One of the things I think Bungie has forgotten about over the years is that matchmaking was a method of finding and making new friends online. I've been on XBL since it started, and most of my friends list consists of people I met back in Halo 2, and various other games at the time. Perhaps times have simply changed - the online dynamic certainly has. Back in the Halo 2 days, everyone had a mic, everyone talked, everyone talked shit to each other,, "Come 1v1 me" and all that jazz... Sure there was also a negative side to it with rampant harassment for some players, hence why the Mute button became a thing, and why private chat parties are now heavily used, but it allowed for a much more social gaming community than the one that exists now. It's partly due to the people, but also due to the developers putting so many restrictions on how we can or can't interact, forcing us into a protective bubble where we can't accidentally get hurt. My thought is that we should at least get the OPTION to choose for ourselves whether we want to be exposed to the world or not. D1 used to allow players to stick together from one Strike to the next...why was that taken out in D2? Did a bunch of people complain about that? Alright, so instead of taking it out, give an option (via a button press) after the Strike has ended to "Press ___ to stick with fireteam for next strike?" or, "Press ___ to return to orbit" - how is that so hard? If people want to be matchmade into a Raid group, why not let them? Let a group of randoms come together to work towards completing the raid, and maybe become friends in the process! This is already happening on the site and in the app anyway... Perhaps they fail - so what? It'll be a learning process that maybe they'll attempt again at a later time. Or, maybe they'll hate each other after 5 minutes! Why does it matter? Just give people the choice is all I ask for.

  • Definitely would like to keep my strike teams. If I find a group that we seem to naturally play well together where no one is carrying each other, everyone has each other's back and plays their supporting roles to the letter without even using mics then maybe I would like to reach out to them. Maybe then take that same group to the nightfall since we played so well together then. If the team isn't working out just leave and queue up again.

  • Exactly! Continue playing with them, take them to a NF, a Raid, strike up conversation about others games or topics, etc...boom! New friends! Bungie aint about it though apparently...

  • back in halo 2 days I remember me being the only person out of my friends that had xbox live... back then only the adults had it, or in my case a teenager that had to work and pay for it himself... then the consoles bought for kids who liked screaming at the mic happend and then people started playing without mics to avoid not harassment but annoying kids that thought it was funny to swear, call names, or whatever at people instead of gg bro.... I know this cuz I slapped my bro who was two years younger than me upside the head when he was playing on my console and acting like that on halo2.... he thought it was funny until after I had disciplined him....

  • LFG exists...why does bungie need to implement a feature for matchmaking with a player initiated activity? LFG post, build your fireteam, and move forward...matchmaking unnecessary...guided games, a moot point...

  • Well maybe because pretty much every other mmo like game on the market has it. Wow , diablo, warframe , the div etc. And they are also social games you play with your friends. The social community argument doesnt hold.

  • You my good Sir have many valid points and the argument would weigh up in any court, unfortunately you are preaching to Bungie and they wont listen to you. I for one agree with everything you said.

  • Very sorry guardian but what you are saying is too much like GOOD COMMON SENSE and is a WELL THOUGHT OUT STATEMENT. Which as we know is NOT in bungies playbook. But i for one totally agree with you. Let people try everything with match making and if they fail well thats a big SO WHAT. At least some might learn from it and get better at it. Bravo and well said.

  • Have to agree, the choice should be there. I played a lot of The Division in its first year and while that game didn't have anything as complex as Destiny's raids, the four-man Incursions were highly challenging activities. They had random matchmaking and I'll be the first to admit, it usually resulted in a catastrophe. But every now and then you found three other randoms who had their mics on and were willing to fail and retry the activity until we succeeded. A few of those guys ended up on my friends list and became semi-regular teammates in that game. It certainly wouldn't hurt to add that as an option for Destiny.
