You can't say you promise if it's subject to change.
When you promise to do something, you do it. A promise is not subject to change.
What you have said in the first paragraph of your update is that you will promise everyone anything you like, anything to keep everyone happy but you don't actually have to do anything you promise.
If you promise something, you need to keep it. "[i]Don't make a girl a promise, if you know you can't keep it.[/i]"
