Many people were affected in horrible ways by events such as the Red War. Zavala, the one who took command and quite possibly endured the worst of it all, is still haunted by the atrocities of the war, the near loss of the Traveler and city and the many deaths that occurred at the hands of the Red Legion. As well as the deaths of those from Six Fronts and most importantly Twilight Gap and the Great Disaster. There’s a piece of lore where he states how he can still feel the boot of the legionary on his neck. He bares those deaths with great weight and perhaps they even haunt him as such. With Cayde’s recent passing and soon to be the (possible) death of Deputy Commander Sloane one night imagine that the Festival of the Lost, an event to remember the dead, could in fact be quite a painful one for him. A reminder of not just failure, but of all those he solely believed he could prevent from dying. Or it’s just a cool shot from the trailer.

7 RepliesSavathune is preventing Zavala from hearing the Traveler and suppressing it's messages according to the travelers chosen lore tab So perhaps this is a representation of that? The traveler in chains as Zavala is blissfully unaware as he slowly begins to turn his back on it
