Anyone ever used the Kinect?

There were some games that got killed by Kinect and/or the other way around.

  • I did. It's basically an early---and bad---attempt at VR.

  • No. I flat out refused to connect mine to my Xbox One ( this was back in the days where the Kinect was included with every single Xbox One ). I hate ‘gimmicky’ control schemes. I hated the Wii-mote. I hated using a touchscreen on the DS/3DS/Phone to play games. And I hate mouse and keyboard. For me, it’s a game pad, or nothing.

Kinect was weird, man. IMO the funny thing with the XB1 Kinect disaster was how close MS was to getting it right, and actually fulfilling their goal of making Xbox the tech hub for the home: people really did want an always-on sensor in their house, but they wanted it to be hearing them, not watching them.

  • I only ever used mine to record things in game. I keep the visual sensor blocked off. I don't like the idea of anything watching me.

  • What killed Kinect was overselling as usual from people like Peter -blam!-ing Molyneux, banging on about 3D virtual Minecraft and Milo the virtual ‘friend’ who would do your homework for you. Along with the ‘wonders’ of being able to see the bottom of your avatar’s shoes, or navigate the dashboard by waving your hands around. Because with that came the underdelivering of games like Kinect Star Wars and the terrible bolt-on motion mechanics that were on every game under the sun.

    • Dance Central was the only game that worked properly with the Kinect. I had some good laughs with friends and family playing that game. Unfortunately this abomination was the beginning of the end for Xbox and the name still hasn't recovered.
