I started thinking about this after I saw a meme. It both offended me slightly and tickled me a bit, but it made a point:
Showing a somewhat graphic shot of the crucifixion from a movie it had Christ saying in the captions:
Remember, I died...
So you wouldn't have to sell cakes to gays
It used a different word for "gays" tho. But it struck me because I don't think selling something to gays would even be an issue for Christ or the early Christians. While homosexuality was violently discouraged from Jewish communities, it was a widepsread practice among non Jews in the Roman culture that Christ lived in. If a gay Roman centurion walked into Jesus's carpenters shop and asked for a bed frame, I honestly think Christ would have made it for him. Yes, it would have been his "right" to refuse service, but it would not have been the Christian thing to do.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the bakeries that have gotten in the news for refusing service to gays were likely operated by Christians. As Christians they should have been accepting towards their gay costomers, not nessecarily condoning a lifestyle they think is inherently wrong, but accepting of the people as fellow sinners in need of Christs love. While they certainly have their "rights" as business owners, they should not have thrown the first stone. If more conservative Christians lived and acted more like Christ, many of our current controversies wouldn't be an issue. But as a somewhat diselusioned evangelical I can safely say that a greater part of my brothers and sisters in Christ are assholes.
There you go. That's my rare piece of political commentary and excuse for not studying for finals. Your welcome.

If Jesus comes back, we will just kill him again.
-
Jesus forgave sin, but also said to sin no more. So, no I don't think he would bake a cake for a gay wedding, but I'm not God so really no one knows.
-
I’m pretty sure Jesus was against homosexuality (unfortunately), despite otherwise being described as a characteristically nice person
-
Edited by bigtimejamez: 6/27/2018 6:27:34 PMOf course he would have. The people Jesus chose to build his church were sinners and losers. Homosexuality may be a sin. But that doesn’t make gay people worse than everyone else (unless they’re like, murderers, or something). I don’t think Jesus was a baker tho.
-
Probably. Jesus was the era's equivalent version of Post Malone today: Super chill, friendly, and had to deal with a ton of petty shit from haters because they weren't successful like he was.
-
I definitely agree, there are so many "Christians" who go around judging others and acting like they are perfect, while ignoring biblical teachings on loving and judging others. It's like that Kim Davis who refused to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. Of course when it comes to her own life, she hasn't let her religious beliefs stop her from marrying 3 times and having children by another man while still married to one of her former husband's. Then there are all the "religious leaders" and family values politicians who have been caught in adulterous and/or same sex affairs. Basically, unless you are perfect, and without sin, you are in no position to judge others. By in large, the overall message of Jesus is that we should love our fellow man as he loved us, regardless of their faults and sins.

Ye olde wedding cake shop.
Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.

Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven

Do to others as you would have them do to you.
I always find it odd that so many Christians quote some obscure Old Testament verse condemning homosexuality instead of following the words of Jesus himself.
As an atheist and a secular humanist I don’t really care what Jesus would do anyway.
Real question is whether or not the couple would accept a cake baked by Jesus. Sure he had some redeeming qualities, but dude straight up sucked at baking cakes. I hear he never sifted his flour.
-
i would assume if it was during the active minnistry period he would say, go, and sin no more
-
Firstly, atheist here but... let's say this From what I know Id say that Jesus represents true kindness, his dad not so much but I've never heard a bad story about Jesus, so yes I'm sure he would help any and all regardless. He is a leading example to what being a Christian should be. That's isn't to say that all christians must be exactly like Jesus. I enjoyed this case on the gays and the baker tho, it highlights a flaw in political correctness. Both sides are right and yet wrong. They gays were refused service based on sexuality, but if they made the baker make a cake then the bakers religion would be undermined. I think the ruling was right in the end, you should not make anyone create something they are uncomfortable with. Just go to another bakers job done.
-
He’d tar and feather whatever business didn’t serve his apostles I guess
-
I wonder, would it be a fish flavored cake?
-
Hard to say I mean the guy got nailed 3 times in one instance
pleas no ban
-
If you as a Christian don’t know and have to ask if Jesus would have sold a wedding cake to a gay couple, you don’t know the man at all.
-
“Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s”. Not only would Jesus have not had a problem with it, He likely would have been angry at someone looking to mistreat someone else in His Name. I remember a certain incident involving Him...a Temple....Moneychangers.... ....and a whip.
-
Hate the sin not the sinner. Still love your fellow human.
-
He was a carpenter, not a baker, so probably not.
-
No he’d just make a cake out of thin air and give it to them for free
-
Yes cause he still loves them

I wouldn’t mind selling a product to a gay couple, but I wouldn’t sell my products in celebration of a gay marriage. There’s a difference.
-
Edited by Romans43: 6/25/2018 9:58:57 PMIf he were to do that, he would basically say “I encourage your descent into hell” There’s a difference between kindness and what everyone else says is kindness. I’m not saying preach to your neighbors, but if you want to help someone, help them get on the right path.
-
No, he would not, as it would be enabling and celebrating what he considers a sin. Would he bake them a cake to celebrate a promotion or their niece's birthday? Probably.
-
He wouldn’t, but he would use his superpowers to cure them of their gayness.

Edited by KingOfGames: 6/25/2018 8:27:01 PMI don't know what Jesus would do. If I was selling the cake I would exclude the following: 1. Walmart employees 2. Gender fluids 3. Gender fluid Walmart employees 4. That one guy I ran into at Walmart 5. Steroid users 6. Ur mum (cuz she ghey) And if my neighbors show up I would ban them forever
