I just don't like how bad the single shots feel. I don't really care about the PvP aspect, but in pve they just feel way too slow and really bad for any kind of damage. It honestly doesn't matter that they have splash damage when most normal specials deal so much damage per shot in comparison that they can use more to kill anything else around them at a much faster rate. I really don't want to whine about it, but they honestly need to be buffed in my eyes. They just don't have any usage for me outside of messing around in crucible and I like how they look and are supposed to act, they just don't perform to any of my very low expectations. For pve, at least, they should deal higher damage, have a larger magazine size (hold 2 rounds), and hold more reserves. I want to like these grenade launchers, but they just suck so bad to me that I can't even try to enjoy them. It just feels so bland and boring, like using a fusion rifle when they aren't powerful. It's not fun using something so sluggish when so much of this game deals with how quickly and efficiently you can kill. I understand they aren't supposed to be dps weapons and more designed for ad clear, but WHY do they make weapons that consume special ammo so bad for even their only real job, like what utility do they have or are they supposed to have? I know that a while ago bungie acknowledged that they haven't been giving grenade launchers much attention, but just acknowledging there aren't enough of them doesn't fix what exactly is wrong with them at their core. They could pump out a million of these things but not one could ever be considered useful or viable without some major buffs to keep them viable. Like, why do they think nobody uses them, because they are designed so bad for the sake of balance that they've never had the chance to break in the first place. Mountain top, the pinnacle PvP weapon from comp, doesn't even do all that well in PvP because single shots are just so bad, especially with p2p servers. I've never died to the thing and as I am currently working my way towards getting it, I find myself questioning why I should even bother when I know it's more trouble than it's worth. They should change it's name from mountain top to rock bottom, because it looks like such a waste of time to get. Please bungie, buff single shot grenade launchers.
