"we don't want to mess up your head cannon"

My warlock would've never put his beloved bad juju down. My warlock wouldn't have forgotten how to use shatter nova bomb My warlock wouldn't have let ghal monologue him until my light vanished. My warlock wouldn't have taken orders from Sloane, knowing that she has commander rank for doing virtually nothing while my fireteam and I have been killing Gods and timelords for years My guardian would have taken the the vanguard to the shard of the Traveller asap. My warlock would've questioned where all of the precautions that sprawled the system we set up went during ghaul's assault My warlock wouldn't have forgotten how to get to the moon, Venus, the exclusion zone, the cosmodrome, plaugelands, reef, and etc. My warlock wouldn't have helped calus get rid of Argos or kahor. He my lock would've gathered as many voidwalkers as possible and wiped out the Leviathan, and then deal with them. My warlock would've told Osiris that the speaker was dead. And while, he was at it, he would've asked him about everything he knew about the vex and his relationship with Toland, etc My warlock wouldn't have listened to a word ana Bray has said considering all of it conflicts with what he's learned about Rasputin over the past 4 years. My warlock would be going out a experimenting with the taken and how they are growing in power with their new connection to savathun. My warlock would've searched for uldren as soon as he realized he might be a part of this new mega house of fallen My warlock would have checked on the vault by now to make sure atheon didn't unlock the vex's ontological power out of the vault. My warlock would've check to make sure nothing was going on in the Dreadnaught I could go on and on. Fact is the warlock on my screen isn't MY warlock. It's a puppet that looks like him. And if you are going to make that puppet do what I wouldn't, just give it a name and a voice so it isn't awkward as hell for every cutscene he's in That. Is NOT my warlock. So don't try to say he is. Because if that really is supposed to be my lock, then you've already -blam!-ed up my head cannon just from the actions you force him to do Edit: overall answers to some stuff I've seen. "It's just a game"
true. A game I payed for. I want to enjoy it. I fell in love with this franchise in 2014, and want to see if thrive. So if I see a flaw, I'm gonna call it out. Because if people don't complain or pitch ideas, then nothing can gets better. I mean, people seem to have forgotten the reason most of the cool changes for forsaken that are coming are due to the community complaining
"Why can't we just say our guardian wants to help people"
because that belittles the point of it being YOUR guardian. Look, I'm a dick. I don't always want to help. I have certain principles. And if MY guardian doesn't reflect that it shouldn't be my guardian. It should be a "Joe" or "Steve" with their principles so there is no conflict in ideal in action. And even then, if my cannon is getting -blam!-ed anyway, I might as well get to TALK
"Alternate universe"
I mean, fine. I'm cool with that, but why didn't they say that. By not saying that, it makes seem like we're just writing them out of certain problems they made
"You should follow Sloane" * Other thing they disagreed with from my 'my warlock would/wouldn't' speed
I put those specifically to highlight how my guardian and his ideals conflict with his actions. Thus, the cannon is -blam!-ed, thus we should at least get to speak. Instead, some saw it as a way to prove sloane deserved to be listened to as if she'd be demoted otherwise. Listen I don't care if Sloane is commander. I care that Sloane is the only commanding officer that got her title with basically no feats, or one really vague one of climbing the ranks. It doesn't feel like she earned it. That's my opinion and I stick by it. I believe instead, it should have been jagi or saladin or efrideet, etc. And if it we're MY guardian, I wouldn't follow her. That's all I was trying to say
Edit 2: more answers to prominent responses (not everything, but as much as I could remember, so sorry if I didn't respond to your rebuttal) But first, I will restate my problem and the solution to it PROBLEM: bungie has stated they don't want to mess up our head cannon by giving us a voice that may not sound like what some players imagine or it might not say what they want. At the same time, they have forced our guardian, a guardian they've marketed to be YOU the player into committing to specific actions. And some of these actions might not align with the players ideals, leaving them to say "I wouldn't do that." Or "why can't I do this" SOLUTIONS: A) give us a voice. If our actions mess with some of our cannons, we might as well have a voice. Not having one just makes cutscenes and parts of the game more awkward than they need to be B) allow us to eventually pick our own paths with certain allegiances and hatreds dependent on the player with consequences and rewards for one's actions. (I doubt this one will come seeing as it would be difficult to implement, and d3 already started development, so... D4? Maybe) C) just give us a pre established guardian with their own backstory, morals, and principles. That way if they do something that may not align with our ideals it doesn't matter as it isn't OUR guardian. It's someone else. Okay, now to the responses "It's an fps not an RPG. Why care about story"
saying a game can't tell a story is a flawed and archaic argument. And it's even worse when you try to excuse it because it's an fps. Bioshock, Titanfall, and Halo (a franchise made by bungie themselves) are all fps that can and do tell stories. And destiny can to. All they have to do is read their own lore... And put it in the game. That's been my complaint for almost half a decade now. Excusing from doing it solves nothing
"This isn't that type of game. you can't pick your own path. Just go"
if that's the case, I'm fine with it. I wasn't even solely suggesting we get our own paths. But can we at least get our voices? For -blam!- sakes, if we already have a messed up cannon, that should just be something g we have. Or again, just. Give us. Pre established guardians. With their own ideals so their actions MAKE SENSE
" you sound like a narcissist/ you vape with your lock?/ Your guardian is a Mary Sue/ etc"
I appreciate the compliments. There were many more, but these were my favorites. Unfortunately, I wasn't called a -blam!-. Not going to act like that wasn't a disappointment. Just have to try harder next time. In all seriousness, though. This is a part of my point. The warlock in my head cannon won't align with everyone else's guardians. No one's will. Which is why it is immediately flawed when they try to put us all on the same path. Either accept that it is intrisically flawed and give us a voice or give us pre established characters with their own back stories so shit makes sense.
"You don't complain when other mc's from other games do what you don't"
that's because kratos, Nathan Drake, noctis, and etc aren't marketed as me. They are their own persons with their own backstories and histories I wasn't okay with alot of what kratos did by game 3... Kinda went... A bit too far, but he was his own character so I accepted as his actions. But the guardian has always been marketed as THE PLAYER. As such, there is no defense. It just feels a bit lazy
In destiny My warlock: fwc My titan: new monarchy My hunter: dead orbit Destiny 2 All characters must pledge to same allegiance breaks my head canon. Edit: I miss our voiced guardians as well. My head canon would not have my guardians be mutes. Maybe my titan exo who knows how many memory wipes he is at and for all I know his voice regulator doesn't work anymore. Now my awoken and human should still talk at least.
