A Note From A Humble Guardian...

Let me start off by saying I Love Destiny, been there since day 1, and I Love Bungie. However since the release of Destiny 2 I've grown...disenchanted. I feel like I'm in a marriage thats lost the excitement. Somewhere along the line Bungie took a step backward, from the big things like making customization a chore and the loss of random gear rolls to simple obvious things like being able to infuse gear from my titan with gear from my hunter or mass deleting shaders. I'm feeling that incomplete feeling I got at the end of vanilla Destiny. Here's my problem GLIMMER, SHADERS, AND MODS Glimmer is easy to get but everything costs WAY TOO MUCH. 2500 just to get 1 mod, which you absolutely cannot get anywhere but the gunsmith or Evervese, you're killing me Smalls. 15000 glimmer for a ship shader, are you kidding me?. Shaders are a mess, its just another weak incentive to keep playing; its not fun trying to get them, its annoying. I like the mod system but they are way to hard to get, and when I do get them, 90% of the time, they aren't the ones I want. How hard would it be for Banshee to let me pick 4 mods I want every time I rank up with him? All I can imagine is at some point they finished this game and took a look at it and realized that it wouldn't last a month the way it was, so they jacked up the cost of everything a hundred fold, made shaders consumables and made mods specific to each piece of gear. IRON BANNER I used to Love Iron Banner mainly because it pushed you to try and reach max light and also because it was one of the few endgame events where everyone could get in on the action and you could get high level new gear for competing. Now I can barely get 3 pieces of different armor without spending days to play it. The weapons are now useless reskins that you yourselves have made obsolete with static stats on weapons. I miss having my ass handed to me in Iron Banner. It made me better at the crucible and taught me to not just go running into battle head first. THE CRUCIBLE Ruined. Its the only word that comes to mind and really the worst thing I feel you've done. You took something great, an online arena that was catered to customization and freedom, and you jammed packed it into 2 awful game archetypes: quickly match with other players who will 80% of the time destroy me or wait an extra 4 minutes to play with people of my skill level but without all the maps or modes I enjoy. What are you thinking? Who thought this was a good idea? Destiny 2 needs every map on every mode and you should be able choose from a variety of the modes you wanna play. Back to your static weapon rolls, in time did you not see that eventually everyone in the game will be using the same gear. Have you learned nothing from the reign of Thorn and Gjallarhorn? EXOTICS Way too easy to get and half of them useless, Exotics used to be coveted as the be all end all of gear. Used to be if you saw someone with Thorn you respected their skill. Now? Now if I see someone with Rat King or Legend of Acrius, which ARE the 2 hardest exotics to get in Destiny 2 and the only ones that require any semblance of skill to obtain, I think "Oh they spent an hour online with their friends" or "Hey! They ground the raid for an inexplicably, unesscesqary amount of time". There's no skill involved in getting an exotic anymore just time. COLLECTIONS Where'd are they? Seemed to think it was a good idea for Destiny, why not Destiny 2? Luke Smith said in an interview that he thinks Destiny is moving towards becoming a "collection" type of game. Fine, if thats the case, why wouldn't you keep collections? You can't tell me you're doing away with them, because theres a collections tab in the vault for Emblems, Emotes , and Exotics, Ships and Sparrows used to be like weapons you saw someone with one you wanted and you messaged them "Hey where'd you get that". I did it all the time in Destiny a lot of my friends list has stemmed from those kinds of conversations. Its almost embarrassing that now no one starts those conversations with me or vice versa because we already know: grind the living hell out of bright engrams. STRIKES NIGHTFALLS (AKA GOD MODE/BABY STRIKES) Dear Bungie, Do you hate us or Love us way too much? I can't tell because when I play the Arms Dealer Nightfall I almost feel bad for the enemies I shoot in the face, but when I played the Exodus Crash Nightfall I wanted to cry tears of blood. Sincerely, Your Guardian P.S. Hey its not all negative... THINGS I LOVE TRIALS AND THE RAID Trials and the Raid took a step in the right direction... there I said it. Basing a match off power levels is a good idea when its a public venue like Iron Banner but not for the a setting like trials. I can't tell you how many times I almost threw a brick at my tv because I was 1 win away from the lighthouse and some higher level tank trashed my team. My sadness knew no bounds, I like trials now, more players and less stress. As for the Raid, I gotta say its fun, real fun, and I can't wait till challenges come out. THE LOOK, THE FEEL, THE GLORY I wasn't ready Bungie, I really wasn't. This game blew me away with its graphics, sound, and story. A times I log in just because I miss the way this looks and sounds. I nearly cried at the end of the campaign when I got to do a victory lap around the new tower as I saw all my old friends had survived, even that engram hoarding bastard Rahool, and with the glorious Tower theme playing to boot. All this coupled with the sight of the newly awoken Traveler left me in awe and that feeling... that feeling reminded me why I Love this game so much. I'll never give up on you Bungie. Your Humble Guardian

  • This is an excellent post! My significant other and I have bonded while playing raids, crucible, Iron Banner, Strikes, Nightfalls, etc. in Destiny 1. Even when we'd played Widow's Court or Alak-Hul for the 50th time, we still had fun. Everything was just downright enjoyable. It was a blast! Yeah, we would get our asses handed to us occasionally in Crucible and not all of our raids were successful, yet, even the worst times in D1 felt better than the best times in D2. I just got a Better Devils (finally!) this past week. I was super stoked! Well, to be honest, I was only excited for about 5 minutes. I can look back to times in D1 like beating Oryx. That high lasted a whole week! Or my first exotic, The Last Word. I -blam!-ing loved the shit out of that gun. Or my first solo nightfall. D2 sucks and we are both really sad about it.
