You can clearly tell there are two engines and two dev teams.(actually 4 teams, but I’ll return to this point) Engine B had team B and we got d2 due to this. D2 and bungie was in such a bad state, that activision had to move two teams to help bungie create and make content. Activision and bungie split... Which brings up the next interesting question. Activision loves money. Why did they split now? I mean, if bungie had a strong fall dlc planned.. why would the split happen before this? Couple this with the fact that activision had to open up two teams to help bungie make content for warmind, forsaken, and the annual pass... this tells me to be very worried about the state of this game. Is all lost? No, but I think we should all step back and realize that this game may be dead and bungie needs some time to piece together content from their creative roots.. and this takes a lot of time to do. At this point, let it end. My money is betting on the fact that bungie wanted to own the ip outright.. in order to sell the ip to activision, make lots of money and move on while letting activision take it over... but fell flat too soon and tanked the value of the game.

  • I read somewhere the reason for making the adjustment to the engine was because alot of the coders and programers left destiny 1 and most of those that remained didn't know as much about the tiger engine.

  • Supposedly Activision didn't drop Bungie, Bungie went to Activision and set up a deal to buy the Destiny property from Activision after there little spat where Bungie said they were happy with Forsaken, and Activision wasn't cause it didn't bring as many people back as Activision expected it to. I read that somewhere, don't remember where or how much truth there really is to it, but supposedly that's how it went down.

  • Ummm...the earnings call basically said that Bungie bought out their IP contract early. And because Activision wouldn't see much profit from an IP they didn't own, and the microtransaction market is down across the board for games, they couldn't see how they were going to make more money out of D2 / Bungie. So the companies agreed that splitting was best. No one dropped anyone, both companies made business decisions. This past January, Bungie assumed total control of its series, ending its partnership with Activision Blizzard earlier than initially agreed upon. “We’re confident this was the right decision for both parties,” Kotick said. “For us, at least, it was rooted in our strategies overall.   • Yeah I'm seeing that as I read more into it. I had seen several videos that had skewed things towards Activision dropping Bungie, but it definitely seems like it was mutual.

    Literally every company doesn’t tell the truth. Both forsaken and BO4 sold better than non-activison people thought, and both were claimed by activison to have undersold.

  • They didn't meet predicted sales, the issue was the predictions were ludicrous. So not a lie, just greed. Like I said its fraud to lie in an earnings call.

  • So.... No Its the same engine just with some minor tweaks. And for the most part, the same people worked on both games. You kinda rambled on in that second half there. Saying "take a step back" while narrowing the your view of the possibilities seemed a little conflicting as well

  • No, it is not the same engine. A lot of similarities, but it was being designed during destiny. My rambling on is part of the point... But I guess I am also not trying to convince you of anything. Just stating it as it is.

  • Destiny 2 won't recover. We have what we have. All we can hope is they do a better job with Destiny 3. I would be shocked if there is a major expansion for September. Most people would bet that is why Activision cut early. Annual passes don't make the kind of money they are looking for and most people don't even like the one we just got. Without the help of the two studios that won't be there anymore because of the split, there is no way Bungie has enough resources to pump out an expansion now. I hate to see what the next annual pass we are getting will add coming only from Bungie and with shorter planning possibly. I doubt Bungie thought they would be splitting from Activision in the middle of Destiny 2 so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more of a scramble going on over there than we know of.

    Fact is Bungie cant manage 3 anual pass DLC's by themselves....Bungie made black armory and jokers wild... The 3rd DLC is being made by vicarious visions (warmind creators) the joke is out of the 3 DLC's I will bet money that the one vicarious visions is working on will be the best and vastly superior and people will hold this up as to why buying the next anual pass is worth it.... they will ignore the fact that Bungie didn't make it and going forward all content will be handled by Bungie the people that made the base game/curse of osiris/dreaming city/black armory/raids basically everything Bungie has done in D2 has been bad to meh...
