After 3 Years of Defending Bungie, I Never Thought I'd Say This... (3 Year Destiny Veteran)

Hey all - Pwnzor here, Kill Confirmed represent. Frankly I feel strange. The Destiny 2 experience seems for the first time ... hopeless. I have defended Bungie for 3 years on every fault. Now.. I just don't know. After the Prestige Raid yesterday, I had one of those stare towards the sky with Crawling in my Skin playing as I question my commitment for the last 2 months - 3 years. For the first time ever, I feel Bungie has won - making their $60-110 buy in per player, and not giving the players what was so proudly delivered in the years of D1. Game is bought, with expansion pass, and the $10 starter Eververse package, and thats all they wanted it seems --- which makes sense from a business standpoint. Maximum profit for minimal effort. I will still continue to play, mostly Trials and PVP cause I enjoy them a lot in any game, but there are real issues that need to be addressed. [b]Quick Backstory (slight boasting to give you perspective):[/b] I never thought I'd see the day where I made a post like this. I have played Destiny in its entirety since its inception in 2014. I was one of the first 50 Fireteams to complete Vault of Glass, Crotas End, POE 32/34/35 (night 1 of HOW), Kings Fall. I was the Worlds First Titan to Solo Crota (just google Mr Pwnzor). I have gone Flawless as many times as I've stepped into Trial to try. I have completed the D2 raid on 2 separate accounts over 15 times. I have collected every exotic in all versions of the game. [u][b]NOW GETTING INTO THE ISSUES[/b][/u] On a given forum, there is normally a complaint about a few things that could use tuning. When you isolate those issues, they can be defended by a majority of hardcore players. When you compile the list and really stare at it, it's really just not something I can defend. If the technology and innovation for the below existed in D1, why have so many things have been left out of D2? [b]"It's Crazy to Me” (My gripe with D2):[/b] [1] It's crazy to me that Power Level doesnt matter [2] It's crazy to me that they removed Weapon Rolls for replayability [3] It's crazy to me that 90% of Guns are useless regardless of [2] [4] It's crazy to me that Armor Ornaments no longer exist in game [5] It's crazy to me that Sparrow collection comes entirely from Eververse [6] It's crazy to me that Shader collection (less Trials and Raid) comes entirely from Eververse [7] It's crazy to me that Ship collection comes entirely from Eververse [8] It's crazy to me Token Systems become irrelevant after playing for 2 days [9] It's crazy to me that there are no Strike Specific Loot Options [10] It's crazy to me that there isn't a 6v6, 3v3, or additional PVP options [11] It's crazy to me that there are no Secret Exotics or Easter Eggs (Oryx Basketball Court) [12] It's crazy to me that Exotics look unique, feel unique, but do not act unique [13] It's crazy to me that Max Power Level can be reached with never doing endgame [14] It's crazy to me that there are no means of World Collection (Ghost, Calcified Frags, etc). [15] It's crazy to me that Raids give no incentive for replay-ability (seriously - I used to farm the SH!T out of raids for Ships, Raid Coveted Exotics, Shaders, etc.) [16] It's crazy to me that Vault of Glass is 3 years older and yet seems 3 years ahead of Leviathan [17] It's crazy to me that Crotas End is 3 years older and yet seems 3 years ahead of Leviathan [18] It's crazy to me that Kings Fall is 2 years older and yet seems 2 years ahead of Leviathan [19] It's crazy to me that Hard Mode (and frankly Normal Mode) Raid are simply for Vanity [20] It's crazy to me that Leviathan Raid is a Gameshow and not a Raid [21] It's crazy to me that Factions do not always exist [22] It's crazy to me that I have 2700 Legendary Shards and nothing to spend them on [23] It's crazy to me that no one looks forward to Xur [24] It's crazy to me that there is no arena like POE [25] It's crazy to me that there is no open world arena like Court of Oryx/Archons Forge [26] It's crazy to me that Sparrow Racing isnt in the game [27] It's crazy to me that Sparrows cant do backflips like the Hotwheels Sparrow TDB model [28] It's crazy to me that the meta leans towards 1 path 1 subclass for each class [29] It's crazy to me that Planetary Materials are useless [30] It's crazy to me that gear doesn't require being upgraded (took legit 3 seconds) [31] It's crazy to me that Trials isnt even hard this year [32] It's crazy to me that Public Events, Lost Sectors, Chest Looting, Adventures - are all useless [33] It's crazy to me that this Game is so casual it has driven all of my best mates away [34] It's crazy to me that I will continue to play with hopes of it becoming better [35] It's crazy to me that I can even see myself playing a different game soon, only 1 month after release. TL:DR The technology and innovation for the above existed in D1, why have so many things have been left out of D2. If it is a means of having people pay for more Content, then that is just wrong. Bungie has made the game too casual in an attempt to cater to everyone. Even the casuals find it too casual. Hoping there is a light at the end of this Dark, Dark tunnel. I can guarantee one thing - if there isn't a raid being release in the December DLC, alongside a complete loot system and token system overhaul, then this game is going to die. EDIT: All - just wanted to say thank you all for reading and providing your comments, concerns, and criticisms. We have been top trending for almost 24 hours. Trials has been canceled since this post (crazy?). I will continue to play PVP but let’s hope bungie makes the little changes we would enjoy so much! EDIT 2: Guardians, we’ve reach 1000 upvotes which is truly something else! I wish I could respond to all of your questions and concerns but there are just so many posts now. I’ll give some quick general responses here —�— I think pvp is fun and don’t have many issues (I know many do), I think selling old features as DLC is cash grabbing, I love destiny still just want the inherently needed changes, population should not be dropping this fast, any comprehensive MMORPG in history has expanded its world not shrunk it regardless if they dumbed it down, Trials being canceled makes me sad; all being said I am GOING TO STAY HOPEFUL. [b]ADDITIONALLY -[/b] I have put a job application in with Bungie. As an avid video gamer and dedicated player since Halo 1, with professional experience in WOW and other titles, I feel I could help the team. I am a mechanical and control systems engineer doing project management in New York City currently. My background and professional experience certainly makes me qualified. This has always been a dream of mine - I haven’t given up yet, so maybe I can help. Hope Luke Smith or Cozmo see this and spread the word lol.

  • I'm sad to say you're right on every point. After playing Destiny nonstop since I first bought it in late 2015, I feel lost. My instinct when I pick up a controller is to play Destiny, but now I stop and remember that there's no reason for me to play anymore. I'm playing a bunch of other games to pass the time until the DLC, but they're not Destiny.

  • I think its clear after 3 years of Destiny, the dev who designed VoG killed every other raid after it because it was so good.

  • I understand where you are coming from... I have over 250 hard mode raid completions in D1... However it seems like you are having issues with things that came to D1 after vanilla launch and was added to the gm later. I personally don't have many issues with is there and not there from D1, I feel like those things are coming back in 1 form or another and don't blame them for not putting all that stuff back in D2 at launch. I completely agree with point 1, but point 2 I dont agree with since most people only kept 1 version of the gun in the 1st place especially due to space, I don't agree 90% of guns are useless, I think the Kinetic/energy format opens up drastically different play styles and its not like people varied that much from there normal load out not withstanding there where alot more weapons to choose from when you consider 4 different raid, 4 trails, and strike and other activity weapon load outs to choose from. Sparrows? Who cares how big your collection is, you can only ride one at a time and you have 4 types to choose from, I couldn't care less about having 6 different sparrows with 160 speed that spawn instantly... I just want the exotic version and don't really care that there all at eververse b/c I would prefere them to be all in one place to be honest. No to mention sparrow racing is a special event that will come, so why complain that its not there at launch when it took years to get in the 1st place? I agree with 8, 9, and 10... Not sure what you mean by "secret exotics" but if I personally couldnt aquire it I really didnt care about it (I assume youre talking about warcliff in D1) same goes for easter eggs, they did nothing towards gameplay. As far as factions go... I kinda like what they did b/c it made the factions mean more and made it exciting for a couple of hrs at least when they virtually meant nothing in D1, I feel it could have been fleshed out a little better but I like the direction its going. I also don't agree in the slightest about the Leviathan raid. I think its a great raid that brings something new to the table and doesnt function like all the previous raids. I like the "game show" aspect of it b/c it makes sense in the context of the raid itself cause where being tested, what better way to do that then with deadly games. I also love the concept of the underbelly which is also vastly different way to move around the raid that we have never exp b4. I personnally feel that most people who complain about this raid have that nostalgic bug, where its always hard for anything new to compete with what was familiar and memorable from your 1st time attempting it and making memories with your buddies that you went though the struggle with. (B4 everyone just waited for buddies/youtubers to complete the raid and watched the best strats to beat it). I agree with 22 and 33 but most of the other stuff is complaining b/c all the things that took years to make its way to D1 is not in D2 and that argument is non sense in the 1st month of release. Most people only have a couple hrs to play daily, and the people whom are complaining is b/c they have already put in 2x's to 3x's the amount of time than the average player is able and now having a issue that there isn't anything to do. I purposely took my time with D2 for that very reason, and I still have twice the amount of time that friends with 8-9 hr jobs and have kids can possibly play. its hard to make content for eveyone, we all know that, but look at the larger picture, most likely you did a month worth of gameplay possibly in the 1st week or 2 of release and thats y people are having so many issues with it. My biggest gripe is the prestige raid/nightfall in relation to trails b/c they both represent the highest challenge in each respective game mode yet trails is far more rewarding than PvE activities. The rewards for prestige at this time are a joke, a virtual slap in the face for completing these activities. I have a big problem with this especially considering the dups I get in this game, I dont even wanna attempt another one after just getting a golden crown, skin for shotgun, chest and leg armor (which is in no way special, just like all other armor of same class, it just looks different). I personally feel there is no reason to prestige the raid, its meaningless and doesnt do anything other than make the raid far more difficult for less b/c you get no weapons what so ever, even reg raid weapons. After 12(normal)+1(prestige)=13 completions across all characters since launch and havent even gotten a full set or normal raid armor for any of my class or the hand cannon either b/c I keep getting the samethings over and over.

      • I have yet to see all the bad aspects of this game that everyone brings up. There are a lot of things that are somewhat bothersome that quality of life hotfixes could resolve but I still don’t get all the complaining. I enjoy this game because I play for fun and with friends. Gives me the same feeling destiny 1 did when I played it during those first months and I’m excited to see where it will go.

      • I love that this post has so many upvotes. I also love that Bungie waited until Twitchcon to provide a glimmer of hope for this game. Most of all I love that changes to this game won’t come until the December DLC drop. Faction Wars, Iron Banner, every other disappointment in this game will be preserved until then. Why fix a game now when you can let it die off completely.

        • Honestly mate reading this, its exactly what i feel too. I can't even express in words how much i dislike Destiny2 right now. Aside from the first week and a half where i put in around 80+ hours of game time (Mainly because my work had some college hopefuls doing work experience there so i wasn't required as much. Only been working there 2 years compared to all my other staff mates on their 5th and 6th years), any way back to the point, after the first 2 ish weeks of non stop playing, i only played maybe 3 hours a week, and it was only to do prestige nfs on each character and help some clan members through it. Now nearly 2 months later, i log in like each saturday, pick up some clan engram rewards, maybe visit xur to see if he has nighthawk, then i log back off and go play either Dark souls 3 (recently bought, still noobish af) or just log into destiny 1 and enjoy messing around in patrols. As seen in your post one of the earliest points, there are no random perk rolls, and that offers no differences or replayability that i got used to in D1, for instance, the undying mind strike (im xbx btw so having that as nf was fkn amazing) i grinded hours after hours, run after run, coffee and red bulls after coffee and redbulls to even get a semi decent drop of imago loop. (perks on my only semi decent one were Reactive reload, extended mag and fire fly). In D2 there is nothing like that, sure if i didnt get better devils to drop from one package, il just run as a squad again for another hour, 6 packages later bam i have 2. There is nothing unique anymore about legendaries, why should i run pvp trials with a legendary or even an exotic sniper, when my blue one is better, Not like there are power level limits that stop me doing less damage now are there. Point is i stuck through Destiny 1 through thick n thin, 3 years of it sometimes only playing pvp in one week, sometimes messing around trying to speedrun with my clan, or just friends in raids and pve activities, but at least there was something to do is D1 to keep me playing. Yes after HoW lost its hype and its burns it got dry, but Trials kept my regular D1 group together, always grinding sick snipes, or shotgun or hc sprees to 1up each other. Jesus christ man after How dried up i spent a entire week just looking around for hidden ghosts, glitching into ps exclusive strikes to grab em, bloody killing 500 ogres over and over took forever. But i was proud when i saw mu grimoire score had gone up, i was proud that at the end of Destiny 1 that yes i completed a chapter in my life, where i played a great game, that i met some amazing people, that i made friends or joined clans with or who are now some great RL friends that i hang out with on a daily basis. But This is 2017, not 2014 no longer do i have pals who will stay up till early morning hours to grind out the raid or pvp endgame because at the end of the day im grinding for a chest piece that makes my hunter have some dangling string over his chest, im no longer grinding to the perfect roll on the ill will, il get my reward same as any trials guy, by handing in tokens. Not to say D1 rng was the greatest, but at least it made playing the damn nightfall over and was worth it to me to get a different roll on my weapon or armor. And see now i have rambled alot when all i really wanted to say was, While D2 lasted me a good month of playability, the core of is game has not made it as enjoyable as i would have liked, and while i will still log in every saturday morning for xur and my engrams, i can't honestly see me playing this game like its predecessor until maybe the dlc this december comes out, then perhaps i can have another month of excitement then. Well this is MLG Fr1dge's story thanks for reading if you got this far (honestly if you have, well done my grammar and spellings were disastrous, but still thanks 4 reading) and this is me signing on D2 for a while.           • BUMP UP VOTE EVERYTHING If you told 22 year old me while I was loving D1 that I would be over D2 in a month I would have laughed in your face, but it's the sad truth. I hope this game makes a comeback, but it needs so much work. The fun factor isn't there at all. Iron banner isn't the same anymore. Strikes aren't the same anymore. Replaying story missions isn't truly an option. Trials isn't the same. Crucible as a whole took about 12 steps back. Raiding just doesn't seem worth it. [u]Like that first time playing crucible and getting melted by a Vex and just going I WANT THAT[/u] It's gone. It's all gone. I don't play with too many people, but I have 3 or 4 who RELIGIOUSLY played D1 and they're all bored and onto the next game. Just glad I didn't buy in and get the Expansion pack. Balls in your court Bungie. Now you'll have to earn it.

            • Well said, my exact thougts. Except one problem you didn't list is how they punish people for having 3 characters of the same class. I get they want you to play all classes but I never used my warlock or hunter in D1 and was planning on having 3 titans for D2. Hope you get the job, maybe well have someone who can save destiny

Bungie: Season 2 coming with 2 new guns and some new shaders Me: *Install Destiny 2 and buys some silver* -- Next day -- Me: I'm so angry about this game! I will uninstall this game! Bungie: DLC1 with 1 Story mission (on the same planet in the same map you already know) Me: *Install Destiny 2, buys Season pass and some silver* -- The same day -- Me: I'm so angry... -- One year later -- Me: Now im really angry! After 2 DLC and countles Seasons, I'm done! Bungie: DLC3 with the Darkness aka the Takens big Brother Me: *Buys Destiny The Darkness Collector Edition containing Destiny 2, Season Pass, a Bag with darkness (you can't see it when its bright) and the Darkness DLC* -- Some weeks later -- Me: Destiny is sooooooo awesome Bungie: *starts releasing free updates and record books*

                              • I can agree, except for random weapon rolls. I'd lobby for a more expanded weapon mod system. I don't think I would quit playing completely if it came back, but PvP would be off the table for me for a while. You've got great points though, so have a like.

                              • Buying this game and uploading it onto the Xbox I couldn't wait. But even the beta got boring quick. I remember my brother asking if d2 was worth getting and I said yeah course it is there is so much to do..... Then I got to max light and quickly realised half the stuff to do is irrelevant. I have now got the remastered dragons dogma game and haven't even bothered with destiny. It lasted just under a month for me. D1 lasted years I always came back to it. It's a shame. The lost sectors are a waste but a good idea. Why not make 1 of those heroic a week or something. Nightfall timers are ok but tbh people like to solo these things and not rush them. Prestige raid. Lol I'm not even bothering with it tbh. I agree with alot of people when they say this game is guna die quickly.
