Ok. Tested multiple things.
You can get an upgrade part for the Catalyst with ANY attack.
The problem is, you have to do a certain amount of damage in a certain amount of time. Tessaract grants that with ease(except on the Ogre that you must hit on the back, it’s super fücking hard tbh).
Normal swing, upper cut worked on that ogre^
And boss can NOT be Tethered. Any other buff is fine.

So, it's RNG on top of a DPS-check? That sucks, but at least I know what to go for now. I actually got my first one a few hours ago through using Tesseract on the boss, trying to survive the slam that would inevitably follow, then doing it again, almost definitely dying at this point and having to respawn, and then repeating the process. I had to go through about 10 full clips of ammo for it to finally proc (-blam!-ing ridiculous), so that's about 90 Tesseracts. Any idea [i]why[/i] you have to hit the ogre in the back? Is it because you need the precision damage from his weak point to get enough DPS, or does it straight up not count if you hit him anywhere else?

It’s not RNG. Think the 45 memory fragments that you have to shoot. A certain amount of consistent damage, sustained until you reach goal amount. This is a common theme throughout the game (fragments, Argos crit points, Calus’ shield...)

It’s the only place you can damage him. Everywhere else is immune.
