Community is split over Zero Hour mission and it's pretty stupid

I don't understand the mindset of people that want exotic or Pinnacle weapons handed to them in this game. I do understand there is a skill gap, but there is plenty of room for error in this mission. It has been solo'd. Myself and many others have two manned it, especially on regular just to get the weapon, it should not be an issue. A lot of arguments on here is that the timer is "lazy" and yeah that's kind of true. But it adds SOME aspect of difficulty, same as a modifier for a mission would and requires players to master the jumping/combat sections efficiently enough to win and get the reward. It's an enjoyable feeling and to me is what makes the game worth playing, same as learning a raid and getting some sweet drops. When I did the heroic version and finished the void puzzle and watched the ship schematic pop and got the extra catalyst progression it felt good, and was a fun thing for me and my clan to do. It's an endgame activity at light level 690+. Nobody deserves weapons in this game for doing nothing. That's exactly why Bungie changed clam engrams so you no longer get raid gear from turning in a clan engram, you're getting endgame loot from somebody else completing the raid. Doesn't make any sense. I see so many posts on here saying remove the timer completely, double the timer, allow getting time back, etc and honestly it's really sad. There have always been quest exotics and more recently Pinnacle weapons that require some effort to get. i.e. Recluse/Luna's/Not forgotten/Thorn/Whisper that require some grinding and time before you get the reward. Just like everything else, if you don't want to work for it, you're welcome to either pay someone to do it for you (which is also pretty disgraceful for a video game) or you just can't have it. It doesn't mean you can come to the forums to whine until you get your way. For anyone that's looking for some tips on the mission, I'd be happy to share my setup. I go in on a Hunter and run Arcstrider with Raiden Flux, and switch to Stompees before the jumping section. Arbalest is a BEAST in there. One shots the shanks, and does massive crit damage to the boss especially if you have a lot of ammo. I run armor with special ammo finder, linear fusion rifle scavenger, and reserves. I use the recluse as a secondary, but anything with kill clip or rampage is effective for the shanks. For the heavy slot I use the curated Bad Omens, I save it for the walkers mostly or use it for clusters of enemies I happen to see. I usually run it with a friend who runs a different secondary element and Nova bomb warlock, arbalest, etc. For anyone struggling, you can do it! It took me like 4 runs just to learn the jumping section well enough but once you can get to the boss with 5-6 minutes you should be good to go.

Nobody is asking for it to be handed to them. They dislike the timer, because it ruins the experience. The timer is artificial difficulty. There are plenty of ways to make a mission challenging without adding a timer.

  • I've gone into this solo and made it a little ways into the jumping puzzle. I can see how this can easily be accomplished with a full fireteam. Arabalest IS a beast, like op said.

Reading through the replies, of course 80% of the comments are “Didn’t read it BUT you’re wrong.” Really sums up how people are on these forums.

  • Your post starts off with a major straw man fallacy, so I didn’t bother to read the rest. No one is asking to be given anything. They are asking for barriers to participating to be removed, and greater creativity from Bungie as to how to make content challenging. More than just making enemies super-tanky and slapping a timer on it. Especially since almost everything is being timed now.

    • I didn't read your story, but the community is not split. If every single person on this forum said the quest is hard and don't like the timer, it would make up at best 3% of the community. These forums are not the community. Most of the people on the forums complaining also complain about pvp being in exotic quests, want everything nerfed. Most of the people complaining are not great players. You don't see for the most part people who got the outbreak complaining it was hard.. It is the people who don't have outbreak who think that they should automatically get it because they payed for the game.

      • Do you know how many people would be complaining if Bungie had made the Perfected as hard to get as the Prime? Some people seriously dont know about that D1 Outbreak Prime.

        • Yeah. 1 half absolutely loves the mission, because it's -blam!-ing awesome. The other half refuses to git gud.

Different people have different skills, though. Different aptitudes, but only one method of play is really rewarded which leaves the game feeling stale or frustrating with no happy medium. One of my biggest beefs with Destiny 2 is that every challenge there is always has the same general mechanics; it's always frantic 'rush rush rush, go go go' with or without an apparent timer ticking down in your face. I'm not gonna say others are wrong for liking that, but I myself don't see any reward in that anymore than I see reward for playing in traffic. I won't say they don't exist, but things that challenge the mind and patience are rare. The game rewards reflexes and a short attention span as opposed to patience and strategy 9 times out of 10. I came here to punch aliens in the face, get loot, and explore. Didn't really think I'd be running relay races as often as I am(that's why I chose a Titan, because I thought they'd be less mobile and more about a sort of tankier gameplay. Boy was I wrong, but that's for another topic.) I'm clearly not the target audience for things like this. Perhaps not even the target audience for the game as a whole. I'll come back to the challenge and try later, but only when I can make it as easy as possible on myself by overgearing it.

          • Raids typically have timers too. How come no one complains about those (i am pretty sure i havent seen that yet)? I agree. I dont have time to figure out the maze myself. I just watched the Outbreak maze walk thru 2 times and then decided to start practicing the path. Then beat it a few tries later. It might have taken me a few hours. I like the learning of the content, then mastering it and then beating it. To me, it seems like everyone that complains about it being too hard or remove the time just wants a participation trophy. I do plan on helping others get their Outbreaks. I enjoy helping others and replaying the content.

My LFG experience kept yielding 660s and even 640s and it was clear I was never gonna find 2 700s so I cheesed it. Or the time I would find 700s they didn’t wanna use a mic because god -blam!-ing forbid people pay $15 to get a -blam!-ing headset or use their -blam!-ing iPhone headphones for some reason. Then they wonder why we couldn’t clear it. Because dumbasses, we weren’t COMMUNICATING! So yeah -blam!- that timer. I was never able to get a proper team so I had to do what I had to do. Not gonna put in maximum effort when no one in my region wants to put in maximum effort themselves.... What really blows my mind is why the -blam!- couldn’t I find 2 690+s with a mic? Did NO ONE play Revelry at all this past month?

              • That’s too long so I didn’t read past the beginning. I will say that your premise is flawed from the jump. If you look at what players are actually saying, and not what you think they are saying (or want them to be saying so your strawman burns), you will see players who don’t like the mission because of the timer/the maze/the jumping puzzles aren’t asking for the gun to be handed to them. So you’re starting out wrong. That and it’s not stupid for players to have an opinion and share it on the forums for discussing the game.

Here is how destiny players work: in the moment, they get frustrated and just want the thing after failing a couple of times or hitting a quest step they don't like, or any other number of reasons, not least of which is usually FOMO because they see other people with the thing before them. This leads them to believe the thing should be easier to obtain so they can hurry up and get it, forgetting the joy of accomplishment and achievement. When said thing is made easier and they get it, they transition to feeling like there was no satisfaction of challenge and again, since the thing is completed, nothing to do any more. Most "feedback" in this community is based off of emotional reaction rather than logical thinking. So we get this back and forth, "the grass is always greener" mentality and constant complaints about such . People are used to immediately reacting and immediately being satisfied in today's society and it leads to indecision and regret. It's how it will be for the forseeable future. So when anything releases in this game, there WILL be complaints until it's changed, then complaints to change it back because they realized it was better the first way...All because of FOMO and immediate emotional reaction just after failing whatever attempt they are doing for the first time.
