There is a very good but a little bit annoying way to get a lot of masterwork cores/mod components. Go to Spider and buy any resource which is sold for legendary shards. Spend all the shards you have. Then, go to a vendor and exchange the resources for gear. Then, dismantle gear for legendary shards, weapon components, and, if you're lucky, masterwork cores and mod components. Boring but useful. You'll get back like 85% of legendary shards spent. Repeat if necessary.

I believe Mercury is the best place to do this - Mercury and Mars give you shards for shaders, but Mars reward packages are 70 or 80 mats where Mercury is still 50 or 60. You might actually get back more shards than you spend if you use Mercury...
