Bungie had a choice.
a) leave raids untouched for non-DLC players and making the irrelevant to DLC players
or
b) raise raid levels up for DLC players so all their content remains relevant.
seems like they went with the smart choice by keeping the game enjoyable for the paying customers and removing prestige for the casuals.

or c) make a NEW raid or similar endgame content (remember Prison of Elders) to go along with the new content and light level The DLC should fit into the current game instead of the current game fitting into it.

Raid Layers are in there way. remember TDB? VoG was pointless. HoW? you could still use VoG/CE, but you had to do other endgame stuff to raise the light. then TTK... VoG/CE/PoE were all useless because you couldn't infuse. RoI came and still the first 3 endgame activities were neglected. it wasn't until AoT (3 months before D2) that all the content was relevant to players that had been spent $100 on DLC.

Yes I think that last thing you said is the point. Bungie does exactly what they need to do to maximize profits...period. Not having a new raid was lazy and stupid but ok let's just talk about what you just said. Sure, VoG, PoE all the old raids became irrelevant over time because you out leveled them. That was a financial decision made by Bungie. How convenient that they bring all raids up to current light just a couple of months before D2 releases. That was just a financial decision to keep players invested. The point is that they have the capabilities to keep a version of the raid as-is for those that don't buy the DLC, along with a prestige mode at 305 light, and ALSO add a CoO version with new drops that is only accessible to those with the DLC. Throughout D1 they had several versions of strikes, several versions of the PoE content that was gated depending on what you had accomplished or whatever. They could easily do this but they won't because of $. No other explanation. There is no reason to take something out of the game if it is still relevant to some players, but that's exactly what they have done. The difference here and when they did it in Destiny 1 like with VoG and TTK is that those came with their own content. You weren't buying the DLC to do a higher light version of the same shit, again.
