guardian has done to project the city. If my memory serves me well, Variks calls the player “Savior” in the first mission of Beyond Light. And imagine how cool it would be if in Witch Queen when we finally confront Savathun in the flesh, she says to us, “So.... we finally meet. The one they call Savior.”
-
Can I just be called Jaime Lanister because I keep on kingslaying.
-
7 RepliesEdited by Accola: 2/25/2021 12:05:13 AMI don't really see how this would be better. "Young wolf" highlights a single one of our achievements, "Guardian" encompasses all of them. Also there is no canon guardian, "The Guardian" is your guardian, the player.
-
2 RepliesWhat marketing suggest Hunter being the canon class for the PC?
-
Don’t think ‘Young Wolf’ is the right shout but being called ‘Guardian’ is starting to feel unbelievable and a bit insulting. Crow has a name already and we are still essentially nameless, as is our ghost. Considering that some of us have accomplished the most incredible feats of any guardians, the fact that we are essentially still treated as an entry level lackey feels pretty jarring at times. I’d like to see them introduce more of a deal for titles, I currently don’t have a single one despite having done everything in the game because I don’t feel the need to kill 8000 screebs with a sidearm for an arbitrary thing like a title but if it was actually something that NPCs called me, I’d be much more inclined to chase them.
-
Nah. Young Wolf sounds like a noob. Guardian sounds distinguished.
-
3 RepliesThat doesn’t work for anyone. Those that didn’t play RoI are not wolves and those that did are now Lords. The end of RoI was the “ceremony” where you became an Iron Lord.
-
Edited by Corrick II: 2/25/2021 5:56:57 AMGuardian sounds way less cringey than “young wolf”. I cringed then. I cringe now. Ew. If they added an option to call us by our selected title, that would be cool. I wouldn’t mind being called Wayfarer. I worked for that shit.

2 Repliesthis is one of the things i like about MHW. i get a shot of dopamine every time an NPC calls me “my Sapphire Star”
-
I think they should refer to us as titles we've earned through the story yet Bungie is too busy copy and pasting assets instead of providing almost any fan service
-
Agreed

At this point we have collected enough monacres/titles to put Daenarys Targaryen to shame. Why not use them all as appropriate in different situations? Maybe at first when we meet an NPC they call us 'guardian' because they dont really know us yet. Then later, something else. Saladin and shaxx may use 'young wolf'; Eris could call us 'hive bane'; when Ikora wants to send us out to kill the next hive deity she could refer to us as the 'godslayer' etc... Maybe as we earn literal titles in the game NPC's could use those from time to time!
-
I prefer Hive's bane myself. Would be pretty cool if NPC's referred to you as your equipped title though.
-
It’d be nice to at the very least let us pick a pre-made callsign of sorts for our Guardians to go by instead of simply “Guardian” (unless that’s what you want). Maybe even have characters refer to you by an equipped Title (or something relating to the Title).
-
Our Guardian should have just been named Legend or Brave from the beginning. Become Legend. Be Brave...

9 RepliesEdited by ZoniCat: 2/24/2021 8:20:57 PMI hate the name young wolf. It makes sense when Saladin calls us that, but I would hate for the rest of the vendors to call us "the young wolf". Also I call bullshit on "canonically a hunter". There is no Canon player guardian. Bungie makes sure to represent all classes more or less equally in marketing. Then there's the whole theory about multiple timelines and each player's guardian are all simultaneously "the guardian" in canon
-
Okay, puppy it is.
-
Hunters hunters hunters!
-
1 ReplyThats why I loved Shaxx in D1, always calling you Hive Bane, and God Slayer
-
3 RepliesBut I'm old! I don't wanna be called "Young Wolf"! Just "Wolf" might be acceptable or "Immortal Wolf" or "Undying Wolf" maybe IDK??
