Idea For A Class That (Kind Of) Makes Sense

Posted this a few months back but hey, figured I'd post it again since the last one wasn't the most popular. Now a lot of classes have been suggested for Destiny 2, but this one makes a lot of sense to me lore wise and could be implemented in either an expansion or a new game. I haven't got too much of a name for it yet, but for now let's refer to it as "Settler" until I can think of a cooler name for it in the future. [STORY EXPLANATION AND OBTAINING THE CLASS] At the end of the campaign we see that the Traveler has awoken once again. Now weirdly the Traveler despite being awake doesn't seem to do anything except maybe give back all the other non PC Guardians their Light back? Not even that much is certain, however that probably is the case. Now this entire class idea runs off of a few "what if's" so keep that in mind. But what if, in theory, the Traveler began creating new ghosts. Many ghosts were probably destroyed when Ghaul did his whole cage deal, and previously it was mentioned that there were no reports of new Ghosts being created. If the Traveler is in fact awake it would make sense for it to make new Ghosts to help fight the Darkness/Aliens Some of these ghosts could then be used to revive people who died in the attack on the city. As such, you'd unlock the class after the campaign, requiring you to have hit 280 on any character. You could create a new character of this class that immediately starts at Level 20, but would have to unlock any abilities by leveling up and getting Ability Points. You could replay the entire story optionally with the excuse that "you have to learn the events that led to you earning your power, Guardian" through Ikora's weird meditation gyro ball. [QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CLASS] Every existing class has all of these things in common that would inevitably tie over any new classes: -They have some form of class armor (Warlock Bonds, Titan Marks, Hunter Cloaks) -They have some form of vague role (Warlocks are Mages, Titans are Warriors, Hunters are Rogues) -They do something for humanity (Warlocks study the Light, Titans defend the light, Hunters explore beyond the light) -They have a class ability (Warlock Aura, Titan Shield, Hunter Dodge) -They have some more of silhouette from far away (Which I will explain later) -They get three subclasses, one solar, one arc, one void [CLASS ARMOR) Their class armor would be inspired by Hawthorne- ponchos that end off around their waist or knees and go over their arms. This would give them a very different silhouette from the existing classes, and the ponchos could be more decorated than the Hunter cloaks in D2, harping back more to D1. Helmets would most likely have a long horizontal visor across them, though this part I haven't thought of much. An alternate route could be that the poncho serves as a chest armor like the Warlock robes and then the class armor is a bundle across their back, going from a simple backpack at early levels to more technological or mystic looking bags and bundles. [ROLE] Their role would be more undefined than the existing classes, meaning it can do a lot of different things, but generally work better with teammates (for reasons I will yet again explain later). This is the one area I will say the Pioneer is admittedly lacking in- a specialized role. If I did have to give an RPG comparison I'd say (ironically) a Hunter (the WoW kind not the Destiny kind) [WHAT THEY DO FOR THE CITY] Their function to the City? Well Zavala mentioned that he wants to begin not only defending the city, but taking back new lands, more possible than ever now with the Traveler awake. The reason I call them Settlers is because they serve that role- settling new lands. One might argue this is similar to the Hunters, but keep in mind that the Hunters role is to chart and explore uncharted territory, not to set up settlements. They would be the first people to begin expanding outside of the Wall by the will of the Traveler, to create new cities, to act as, Settlers. This also explains why they'd have packs and ponchos- taking inspiration from Hawthorne [CLASS ABILITY] Their class ability is what I can only refer to as a Beacon. They can fire off a beacon (using similar aiming to Nova Bomb, except this does no damage) that hits the ground and creates an area of effect circle that can do one of two things- Warding Beacon- Create an area in which enemies will not pass through. This is useful if you want to keep melee enemies off your back while reviving someone or doing damage, though it will only stop melee enemies from approaching, not stopping people from shooting at you. It could also provide a minor buff to resistance, though this is optional due to it's potential of being overpowered. Stabilizing Beacon- This is pretty obvious. It gives anyone inside an effect similar to Gunslinger's Trance while within range of the beacon- that being increased stability. It will also give them this benefit for a number of seconds after leaving the range of the beacon. You can guess why this is useful. [SILHOUETTE] As Bungo has stated, all classes must be distinct from far away, disregarding various small details. This would be true for the Settler too. Warlocks stand out due to their robes, Titans stand out because of their rather bulky frame and broad shoulders, Hunters stand out because of their cloaks and their thinner appearance, and the Settlers would stand out because they'd look like trees as a result of the poncho. [SUBCLASSES] I've put less thought into the subclasses but here they are Wayfarer- Solar Subclass, Super summons a flaming lantern that shoots out beams similar to the orbs/crystals in the Pleasure Gardens of the Leviathan raid. This is the big DPS class of the Settler and could be modified to have a constant stream of damage or a huge chargeable blast. Would have armor during activation, separating it from Golden Gun Flagbearer- Arc Subclass, Super places a flag down at the target area which can either give massive buffs to those inside, or act as a damaging Vortex to enemies. This would probably be the easiest to implement and the skills of at least one skill tree could revolve around your Beacon. Fun concept could be that when your super is active you can choose to have it get a smaller area-of-effect on your flag but then use your Beacon to fire off mini-flags. Beast Tamer(best name I could think of)- Void Subclass, Super summons a horde of wolves made of void light that chase enemies. Wolves can also be exchanged for a larger swarm of bats that do lifesteal damage. [OTHER STUFF] -I am not the biggest lore person, so some of this may conflict with existing lore and for that I'd like to apologize and request any mistakes be -Their melee weapon is an ax or hammer -As I get suggestions I will try and clean up this post

  • That's some interesting stuff. I think it'd be cool if they added necromancer/ chrononaut subclasses. One can play with the dead, resurrect dead enemies, get enemies to fight on your side and what not, summon hordes of undead for a super?? Idk or something. The other can play with time, grenades that slow time for enemies trapped inside the aoe, maybe can provide temporary buffs to move speed, reload time, etc for teammates. Maybe can slow or stop time altogether. (No idea how they'd get that to work, but it's interesting.)
