The Darkness, the Nine, The Possibility

<Everyone at this point in time on the forums, and even some on my friends list, know that I talk about the Darkness a LOT. Almost to the point of obsession. Like, -blam!- Toland and Osiris, it's all about THE DEEP. Anyway, a long while ago some stuff on Reddit came out about dialogue for future events, specifically the Dreaming City. This included an argument between a couple characters and some weird shit about Vex and the destruction (wholesale) of Mercury. So, what does this have to do with the Darkness? Someone had to reciprocate the information to the forums. This person was ghost59. Here's the twist. The first thing he said was something unrelated entirely to the post on Reddit, and he edited out because of this... but... I gave it some thought and it ACTUALLY MAKES SOME -blam!-ING SENSE... A LITTLE TOO MUCH SENSE. Here's a paraphrase of what he said, "the Darkness was dead and the pyramid ships are its closest followers trying to resurrect it using the Traveler". So... how does this make sense? Let me tell you. This entire time the Darkness has been chasing the Traveler, wreaking havoc on every single system IT could get its hands on. Thousands of worlds fell to the Queen of Final Shapes and its minions. Here's the thing nearly every minion of the Deep seems to forget, they won't live to see the end. So WHAT IF the Darkness entity truly died in the Collapse? Let me (re)introduce you to my understanding of Light and Dark. From what I can gather, the powers work similar to the Force. As in it's both a moral or given thing. For example, a Guardian of Light turned Dark can get the ability to use the Dark. Likewise, a being of the Dark that's able to resist the urge can turn to the Light. There's also a patron entity for these abilities. I believe the best way to describe it is by dividing it into two things. Sources and entities. The entities control the ultimate flow of the powers but the sources can bring them and inevitably keep them in this world. As long as those sources are available, we can use whatever power we have. For example, I believe had the Gift Mast not been destroyed, we could've had our Light throughout the Red War. If the Darkness entity were dead, then logically the Hive and Taken would depower or not exist at all. However, we see the Hive still using their power on Titan before the Traveler woke. This can be explained by saying there are multiple sources of Dark power. Whether it's the amount of Blight left behind or another Gift Mast-like object, we don't know. Maybe it's other powerful beings... like the Nine, but we'll get to that in a bit. Either way, with this in mind, the Darkness entity dying and the power still remaining makes sense. Now how would a spectral entity die? It's not unheard of. Let me bring you back to the Force and introduce you to a little place called Mortis. On this world there lived a small group of individuals named The Daughter (light side), The Son (dark side), and The Father (balance). They were unbelievably powerful. If one were to get rid of or suppress the other significantly, then there would be a galactic imbalance. The Son kills the Daughter (by accident, but still) and everything starts going dark... metaphorically speaking. However, when the Son dies, balance is restored. Point is, these beings could die. So can the Queen of Final Shapes and the Gardener. Hell, the latter fears for its life constantly. Perhaps its sacrifice was so powerful the Dark died. The Dark Entity has a personality, it wouldn't be surprising if it had an ego on it, too. The fact that the Traveler stayed and fought back is something it reasonably shouldn't expect. IT was caught off guard. Hell, it caught everyone else off guard. Did I explain that well? I don't really think I did but I'm sure someone will get it. What about the other part? About the ships being its closest followers? Well I got something for that to. Enter the Nine... again. I don't think I have to explain why I distrust them so, but here's a summary. Nine hate Light Jovians hurt by Light Shady as all hell Kidnap Awoken Have relation to Ahamkara Cabal still don't know what they really are Unknown Space almost took Variks So many triangles in Equinox The very first theory about what the Nine are involve the survivors of cis-Jovian colonies that made a COMPACT WITH AN ALIEN FORCE TO SURVIVE. Sound familiar? It gets better. Xur says the Nine made the change but pretty much everything physical about him points to the Darkness, so how can the Nine be responsible UNLESS THEY ARE A SOURCE OF DARKNESS.
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
ANOTHER LINE DIRECTLY FROM THE GRIMOIRE. Recently nearly every theory is being proven in some way. The 9 Ghosts, Awoken, Deep-Orbit Minds, etc. It's all part of the Nine. The Nine aren't simply 9 entities with a shit ton of pawns. The Nine is a bloody faction of spies. Do you know how easy it is to ruin us from within? They don't have our full trust but the Queen totally puts enough faith in them for SOMETHING (probably the end of the Hive). It would be WAY TOO EASY to turn around and point the gun at the head of Sol. And what about this, the very last theory of the Nine?
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.
That could be it. The death of the Dark, but the power flowing through. They are another source of Darkness. They transformed the Jovians, for what, the latter's survival? There's another purpose for them, surely. I'm going to continue my belief that the Jovians built the ships, but under the Nine's orders as they work to dismantle us slowly and every other thing that enters the system. But then why do the Nine work to destroy the Hive? Why do they hate Oryx so much? Simple. The Hive aren't worthy. They were never part of the Final Shape. They will NEVER be strong enough to survive until the end of everything. The Worms fooled them, the Hive will starve... and then the Worms with them as the Hive desperately find things to kill. Also, Oryx was set on destroying the Traveler. Why would you let him when you need the Gardener to resurrect the Deep? So the Osmium Dynasty will fall. Then the Nine will -blam!- us up in one swift motion and invade us with those ships based so clearly off the Queen of Armies and her vessel. There, it all comes together and in the end, the Nine still did the dirty work. Now it's a waiting game to see if I'm one of Destiny's most insane conspiracy theorists or I guessed the plot points way too -blam!-ing early. I also realized I can explain this better while talking, not writing.>

      I found some more concept pieces from the original traveller dream sequence for destiny 2. Not like the ones we’ve seen before. I finally get what cayde meant by “tendrils of pain”.

The Guardians unwilling to part with the Light,l and protect the Traveler vs the Guardians who embrace Darkness to protect humanity as a whole. The Traveler most likely is a part of the Darkness that escaped, and the darkness has been after it ever since. Trying to seek completion to become whole one again, where nothing needed to exist because it's perfected.

          • The nine are 9 of a crew of 900 from a colony ship that went unaccounted for after it was attack and engulfed by one of the Darkness ships during the collapse. It is implied that they are awoken because everyone on the ship was torn apart and remade inside the distributary, but we'll have to see. There is nothing confirming anything about the Jovians being changed or making a pact with the darkness. Judging by the nature of the darkness and what it did to life just by being near it (Immediate paralysis, excruciating pain, and buildings ripped apart, as Cayde 6 recalled from a memory of his life during the collapse, and before that, the whirlwind, which destroyed the home world of the Eliksni) I doubt the darkness, at that point, was handing out vouchers for a pact.

It makes references to the dead child's "spark" which implies that everyone (human) has light inside them (human soul). This is covered in the Sophia myth which Destiny is strongly based on. Bungie has confirmed this with recent lore references to the "Demiurge". The Nine were cis-Jovian (on the side of Jupiter closest to the sun) humans on the Yang Liwei. During the mixture of Light and Darkness that created the Awoken, it's stated that there wasn't enough light to repulse the Darkness. I believe "The Nine" were those on the ship who were touched solely by Darkness as there wasn't enough Light to convert them to Awoken. According to the Sophia myth, the Demiurge is a demi-god of the materium (also referenced in Destiny lore) -- This appears to be The Traveler. There are several references to Guardians being "dead things". In the Sophia myth, when someone dies their soul (their spark of light) is (at some point) returned to the Pleroma. (i.e. Heaven). The Traveler prevents this which I believe offsets the cosmic balance that the Light & Darkness must maintain. If you read the Saint-14 helm lore, it mentions a Guardian Savior. The Destiny story is written from this perspective. In the Sophia myth, there is a reference to the equiv. of Jesus. A Light-Bearer. In the game, the icon for the "Rogue Light-Bearer" is a Serpent -- even Ikora states something to the effect of there being an enemy close by and not being able to speak openly. Lucifer actually means Light-Bearer -- who is represented by a Serpent in numerous religions. (although there is no named "Lucifer" in Gnosticism) "I FORM THE LIGHT AND CREATE DARKNESS" There's also correlations to the story of Prometheus from Greek Mythology to the Sophia myth. I believe the Traveler stole the light from the Darkness (which wasn't the darkness at the time, theft of the "light" caused it to go dark. This is referenced in Destiny concept art depending on the current interpretation). The Darkness is trying to restore balance although recent content seems to imply a dimensional balance. In the Sophia myth, the Aeon Sophia has a "child" (without a male Aeon). This child separated from her body and was hideous. Sophia hid the child in a cloud of light to hide it's appearance from the other Aeons. The child had the head of a lion, body of a snake and burning radiant eyes. (Lion, Snake, Radiant Phoenix) . This child is known as the "Demiurge". The Demiurge "stole" the light from Sophia. Sophia is trying to correct this in the myth. I believe the Traveler is creating these undead armies to prevent the "Light" being returned to it's original owner.

              • { The problem I can see with this theory is the fact that the Heart of the Black Garden existed. Even though it was separated from itself, it was still squirming, alive. It could even defend itself. It could be that for the Darkness to be truly destroyed, it must be wiped without a trace. If the Darkness truly was killed entirely, there would be no Ascendant Realm, no Heart, no “channeling” Darkness, no Taken. }

                  I try not to be negative towards others opinions or theories, particularly when it’s obvious a lot of work went into it. Firstly thank you for the read. Secondly, it makes very little sense. One cannot kill entropy. The darkness in destiny is meant to represent entropy. It is one of the foundational cornerstones of the game. The “light” is diametrically opposed to entropy. Resurrection vs death. Disregard whatever grimoire card you are reading and try to understand the base concept of the game. I firmly believe guardians are meant to have been the antagonist in the original story, working against the natural order of the universe, using the power of a corrupt alien intelligence. After the rewrite, there was no dramatic reveal. Bungie has been trying to rectify this concept since that time and that is why you have the convoluted story. This is not meant to be a negative commentary about you or what you present here so I hope you don’t take it that way. Until the developer can rectify the inherent problem of having a race of immortal warriors who serve an alien intelligence that they don’t actually understand or communicate with, well you wind up with convoluted story plots that ultimately lead no where. That’s why you have stagnation in terms of actually moving the story forward.

Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather, he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank just outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold

I believe he made a huge tactical error coming here, blinded by his hatred of the Traveler for causing the great tidal wave that destroyed his home. After all, he was wasn't just happening to cruise by the milky way.... he skipped god knows how many galaxies to come directly here. I dont believe it was for crotas honor either. I mean, who tossed his stupid ass through a portal to return glorious or die forgotten? Sword logic dictates he would accept his defeat because he wasn't strong enough anyways.....but at the hand of the traveler? Game on. I do agree on Mara though. That smug thot isn't as smart as she thinks she is. Her recent spoken distain for the Traveler is very telling....however I'm still not convinced we are on the right side yet anyways. When you are the only one in the room that doesn't think you're wrong....you are most likely the problem.

                                      Very...interesting. I’m totally on board with the whole “Nine have a strong connection to the darkness” thing. But I wouldn’t really call them a source of darkness. From last two quotes about the nine that you reference, I conclude that they have a relationship with the darkness similarly to the Jovians. They might be more like allies, influenced heavily by the arrival and destruction of the darkness. Speaking of which, I also believe the darkness wasn’t killed when the traveler sacrificed itself. People like the speaker always refer to it as a “pushing back” of the darkness. That explains why the “remaining” triangle ships are waaay outside our solar system. They fled. Went dormant. If we believe Ulan Tan and this theory on balance, then this would be logical, since the traveler also went dormant. Lastly, on the Jovians building the triangle ships. Im afraid that’s impossible. We know that they were human colonists before, so they were probably the first ones to experience the collapse. Depending on how much time passed between the attack on them and the attack on earth, it either makes somewhat sense or doesn’t. In the time between these two attacks, the Jovians had to be transformed, indoctrinated and build the ships. All of them. And there are many, Many of them. We know that the triangle ships were there when earth got attacked. That’s a lot of work for such a timeframe. As always, I’m sure you are onto something, but you probably went a little overboard on this one.

                                      • So..the nine have the ability to control the triangle ships?? Or did the light do that? I think the darkness is the final form or the first form of the vex, which would explain why they worship it in the garden and why they simulate guardians & their attempt to simulate light. Because they either want to beat themselves before they become the darkness or change the outcome Either way, the darkness means something to the vex, they worshipped it they studied its weakness, they built their world engine simulator to study guardians, plus we still have Quaria resetting the dreaming city
