Meanwhile.... Kairos slows his ship out of near-lightspeed and calms his adrenaline. "Holy Light! Penny, did you see that!? We're amazing! Ahhaa!" He's jumping around like a child. Penny chuckles at him. "Wow, look at the stars out here!" He points forward to a cluster of lights. Penny narrows her sight on the lights. "Um, Kai? Those aren't stars.." Kairos squints. He can barely make out what appears to be the flairs of other ships flying right towards him. "Penny!?" He begins to panic. He runs to the cockpit and whips the ship around. A split second before hitting the acceleration, a ship zooms past at high speed, followed by 3 more. "Penny! Punch it!!" Penny transmats out and the ship bolts off. Two more ships begin to tail them. "Penny, I think we're going to get that speed test after all! They just keep--" A ship slams into the side of him, shifting everything inside, causing the lights to flicker and the engine to sputter. The pilot of the other ship looks over. An exo expressing the most aggressive gesture a robotic face could make. He moves away and takes off past him. "Penny, that guy looked pissed!" Kairos tries to wrap his head around who these people could be. "Um, Kai? I believe they are participating in an illegal outer rim space race!" Penny sounds worried. Kairos ponders for a second. "That... That's sounds awesome!" He punches the ship into high speed and easily catches up to the competition. Just before catching up, the alarm system begins to sound. "Uhh.. what's going on?" "There are obstacles ahead, perhaps asteroids. Also, our engine is overheating and the right tank is leaking from the collision." Penny recites the problems like a genuine computer. Calmly and without emotion. Kairos doesn't hesitate, "Then we'll just have to finish this quickly!" He shouts as he continues forward at full speed. He easily out maneuvers the other racers through the asteroid field with only a few tiny rocks hitting the ship. He watches as one of the competitors miscalculates a turn and crashes directly into a huge rock, sending debris and shards of broken ship everywhere. The explosion shakes Kairos' tiny pod, but doesn't faze him. They escape the field and catch up to the lead racer. "It's the exo from before!" Kairos points. "Penny, take the wheel!" Kairos runs to the back of the ship and lifts a cloth off an electrical box. Several wires are frantically tied end to end with only two connectors holding them together. He grabs each end of the connectors and slams them together. The ship groans and slows. "What!?.. No no no! Come on! It was supposed to-" The ship rockets itself into impossible speeds, sending Kairos slamming into the rear window of the cabin pod. The ship easily passes the lead ship and blows past the finish line without slowing down. Kairos yells over the screaming engine, "Woohoooo!!!" The ship continues forward far past the line away from the other racers who all stopped after crossing. "Uh.. Penny!? Cut the engines!!" He can barely move with the amount of force being pressed against him. "Penny!??" The ship creaks and begins to smoke as the right engine completely gives out. The speed dramatically decreases, but is still bellowing forward. It's enough to drop Kairos off the wall. As soon as he stands he disconnects the wires and the ship powers down, sending Kairos flying toward the cabin, slamming him into the console. Penny reappears from thin air. "The ship has sustained heavy damage from overpowering the engines. I've lost most of the control of our main steering. The best I can do now is coast and hopw the ship doesn't split in two!" "Hey! Relax! We won! Haha, now let's go find Icarus. I'm sure he's ready for us by now." Kairos stands and stretches. As he takes a seat in the drive chair. "Did you just hear me? We have no steering!" Penny flickers with frustration. Kairos chuckles, "Penny, Penny! Track Icarus' ship, plug in the coordinates, and let it drift! Easy as that." He reclines and shuts his eyes with a smile. Penny narrows her glance. "Ugh.." She inputs the coordinates and the ship slowly stumbles it's way to Nessus.
