And what do you know he's the first comment i see.
Hmm if i could make a unique rpg combat style... Diablo and Disgaea are my types of RPGs, but they're basically the polar opposite.

I was getting Aifos vibes as well. Funny how Aifos was also the first reply I got. Anyways, onto your idea. First thing that came to mind with it was actually Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, maybe with a hint of that more recent Nippon Ichi game Labyrinth of Refrain. Maybe also a bit of dungeon siege, depending on what party size you’d want for this.
