CoO Honest Review: No Salt Needed

To start I have been highly critical of Bungie and their decision making processes for well over two months now. That being said. I want to set all that aside and focus mainly on just this DLC the Curse of Osiris and the changes it has ushered into the Destiny 2 world. First the campaign, while short I think I ran through the story mode and the following 3 adventures and then the one Heroic Mission "The Runner" to get my Hunter into the Prophecies stage with Brother Vance. I've ran 4 Heroic Strikes and many Public Events and completed world challenges. I have not done Nightfall or Raid, but I am aware of the loot dropping in such events. That's where I am at...just so everyone who cares to read knows that I have absorbed a good bit of content in my 6 to 7 hours of gameplay. 1. It looks beautiful...we stopped a couple of times in the campaign just to take in the scope of it all. Big beautiful skyboxes and Mercury in the past is beautiful. The Cabal Strike when crossing the red/orange bridge over the Vex milk waterfalls....crazy visuals. *Note* I don't think we have ever had an issue with the visuals...always awe inspiring. 2. The story was good...not great. Osiris is an interesting character from the start, but the story seemed rushed and cobbled together with some serious plot holes. It took Osiris Eons to crack the code to enter the Infinite Forrest, but Ikora could do it in one single try. C'mon Bungie! *Spoilier* While Osiris is cool at first and seems like a serious badass in the end when he removes his bandanna he is really Papa Smurf in Guardian Form! C'mon Bungie #2!!!! I enjoyed my time with the story this time...it's only going to annoy me my 2nd and 3rd time through because those plot holes are going to be even more prevalent. 3. The Infinite Forrest adventures are tedious and super repetitive no matter what enemy you are facing. Just burn through them most people by day 2 are just running through them killing gate daemons and sprinting on. I like to kill enemies for the xp and I just like blowing stuff up. Eh, whatcha gonna do! The heroic versions are just tougher with more yellow bar enemies. ***Major Note*** Adventure "Bug in the System"...actually fun ending with a horde mode style defend the fortress. My fire team kept talking about yeah this is kinda cool and we lost our focus for a second and several thrall got past our line of defense and got inside, a total red alert moment that had us scrambling for a minute to flush them out and when we got back into position we were getting a bit overrun. ****BUNGIE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE FLUSHED OUT INTO SOMETHING GREAT**** 4. Vendors, Forging, and Quality of Economy. I put these together because I think they all kinda fit into how re-playable Destiny 2 is becoming. THE GRIND FOR HARDCORE HOBBYIST IS BACK!!! The grind to unlock forging weapon from Brother Vance is great...I have 2 unlocked already and working on a 3rd. I've seen people griping because they only had one or two unlocked in their first 6 hours of play. Seriously, that's nearly 20% of the weapons from the forge on Day one and really you probably only spent 2 to 3 hours of actually grinding for those since the rest of our time was spent in the Story Missions. We asked for the grind back and Bungie delivered. Hooooraaayyy Beer! Next, the ornament system for Major NPC's and completing challenges to unlock said ornaments....heck yeah. I want to roll that over to put that cool ornament on my Hunter...oh and it's account wide unlocks...so if I unlock the legs on my Hunter it unlocks them on my Titan and Warlock as well, sweet...it's grindy, but not stupid grindy. So, no matter what your doing on any character it's benefitting the others in the process...NICE TOUCH. Now the Token Economy...while many people still hate it and I'm not a huge fan of it either because I feel like we are in a 2017 arcade...there's no actual games to play it's just a ton of gambling machine that are kinda stacked against you to get tickets (tokens) to turn into some 19 yr old behind a counter who doesn't care what we get as long as we hurry up so she can go back to texting her loser boyfriend Derrick...uggh omg! Anyway the more tokens given out seem better for world challenges and payout is better in Heroic Strikes 6 to 8 tokens in general it feels better, but taking out High Priority targets still only give out 1...in this new economy that should be at least a twofer. 5. Final thoughts. I like it. I know if anyone reads this is going to call me a shill, fanboy, sellout or whatever. It doesn't matter to me. Feel free...do what you want. I've been super critical of Bungie and I was during the story missions...because of storytelling and believability of it was at times laughable, but the grinding I did after all that was said and done. I began to have fun...I smiled, I laughed, while playing with my fire team. I was stoked seeing numbers on armor to unlock and to see my progression to get the things I was going for and to think Masterworks is coming in a week with more changes and other things to grind. Iron Banner Challenges and finished the sets I couldn't complete. The addition of a Raid Layer and it's ornaments to grind. This is what has been missing for the hardcore hobbyist like me who wants to complete sets and log on with a plan in mind and assembling a team to go and take it on. It's starting to feel like Destiny in the PvE sense. 6. PvP - I've seen the Exotic Trace Rifle in videos. I'll do some crucible to get my milestones and to get a fix, but as far as the Crucible goes it's a hot mess right now, but in my opinion it's always been broken P2P connections is never the way to go and in a ranked match as much people have cheated in trials and Iron Banner's past. SMH. I don't know...it's fun at time when I'm with a team, but solo is painful. That's my honest no salt needed or really felt...I like what I saw I liked most of the new weapons I got...after playing I feel it's actually a step in the right direction...not an assumption of a right step. There is still plenty to fix, but for now I feel better about that $100 dollar pre order. Hux
