Crag, Part 2

Part 1: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/250301970/0/0 There were the remains of a single tarp and wooden braces that had formed a temporary shelter, as well as the charred wood of a cooking fire. Several bodies littered the ground, some human, some not. Deeming the site void of life, I snuck out of the bushes at a crouch, stopping at the first alien body. It had two arms, although I could see others had four, and a helmet as well as skimpy armor and four dark eyes that glinted blue in the dimness. From the looks of things, these creatures had attacked the camp. It was safe to assume that the aliens had killed everyone and then left in whatever aircraft I had heard earlier. I turned the body over and then moved on to the next human body and to the corpse of a four-armed creature. They were all picked clean of weapons and whatever supplies their pouches had held. There was a leather vest and matching leather gauntlets on one man, which I awkwardly removed and strapped onto myself, finding that they fit me a bit loosely even at their tightest. The dead had no use for such things. Rustling alerted me to the presence of something else, and with nowhere to hide I rolled onto my back and splayed my limbs in an uneven position to appear dead. After several moments, the rustling came closer and then stopped, only to be replaced by footsteps trekking through the grass near me. I held my breath and kept my eyes closed so I wouldn’t give myself away. Whatever it was only slowed a bit as it passed by me, then moved on. Not wanting to risk being inspected more closely, I opened my eyes and rose to my feet as slowly and silently as possible. A short way in front of me, one of the creatures was walking from corpse to corpse. It had four arms and more armor than the two-armed ones, and in its hands it held a rifle of sorts. Stealthily sneaking up on it, I held my right arm back in preparation to sucker punch the thing if it turned around. Seeming to determine there was nothing interesting left here, it stopped and began to spin on its heel. I clenched my hand to form a fist, but before it closed all the way something formed within my grasp. The alien’s head came around and it’s eyes narrowed as it recognized me as an enemy, but it was too late. I lashed out to bludgeon the creature with whatever was in my hand. To my surprise, I held a knife, and the blade sunk deep into the skull of my opponent. Yanking the knife out, I hopped away as the alien’s head blew off with a puff of white gas and a pained screech. An angry growl announced the arrival of another, and I ducked just in time to dodge a slashing blade that glowed with crackling blue electricity. With a quick spin I jabbed my elbow into the attacker’s stomach, but found myself swinging an uppercut into empty air as the alien tumbled backwards to the ground. After a moment it recovered and started to push itself up off of its back, but I stepped up and kicked its head back down. It lay still. Carefully nudging it with my boot, I realized that it was dead. For some reason I was much stronger than I had expected. More rustling came and I readied my blade. Another two-armed one jumped out, only to drop limply as my knife sunk into its head. A four-armed alien came out a few meters to the side and charged at me with two electrified swords. I hopped backwards and dodged both swinging blades, but with a strong flick one of the swords came right back at me as I was settling. Unable to dodge the slash at my midsection, I blocked with a forearm. Shocked again by the lack of pain, I found that the blade was stopped a hair away from my skin by a translucent shield, and I was able to hold back the force with a single arm. I noticed that the rain still fell to my skin. Confident now, I went for a punch rather than an elbow or knee as a weaker fighter should. My knuckles smashed against the alien’s helm and launched it off its feet. It hit the ground a few feet away and didn’t stir again. I bent over to start collecting the weapons of the aliens and leave, but once more noise came from the woods. A single creature stepped out, larger than the others and with a fan-shaped helmet. Seeing me over it’s dead comrades, it roared and waved its big gun in the air with its four arms splayed in a show of intimidation. Wasting no time, I picked up one of the alien swords and hurled it like a javelin. The alien swatted it out of the air and stomped towards me. I picked up the other sword and charged, hoping to end this quickly with my speed and small size. But my swing was blocked exactly as I had done earlier, only this creature’s shield was a swirling blue. Two heavy arms swatted me back, and although it didn’t hurt much I was tossed because of my lightweight frame. Landing on top of a corpse, I rolled over and my hands fell upon the rifle of the first alien I had killed. With a quick roll I came up and pulled the trigger, unleashing a few small blue bolts upon my opponent. It made a guttural sound that resembled a laugh as my shots sparked up against its shield. Raising its own weapon, it fired a burst of flaming shrapnel at me that made me flinch when it shattered the energy shield that surrounded my body. I held my ground and kept pulling the trigger, and the creature took the bait. Its shield vanished with a pop halfway to me, but it did not speed up even as I scorched its armor. Just as it came close enough to hit me I made a couple quick hops backwards. But the alien suddenly disappeared in a wisp of blue light and reappeared right on top of me. My gun was knocked out of my hands as I was thrown across the clearing. I hit the ground tumbling, but managed to plant my feet and slide to a stop. The alien lumbered after me with another guttural cackle, and with no weapon I closed my fingers, thankfully finding that my knife appeared in my grasp again. It teleported once more, but this time I dove out of its way and threw my knife into its collar. Unfortunately, that only seemed to make it mad. Putting my fists up as it tossed its gun and came towards me with claws splayed, I judged the best way to go about disabling its arms. Before it could reach me again, however, a ring broke through the air and the alien fell with white gas spewing out of a hole in its head. It was the sound of the first gunshot I had heard earlier. • Bump! Once again, great work. I’d expect someone with the name Crag and extremely hardcore to be a titan, and in the beginning I very much thought he was one, but you subverted that and I’m glad you did.
