Oh SHITE, thats an excellent point. Or if they can control gravity, manipulate orbits to line up so the event APPEARS natural. Perhaps the darkness/deep has a developed MO that it seems the hive have purposefully/accidently mimicced. Basically, use the Traveller as a marker for advanced civilizations, or any it may find on its own. Then it uses its power, including its gravity manipulation among others to create near extinction level catastrophies. The purpose of which is to try and force the survivors into such a desperate and grim situation that they cling to ANY offer of a way to survival, no matter what state that “survival” may be. I think the deep may know it is not truly the final end state as only in the most extreme rare circumstances would soomeone look at the options and choise the Deep (the krill are one of these rare instances, the zizigy was merely the final straw in a cruel world). Move in, shatter their faith, conversion through extreme adversity.
