Solo Players Are Not Casual Players

Can we just recognise that a large % of Destiny players are solo and play just as much if not more than players who choose to put together fireteams and run raids? No one wants fast easy progression - It's a huge issue in D2 right now. Make it harder, make it slower - BUT make sure you make it possible for solo players. Iron banner was the go to activity to get higher light gear and weapons. That's gone now. Even Luke Smith recognised publicly that the majority of players don't raid or use fire teams. Guided games was a disaster. This progression update sounds like it wants to make it very difficult for solo players to hit max light. How about some more matchmaking Bungie? Of all the times to push group play - now is not the time with the lowest ever number of players online. Or do you just want to lose some more of your player base. • As far as Destiny goes...if you don’t do any raiding or trials then it’s safe to assume you’re a casual. It’s nothing to be ashamed of but lets call a spade a spade.

  • We're not getting Destiny back. Hardcore players shouldn't feel proud and casuals shouldn't be ashamed.

  • They keep forcing RPG elements on to us without the substance that goes with them. We get levels, but why? In most RPG's you make the levels doing pretty much anything, in groups is usually faster but you can still solo, but the levels bring new skills/spells/gear unlocks. Its the top end gear that you raid for in groups once you've made those levels. We kind of had that with D1 vanilla. The raid gear is garbage now thanks to PvP balance, so now we raid for levels? I think the problem is me, that I keep putting an expectation on this game to be more RPG. It's not what Bungie wants, for them this is a FPS with lots of artificial grind elements added. That D1 feeling I don't believe is ever coming back, that went away with the Staten crew, and I think it's really time just accept that.

  • Yes. On another note. The team thing forced me to lfg in D1 & D2. The people on these teams were 95% of the time awesome & made the activity reach near epic levels (more so in D1). However I am and remain a solo player. To have matchmaking for raids, other activities would require some careful thinking and implementation that would be a struggle for Bungie. I am in favour of change but curious what it would look like in game.

    • Agree. Bungie just keeps pushing the team activity BS. This really pisses me off even more as all my D1 pages of friends do not play this shit game. There still are ZERO in-game tools or lobbies to find players who want to do the same activities. No, guided games does not count. I think Bungle will just lose more player base with this progression change. They already lost most of the D1 players and hardcore, now they will lose the casuals. People are not coming back. Bungle has burned and jaded so many people. And the game is still lacking features that other games had over 10 years ago.

    • You should follow some of the devs on Twitter. They addressed this concern Wednesday. Anyone can reach max light by doing solo activities. Raids/Trials/Nightfalls just make the progression faster.

      • If you don't run the either the raid, trials, or nightfall consistently. Then yes, it's acceptable to label that player as casual.

        • Solo players can be hardcore players. My beef isn't with solo players. Destiny 2 was simplified and dumbed-down to be intellectually undemanding and accessible to a wide audience to placate casuals that don't want to work towards rewards and achievements. After 1500+ hours of playing Destiny 1 I dumped D2 and went back to playing the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne... where filthy casuals go to die.

I think Bungie are starting to realise this and that as a result their progression changes may in fact have shot them in the foot. it will be very interesting to see what they do as, the news coming out recently is showing that they are fast realising this based on comments and feedback on reddit and here. I wonder if bungie have a special desk that people with ideas sit at. the desk has a shotgun pointed at the floor and, as you come up with an idea, you pull the trigger. If the shot misses your foot you dismiss it (the idea) as invalid. Only ideas that cost you a toe or above are considered by management.

I agree, i'm a damn pro, but don't like playing with people.. raids especially.. you have to wait, cater to the weak link, i get round about top score in pvp.. I like running around solo.. wish the map was bigger with more unique things.. Matchmaking too for when I feel lazy turning on my pc and posting for Groups to join that have mediocre requirements.. NEED MIC, NEED 1million KD, Able to know all glitches and cheeses, "hey you're not following my orders I'm the leader, KICK THEM" ugh, control freaks in LFG.. Also, im in a clan with friends that USED to love playing.. now no one in the clan plays.

          • Trials is floundering. Now is the time to make a splash! Change Trials to a solo queue playlist. Progression problems solved. I am so tired of the heavy lifters in Trials (respect) being lumped together with all those players riding coat tails. If progression must go through 'Trials', let's put all Guardians on the same solid footing. Who knows? Maybe nobody will reach the hardcap!

            • Max light/power should only be attainable in the game modes where it makes a difference, IMO. So if light or power is not taken into consideration in quickplay, then you can't progress. If it is taken into consideration in trials, banner or competitive, then there should be chance of progression, either by grind or drops. Raids, obviously the hardest content, should give the better gear. If you play competitive against these ppl, you may get battered, but you could grind it out if you keep playing competitive. Same for strikes and unmodified nightfall. If damage caps out at 320 light, then that's all it should give. Time to challenge yourself and go for heroic or prestige mode.
this is probably BS, halfway through a bottle of Jonnie walker, but if you not doing endgame stuff, then you shouldn't have endgame light
• Bungie have always had an ethos that raiding was the best way to get the best gear and for the most part it looks like they're going back to that. I play mostly solo but its never stopped me doing any of the raids and they are the best parts of the game. Your prayers may be answered with matchmaking.

Let me stop you right at the first line. The large % of players are clans and people who play with consistent groups not solo players. Oh and it's not hard going to the game hub and posting lfg posts if you want help or need people to run with it's how you make friends. I still remember 4 years ago in D1 met a dude through lfg and to this day still play together.

              • All they said was that doing raids and trials would get you max light FASTER. They never said that you wouldn't be able to level up if you don't do those activities. Its just gonna happen much slower, which is fine. What's with this have your cake and eat it too mentality that people have? If you can't put in the time or complete all the activities, why should you have the exact same experience as those who can? And besides all that, if you're not gonna do the raids then what's the point in needing max light? I would also be willing to bet that IB is gonna keep reverting to D1 with max light gear and end of match drops.

              • 90% of this player-base don't even know what a casual is. They think it's a bad player when that's the farthest from the truth. There are numerous casuals that are way better than hardcore players out there.

If you're not playing nightfalls and raids because you're a solo player what in the world do you need the progression for in the first place? Soft cap is 340. That's going to be hit by end of campaign, 345 if you have legendary mods on your gear. It's unlikely to lock you out from any solo activities. Heroic modifiers are coming back to heroic strikes with the next DLC. I find it doubtful that they're going to be higher than 270 power or something, just with mods to make it more challenging / different.

                • Solo player. Iron banner is so pointless. Let me sum it up... Win one lose one... Over and over. What's the point in trying? If my team or I does well then I can expect I'm gonna lose the next game. And no loot? These guys need to employee someone with some sense. In general, 6v6 is better. But, the old weapon system has to come back. I'd much rather anticipate a sniper or shotty/fusion at any moment than tracking grenades or rockets and cheesy swords. It has to revert or September is gonna bury this game PvP wise.

                  • I am solo player and I rarely run any activity with my clan - I run PvP activities mostly with randoms Same for strikes and for nightfall I use fireteam finder on bungie app That being said I raid as much as I can - I've made good friends doing this- but even now I raid (n prestige raid) more than they do My point: as a solo player I recommend you start raiding- there are good people there and heck, the raids are fun On the app if you join a group most of the time they have their requirements (so you know if it's a good fit) or you can make your own post with your own requirements If you're intimated by the mechanics there are plenty of guides on YouTube
