I don't think it's a secret that people enjoyed or miss strike exclusive armor found in Destiny 1, and for good reason. The thought of adorning your guardian in bad ass armor you got from taking out powerful enemies, sounds like a dream.
While weapons, sparrows, ghost shells, etc. are great, they don't offer the same personal customization and feel that stike exclusive armor once did. Cloak of Taniks, Mau'ual's Maulers, and Devouring Maw were all well known and awesome pieces of armor you could acquire from strikes in Desiny 1, and that those players probably remember today despite their absence. It made your guardian feel unique to you, and gave a reason for playing that stike over and over again.
Of course, it isn't necessary nor would it cause of the end of the world if these weren't introduced to Destiny 2. Allthough, I think I can speak for all Desiny 1 pve players in saying it would warm our hearts, and I feel confident in saying it would bring a new feeling of life to strikes in Destiny 2
