This whole thing reminds me of how Black Armory's launch went down. Player expectations weren't kept in check because Bungie didn't talk about it enough. Seriously, did Bungie tell us ANYTHING about the Final Offensive, besides the release date? No. Now, here's the thing. Yes, it's Bungie's fault for not telling us anything about the Final Offensive. On the other hand, you say you wanted the Imago Loop to drop, that puts up false expectations. People see stuff like that and blindly follow it and expect it to happen.

You are correct and that's been a massive issue with this community for years. They do a poor job communicating and fans create expectations in their minds that were never said. Literally hopes and dreams. Content comes out and 3,2,1...go it starts all over again. They have always been super careful on what they say or put out which i really understand because the fans are ravenous and will run with just about anything and be like OMG they're doing this when they never said anything close to that.
