Shane the one part i do not get in this conversion is your denial you were cheating. I think honesty on your part is the best policy. I honestly believe that cheats never prosper and normally i go against bungie on everything they do, but alas mate if the cap fits wear it. I have always been a man to hold my hands up when caught and say, Yep I did that. If you are caught then the cat is out of the bag as they say. So maybe you should start with pleading your innocent, but i think you want to know in case it is for something you have not done rather than admitting what you have done. This is just my observation mate and i truly hope you get back on the game.

Bans are manually placed on accounts following account investigation that turns up behaviour that justifies the action being taken. These investigations can be started by multiple reports of cheating or otherwise disallowed behaviour over a long time period. Alternatively, bans may be placed after the Destiny 2 app on PC detects potential cheat software and flags it, sending data to Bungie - again requiring manual confirmation for a ban to be placed. The only other way to obtain a ban is to continue to play match made PVP and gambit, following both a 2 week and 2 month restriction from those activities. In all seriousness, and with respect, Bungie has found reasonable evidence that you have broken the Destiny code of conduct in some way and been appropriately punished for it. There is no way to appeal a ban or have it overturned. Bungie does not discuss or revoke restrictions or bans.
