It's an extremely fun and unique exotic, unfortunately its use is extremely hamstrung by the limited default ammo reserves and the Release the Wolves perk. With a magazine of 30, a total of 120 shots, and an initial 5 round burst, that is then increased to a 10 round burst after a kill. Means that that you can exhaust all the ammo in roughly 12 or so shots, taking into account that you get 4 shots on the starting magazine. That's an ammo count of a power weapon. You would basically need the entirety of your armor perks to be dedicated to shotgun reserves, scavenger, and special ammo finder to have any chance of sustainability for it.
I think either an increase in default ammo reserves or decreasing the burst count to 3 and then 6 after the Release the Wolves perk is activated would make the weapon a lot more viable in PvE. As it stands, it basically has the ammo reserves of a power weapon but requires the energy weapon slot for use. Which means the best use for Lord of Wolves is for mini-bosses/bosses in a single target scenario, but that is what power weapons are for, but often with the added benefit of either splash damage or much higher single-target damage.
Those are just my thoughts on the exotic, would love to hear other's feedback as well.

1 ReplyIn other news....I did the catalyst for Huckleberry and Risk Runner this weekend. Good Lord man, what this PvE community doesn't know/speak of!!!! Enemies moving against each other, never once do you have to reload or search for ammo. Now that's a proper exotic 😀
-
I agree
-
Was my 1st forsaken exotic, just shame it got dismantle straight away because it was shit
-
The only buff that would make it good imo would be to make the 10 burst only take 5 ammo.
-
Have the exotic perk not draw from ammo. Kills with the shotgun create extra long bursts but just have it take the same ammo so it becomes more about cleanup.... That or move it to the power slot and have it do like massive damage that sets targets on fire for burn damage...
-
3 RepliesThis is the only exotic I don't want to proc the exotic trait lol.
-
2 RepliesEdited by im_moto_btw: 2/3/2019 12:14:28 AMWhat if the catalyst regenerated ammo? Like invective from D1.
-
Does anyone remember the data mined original perk back in D1? It was supposed to deal a burn after each shot. Considering it was released back in HoW. I was always curious how much dot it would do... Would it do dot like the thorn did? Ticking at 7, 5 times? Likewise would be pretty cool to see
-
I just keep it in the collection, no ammo problem!
-
1 ReplyIt was my first Forsaken exotic. Toyed around with it for 20 minutes and chucked it in the vault... I guess you could say...
it was Forsaken....
Edited by Spooky_Ari: 2/3/2019 6:57:22 PMDid you know you can switch weapons to cancel out the additional shots? If you can switch weapons in the middle of a Wardcliff Coil volley and only release a couple of missiles, you can do the same with Lord of Wolves. Still it needs better ammo reserves.
-
3 RepliesIt was my second favorite weapon in D1 next to NLB. And only 1 of 2 forsaken exotics I still don't have. 😪
-
1 ReplyLord of Wolves
-
1 ReplyI still suck at using this gun any advice?
-
2 RepliesYeah it's like they forgot to change reserves on some guns. Merciless is the same it still has the reserves from when it was a power weapon. How they can't fix things like this sooner is beyond me.
-
3 RepliesActually forgot this gun was in the game, lol. Don't have it yet, that's probably why.
-
Good luck. We have been asking for an increase to Sunshot’s magazine since the game came out, and Bungie is simply rowing their sinking boat without a care.
-
1 ReplyEasy fix: When perk procs, it still only takes 5 from magazine, but fires 10 bullet bursts. But yeah, about 60-100 more rounds would still need to be added, IMO.
-
It needs to lose its stupid perk too. So much ammo goes to waste.
-
and double its range so it more like it use to be back in D1.
-
Yep, as soon as I got it and started using it I realized quickly it would be vaulted. It just ran out of ammo so fast it's completely ineffective other than casual play. It's too bad. It was one of my favorites in D1. When the heroic modifiers were special weapons, solar and the one where you did more damage in the air it melted everything and was so fun to use.
-
Yeah, deeper pockets catalyst would help a lot. Just look at Telesto vs. Merciless Telesto holds like 21ish shots I think, and merciless holds only 14. Now compare Lord of Wolves with EP shotty, which can hold 21 shots. Lord of Wolves needs more ammo and it could be really good. BTW I don't have Lord of Wolves, one of the few exotics I'm missing at this point, along with wavesplitter, trinity ghoul, Two-Tailed Fox, and the 1000 voices and anarchy.

2 RepliesYour so right, lord of wolves was my first exotic in d2; in my opinion it’s a god gun. All I have to do is kill one enemy to get the perk going, and the boss is turned to dust. I want to use it in a raid but it just has so little ammo.
-
I think it’d be better if the extra shots while the perk was active just didn’t consume extra ammo
-
Edited by Fudge Yo Couch: 2/2/2019 10:39:07 PMIt's a fun weapon to use, but the ammo reserves dry up so fast, Now if the ammo type were to be changed to primary, then we'd be in some business.

1 ReplyPerfect catalyst idea!
