I'm Not Very Good With Arcstrider. Any Tips on using Arc-Staff in PvP?

I'm going to be straight up here, I don't like Arc-Staff (Or Arcstrider as a whole) in PvP. It's great in PvE, it does crowd control far better than Bladedancer did. But when it comes to PvP, I think if we put a Year 3 Destiny 1 Bladedancer and an Arcstrider in the same series of PvP situations the Bladedancer would be more successful in all of them. That being said, we have Arcstrider in D2 and Bladedancer isn't coming back so I want to try and get better with it and hopefully I'll begin to like it. I've been using the bottom tree, and using dodges to get close to enemies (and occasionally the slam attack) but I never really see any success in this. At least one of these 3 things always happen to me when I use Arc-Staff: 1. I kill a person and get teamshot to death before I can dodge again 2. The team just backs up and teamshot me to death (or run if it's just 1 person) 3. I use my arc-staff as a way to distract the enemy team so my team can get the drop on them. I was also wondering how to challenge a FoH when you're both using your supers. Every time I challenge one I die before I can either hit the again or back off because of the aftershock. If anyone has some tips to best use the Arc-staff super then please let me know.

  • I’m working on a guide for arcstrider but here is a quick tip. Buff your neutral game as much as possible. Unfortunately the arc strider super is the worst in the game for this one simple reason: it gets defeated by all other supers in a 1v1 scenario. For this reason, you need to make sure that your neutral game is very strong. I like to use shinobus vow with skip grenades, but you can also use the foe tracer or the stompees. Regarding the super, be very mindful of what other supers are currently active in the game by looking at the top of the screen. If you see some has their super, then don’t pop yours. Its almost always best to wait. The last tip is to pop the super when your opponent is cornered. Don’t use it a mile away and come running in. Pop it when they are stuck in a hallway or room and then manœuvre yourself in using the dodge. Nope this helps.

  • The biggest advantage you have during the Arcstaff Super is your unpredictability. You have quite a few tools to move in different directions quickly and deal damage. Try to never charge a target directly. Dodge diagonally, quick jumps plus aerial spin attacks in other directions, and your ground slam from above are all good ways to avoid getting shot. Use terrain cover and try engaging around corners from height. Gain height by jumping high before turning the corner, aerial spin to close a little distance while prepare your aim for a slam. Then slam, dodge, light attacks. One more tool is your AoE combo. Two light attacks and a heavy cause you to do a fairly large cone attack which can hit enemies who might think they’re out of range. I’ve never found the singular heavy attack to be viable, so I’d avoid it if I were you. Against a Striker, your options are really limited. Your advantage there is the duration of the recovery from their slam animation. Once they slam, your window of attack opens. Initiate by using your aerial slam and quickly combo into light attacks. Hopefully you’ll kill him before he can finish another slam. I hope this is helpful. Go disintegrate some baddies for us! :)

  • Either tree, this aint about the perks this is about your skill as the wielder you get me? Find your target and strafe towards them tapping dodge continuously until you are within about three guardians dead on the floor next to eachother length, then press R1 twice to do a combo, this'll kill your intended target avoiding damage and if there is another player behind push the walk direction towards them while pulling off the second r1 then press R2 to pull off a palm combo. If there are multiple enemies spread apart, get high up and slam down to surprise them, dodge around them becomming a harder target while hitting them when in range.

  • The bottom tree is the best choice for pvp, my tactic for using this against one or more players is utilizing the skip grenade as a distraction. The skip grenade can travel farther and be used around corners so it gives you a great option to force your enemy to dodge it. Before you enter the area where your enemy is throw your skip grenade to get them to focus on dodging and less on were your approaching them from, it should give you an opening to enter and keep dodging side to side to get closer and kill one. If there are more than one don't go to the next enemy right away since they most likely noticed you and can easily kill you before you get close. Also don't run straight to your enemy, your not a striker Titan, try your best to utilize your surroundings as cover as you get closer.

  • It requires the most skill out of all the subclasses, you have to use your dodge as well as your attacks selectively to make you hard to hit. You should never use this if your not at full or close to full health. The blast combo can one shot any super so you have to time that perfectly. Against the striker try to set them up so that they are running straight to you then perform the blast combo to hit him with the blast as they run into range. It’s not meant to roam the map for multiple kills. The subclass itself is built around aggressive play style, so when your opponent tries to play aggressively against you to counter your aggressiveness you pop the super as a trump card.

  • Combos mean nothing in PvP since players die from one hit anyway. This isn't tekken.

As someone probably already said before I did, combos mean nothing in PvP considering you can die in one hit from super. Plus you're better off using Golden Gun or tether instead of Poledancer. Speaking of Poledancer and this may be a bit off topic but random. Bungie please give them blink?

      • You need to cover ground- b,b Roll out with a jumping slam- a,RT Honestly though, unless you catch a group flatfooted, Golden Gun is the way to go.

        • Tip 1: Never stop dodging Tip 2: Learn to utilize the combos Tip 3: Use Radian Flux. Seriously, hands down the best Arcstrider exotic.

Stick with the basic 2 swipe combo. If you have the high ground, utilize the heavy ground slam to close the distance and wipe out a group of enemies close together. Enemies usually panic and freeze up when you land in front of them. Use either basic or force push combo. For roaming supers, try to get close and use the blade beam (used at the end).
