There are quite a few people getting frustrated over RNG - a suggestion

Add a mulligan rule for the lagging 20% of people who don't get an RNG item that just gives them the item automatically. This factor is roughly 1.58 times the flat odds, it changes a bit as the odds become slimmer but for what tables you guys are working on it would be fine. For 1 in 10 odds, it's automatic at 16 tries. 1 in 50, it's 79. Being in the last few % of not having an item gets to be very disheartening and by the time the first 80% have the item, giving it to the last 20% isn't exactly game breaking. I think that keeps the spirit of RNG surprise and replayability going, but also keeps player's morale from just flat out tanking. We all know there's an expectation to put in so much time to "earn" something, but it can go beyond that to just not at all fun. I did everything that other guy did but he got lucky and I didn't is OK for a time, but it really gets old and eventually just feels unfair. Maybe some other fix, but something to take the tail end of the have-nots off would go a long way to make players happier about the game. We all end up with that one item we just can't seem to get eventually.

  • For me it's not just RNG but rather, RNG combined with time gating. So for example Jotunn. It's not that I mind that it's behind an RNG wall but the fact that I have a limited number of attempts and, once those attempts are depleted I'm now stuck waiting for a full WEEK before I can even TRY to get it again. That is far more frustrating to me than plain RNG. At least give me a way that I can continue to try and get the item I want.

    • Its been 4 months since Forsaken has dropped, I main a Titan and have done pretty much every single piece or powerful gear every week as well as multiple raids and 100s of hours of play and I still dont have the One-Eyed Mask, its a running joke in my clan that as soon as I get they'll nerf it.

    • I’m probably going to get sh1t for this, but this just proves to me something I already suspected, these code based systems are not random at all, then throw in the possibility of bugs. Apart from RNG affecting nearly all aspects of this game, one of my issues are duplicates, I believe this to be more of a “I can’t be bothered anymore” than actually not getting anything. You know it takes so longer for an exotic to drop and when it does and it’s a duplicate the first thought apart from utter disappointment is the thought that now I have to go all that time before I see another one, and that will probably be a duplicate as well.

    • RNG should never be a blocker for seals, either. A seal doesn’t feel “earned” to me if the only reason I don’t have it is because even after over 150 sleeper nodes (including having all 45 unique ones) I still can’t seem to get Niflheim Frost. That’s not “earning” something, that’s getting lucky enough RNG, which means I could (and have) sink countless hours into the extremely not fun farming of sleeper nodes to never even end up with the gun. That type of farm is boring and monotonous, and is applicable to any seal that requires a badge for completion.

      • Good idea but I’d also like a couple of other things; 1. Bungie to investigate its own RNG systems. I get the impression they don’t play their own game that much and haven’t been as clues up on how the system ‘feels’. Particularly, how RNG seems to have gotten dumber - stuff like not getting an exotic for ages, then getting the same one multiple times once you finally have it. This seems to have got worse following the update which was meant to fix this! 2. Option to buy cosmetic RNG items with materials. Let me get a hell yeah if you’d like to buy any of the Dreaming City cosmetics with the billion baryon boughs we’ve been sitting on.

RNG is necessary to a point, that is unavoidable. but this game has relied too much on RNG but as many stated, it's lack of options forces bungie too put so much emphasis on RNG because they failed to deliver a good amount of diversity. granted everyone usually goes for the same exact roll on something that gets deemed best over all, but by now the only real solution to easing the pain of RNG would be to give a forging system of some sort. i think having to obtain gear and perks first and having a list function to show what perks have been obtained for certain pieces is a great start to a forging/curating system. then once we obtained the perks we want we could create a blueprint or something and take it to a vendor then either wait a certain amount of time to collect the curated weapon/armor, or a high price to collect it is what this game needs at this point, that way players can discover their preferred playstyle and even play around with all the builds they want. this franchise desperately needs a system like this so they can feel rewarded for the time they put into the game, instead of being slapped in the face repeatedly by RNG AND bungie, since bungie has so clearly shown the amount of disrespect they have for their fans. TL;DR: this game needs to have a curation system available to players instead of relying solely on RNG, especially RNG that doesn't respect play time.

            • I dont get frustrated anymore. I give up. Cursebreaker is unobtainable...i gave up. After doing everything many times and never the ghost or sparrow...Im done. Bungie are morons. That said, I do go after the ones I know I can get. Thats why so many have Dredgen and many will have Blacksmith.

I remember a time when players were able to choose a reward for specific vendors or something like that. I forget what we actually had to do but it was there and it really kept the bullshit out of the equation. I went nearly 8-9 weeks of having nothing but class items drop from all my powerful and prime engrams. Literally nearly every one I turned in dropped -blam!-ing class items. That honestly killed any motivation I had to try and get into this game on top of all the idiot things Bungie has done to Destiny. Specific turn ins should allow us to choose our reward to avoid having our starfish stuffed by RNG. I’m all for anything that makes RNg not -blam!- you in the starfish.

              • IMO all Bungie has to do is use D1 loot system on how it was applied throughout the entire game and this entire game will be 10 times better, but Bungie either doesn't get that or they are just being stubborn.

                  • If you want exotics don't play the game for like a week or two then come back at reset and exotics will drop. I took a break and came back to play some iron banner after 3 games I got Trinity Ghoul then after another 5 games I got Heart of Inmost light. When you keep playing every day or just often exotics rarely drop.

                  • I think we should be able to use prime engrams to buy random rolls from our collection. When trying to raise light level you could actually get the gear that you want instead of rng giving you 5 class items in a row out of primes. If there is a weapon you like you could keep trying for a god roll. This would give players control and add meaning to the collection

RNG the incredibly cheap to design method of extending loot acquisition add in a lack of dupe protection and it becomes almost impossible to 'finish' your loot sets just straight up predatory antagonistic design, and also immoral to prey upon a huge chunk of player (and minors) who have a genetic weakness to this type of design

                      • Usually... by the time you get that item to drop, it will be useless and nobody will care that you got it.

The biggest issue with this whole drop rate problem is the longer it takes for something to drop, the higher the chances are that it will be useless by the time you get it. Take Ursa Furiosa for example. For those that didn’t get it early after Forsaken launched they never got to experience it in all its glory. Now it’s simply a vaulted exotic due to the nerf. Luckily I had the fun with this while it lasted. Shards of Galanor still haven’t dropped for me and I’m almost 100% certain that when they finally do, they will have been nerfed so hard no one will be using them anyway. Stupid system that caters for the cry baby’s of the feedback forum.

                          • This. I’ve been trying for two weeks to get a kinetic 650. So far the only thing I’ve gotten is a Dreaded venture. Ironic since for a long time I couldn’t get a sniper to drop for anything. Now I can’t get anything kinetic to drop above 646. It’s a dumb cheap way to extend game play.
