What I think Will Happen in D2's Expansions (and D3 to some extent)

Edit 1: Because a lot of people are mistaking these as the first 2 dlcs, I'll make it clear here: I am talking about the MAJOR expansions that will be coming out. Akin to TTK and RoI. NOT the Osiris and Rasputin dlcs we will get within year 1. (Sorry if this is a double post. I am unsure if the first posted at all) So I've been thinking about what the future of Destiny 2 holds for us and have come up with a very possible theory on what D2's expansions and consequently D3 story will contain. We know that the darkness is the big grand enemy of Destiny and that we will most likely be unable to fend it off by ourselves. This is why I believe that the expansions (year 2 and 3, not the Osiris and Rasputin ones) will have us attempting to ally ourselves with the fallen, and possibly the taken/hive or vex. The Fallen: Most people have always speculated that an alliance with the fallen is incredibly likely and I do too. Variks allied himself with us, and so did the wolves until Skolas came along. And in one mission in D2, if you help a captain fight a knight he will not attack you and give what he was actively STOPPING you from taking. So I think that in expansion 1 we will meet with Uldran (who is probably leading the new united fallen). And by helping him find the Awoken Queen he will in turn ally himself and his fallen with us. This way, we will have access to the Fallen's large fleet of Ketchs and Skiffs (the city lacks any sort of organized fleet of ships) and large amount of versatile ground troops (which again, we lack. Guardians are more like small strike forces). The Taken/Hive: This may seem strange but stay with me here. We already know that Savathun is trying to or already has become Oryx 2.0. We obviously don 't want that. So there are 2 possibilities that I have come up with. 1. We fly down to Saturn to Oryx's body where Savathun may try to siphon any remaining power to solidify herself as the Taken Queen. We will actually have to DEFEND Oryx's body from her taken/hive forces in order to prevent her from filling the power vacuum. By doing this, we will in turn take Oryx's place or at the very least place ourselves a position in which we will be able to control a small portion of taken/hive forces. By doing this we will be able to teleport forces in a hurry instead of have to fly troops to where they need to go. 2. A section of the hive rebel from Savathun's rule (much like Alak Hul) and stay leaderless or simply loyal to Oryx. Then by us defeating Savathun they ally with us due to the sword logic dictating how powerful we are or just by us aiding them against Savathun's hive. The Vex: This one is a bit more of a long shot but it is a possibility in case we don't ally with the taken/hive, The vex may see the coming darkness from the Traveler's awakening and reason that their best chance for survival is by creating a temporary alliance with the beings who they can't simulate and have yet to beat so far; us. The vex will serve the same purpose as the taken/hive which is them being able to instantly teleport to wherever we need to go. You may notice that I didn't mention the cabal and that is for a reason. Calus is heavily implied to be wanting to work with us in the face of the coming darkness, so much so that I find it hard to believe that he will be used in an expansion. Calus will most likely join this alliance we have created in D3 to supply us with what we and the other races lack: large scale, heavy military support. Having the Cabal as allies will grant us access to a marching, proper army. One that specializes in large scale battles with heavy hitting weapons and tactics. Those are my thoughts on what would happen. If you see any inconsistencies or flaws in my argument please point them out. Or if you find any evidence to support this crackpot theory, please post that as well.

  • Cabal and Fallen as potential allies? 100% Possible. We've already proven that we can ally with the House of Judgement, and we may yet learn about Emperor Calus' motivations, but as a species who actually cares about survival, I'd think the Cabal could be reasoned with. Vex? Unlikely. We don't understand their goals enough to create an alliance, and nearly everything we DO know implies that the Vex don't give one iota of a fvck about us, the Traveler, or anything else for that matter. They are focused on assimilating and integrating themselves into the very fabric of reality. They exist both outside and within the bonds of time and space as we know them. I seriously doubt they're concerned with what happens in our single of perhaps many millions of timelines. Hive? Absolutely not. They are literally agents of death, chaos, and destruction. Their sole purpose is survival by destruction of EVERYTHING they encounter as decreed by Oryx, Xivu Arath, and Savathun themselves. Should they ever stop killing, they would die and worse, weaken the Hive they tithe to. And if the Hive are not sustained, they are consumed and cease to exist, period. Based on what we know of Hive culture, to ally with a lesser race is practically sinful. Even amongst the highest ranks of the Ascendant Hive, they kill each other and call it love. What do you think an "alliance" means to them? lol As interesting as it would be to develop alliances with all the available races and perhaps even play as each races sub-species and experiment with their abilities and what not... I think only the mortal races would realistically view us as allies, regardless of whatever is coming after the Light.

  • Expansion 1 I think that in the first expansion with Osiris, we're going to go to Mercury for the first time for pve and track down Osiris and Saint-14 for infinite knowledge regarding an unknown entity returning, we help Osiris battle the Vex and Taken on Mercury and a rival faction known as the Concordant. We learn more about the last cities past and the traveler. Expansion 2 The second expansion, with Rasputin, will probably take place on Earth, IO, and Nessus. The Warmind senses the travelers Awakening and is coming back online. It attracts everything and summons you to come and protect it as it activates all sorts of golden age tech such as Warsats, bunker installations , and a cashe of Siva on board Exodus Black. Your goal is to protect the warmind and get fully restored while getting sick loot learning about Warminds and the Golden Age

    • I like your ideas and I would love to have a scenario where we fight with the fallen. But honestly I hope they go into more detail on the factions and one of them actually rises to the top of power. That would be cool and it could be a cool lead up to D3. Maybe one of the factions betrays us, who knows but there is a lot of potential with the factions as well as alliances.

        • I found your story ideas compelling and most interesting. I enjoyed reading them and in many ways would like to see Bungie run with something like this, giving more story to the game, and less grinding. I also had some ideas to add some pazazz to Destiny 1 called "Destiny Factions?", it is a little dated, and I needs to update it (might create another forum latter). I have just added a new one called "Ally or Enemy?" (link above) to see which way people would sway if they have the chose. Honestly, I'm a story guy and besides doing a little grinding with my friends once in a while I don't play much of Destiny past the story missions. So seeing something like this could revitalize my interest in the game. Thank you for sharing your views.

          • Here's what I think. Expansion 1, Curse of Osiris: The Vex finally unveil their next big project. However, it is not as easy as you would think to stop it. As you try and fail, you hear a voice. The Vanguard recognize it as Osiris, and your objective changes. You rescue Osiris and he helps you stop the Vex. The rest of this can go three ways, either we leave the Vex helpless by destroying the Collective Mind, the Vex retreat, or Osiris takes control of some/all of the Vex. Expansion 2, Unnamed Warmind DLC: (Based on the leak), The Last City is under turmoil from themselves. As everyone struggles to remember what happened and try and keep the peace at the same time, a familiar face returns to tell you where to find answers. You infiltrate a second Warmind vault and must fight your way through Fallen and Taken to retrieve its information. You think think that's too easy? The Warmind sends out its defenses because it perceives you as a threat, similar to how it did the Iron Lords. You get the info, but Rasputin doesn't like that. You have to disable his systems... leaving Earth utterly defenseless outside of the Guardians and Militias. You return the Last City to peace. Expansion 3, "The Taken Queen": Lo and behold, the theories were correct, Savathun, the Witch Queen is here. As another Taken War is on the horizon, the Vex suddenly make a return. Now they almost seem eager to fight their long-time enemy. You eventually see a Vex Hydra leading Taken Vex against other Taken. It's Quria, Blade Transform. You find Savathun but she pushes you away. She's not going to let you anywhere near her. Soon, you realize that the Vex stop attacking you, and some even let you get deeper into Hive territory. Quria leads you to Savathun at the end of the campaign and you send her into the Ascendant Realm. The raid will end with a cutscene showing Savathun Ascendant forcing Quria to fight you. At the end it will create a relic needed to beat Savathun. I'd like to also think cutscenes between Savathun and Quria would play (similar to the Consul and Ghaul) to show what's going on from within. Expansion 4, Unknown: Something's riling up the Fallen, remnant Red Legion, and Vex. The remaining Hive are scattering to fix the damages done by us. Of course, you're sent to investigate. On your journey, friendly Fallen appear. You just unknowingly stepped into the House of Dusk's lair. You meet up with Uldren, who explains his actions. Even he feels terrified, which isn't like him. You set out to find the Queen with the help of the House of Dusk and you do find her (either dead or whatever theory turns out to be true). She takes control and the Reef starts getting back up to strength. The Fallen become allies with us, they are scared. The Vex stop fighting us and focus on fortifying their defenses. At the very end you see a Fleet of Ships (same from the end credits scene) reaching the Oort Cloud. Destiny 3: The Darkness arrives. All Vex constructs like the Timekeeper activate and the Hive lead the charge. The Fallen fight through their PTSD (I mean, it did destroy their world) and continue to fight, with the knowledge that this may be their last chance to get the Great Machine. The Cabal, now becoming whole again, fight with all their might. The Vex start out neutral, but can't fight us both. They join us once they see us take a Pyramid Ship down. Of course, with a new enemy entirely, their should be a new race. This new race should basically be the opposite of us, more so than the Hive and Taken. Also, they should be powerful as shit. We should fight the Worm Gods, too. With nearly the entire Solar System united under one cause, we fight back against the Deep. How it ends... I don't have anything for that. But hey, just my thoughts.

              • I'm very disappointed in destiny 2. It's a beautiful game but I feel all the magic and mystery has been removed. As well as bounties, quests, white whale weapons, raid gear (that helps in raid), hidden quests, dead ghosts, grimmore score, subclass customization, daily missions and tasks....etc. How could they do this to us? The end of destiny 1 they had all these great ideas, adventures and wonderful quest lines. It took bungie 3 years to fix destiny 1 and it seems they forgot all they learned and didn't listen to anyone that actually played destiny and instead listened to the players who played for 5 minutes complained and quit. What the hell were they thinking. EVERYONE I KNOW FEELS THIS WAY AND MOST ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW GAME TO PLAY. Please list what you miss and let's get bungie's attention so they can please fix this boring game!!! IS THIS EVEN DESTINY ANYMORE???

                • I was 100% certain this would be: Expansion 1: Bungie sells back to us the old style of crucible and strike playlists with scoring, plus several D1 exotics and reskinned gear, plus a half-assed raid Expansion 2: Bungie sells back to us random rolls on gear plus a handful of D1 exotics and an arena mode. Etc etc.

Expansion 1 is Osiris, who is clearly linked to the Vex. Expansion 2 is the Warminds, who are generally linked to the Fallen. Btw, do some simple lore research before theorizing. The Vex and Hive worship the Darkness.

                    Spoilers for post-campaign
DLC 1 will be to do with the Vex, saving Osiris from the place (i forgot the name lmao) will probably give us a raid against a new leader of the Vex, not Atheon because that'll be recycled content DLC 2 will be based around Rasputin, so SIVA may make a return, Nessus will be the new receptacle for the outbreak (prime lul) because it says that Rasputin flung SIVA off to the edge of the solar system, Nessus is a TNO (Trans-Neptunian Object) so yeah DLC 3/4 will have the Hive as it's centerpoint, going deep into Titan to face the monstrosity in the deep and perhaps Savathûn herself, (new raid again?) The Fallen now remain, maybe we go up against the outliers outside the House of Dusk (main house in D2) as they are causing trouble Theres also the Pyramid Ships which are rumoredcto be the Fifth Race, they might appear in the DLC so that's a thing This is just my speculation and doesn't reflect the DLC perfectly
I have wondered what happens if you let the Knight and Captain kill each other, or if it's even possible (I don't have the game yet, so I can't find out myself - just seen videos). The Fallen alliance has been speculated since the Age of Triumph when Grimiore was released stating Uldren left the Reef to unite the Fallen. Judging by their colors, the Captain and his crew are almost certainly from the House of Kings - the last standing Fallen House on Earth. It would serve them well to not combat the Guardians, and instead work with them.
After all, they too witnessed Gary try to steal the Traveler's light and the Traveler killing him for it. Having tried to steal the Traveler back for centuries, they now know their fate for attempting to take light by force. To work alongside humanity in the Second Golden Age would put them in good favor with the Traveler.
However, I do believe there is a possibility that such a Fallen/Humanity alliance would be strictly with the Kings. I have held the theory that the Rasputin DLC will see Uldren and his Fallen attempt to steal or corrupt Rasputin, either to serve the Reef since we have our Traveler awake now, or to use against humanity in retaliation for the loss of his sister. I realize Uldren can still sense her, but at the moment, she is still lost and I imagine he is still angry towards us about it - he would see it as her fate being directly our fault; had we not killed his son, Oryx would have never come to our system. Let us not forget, he never liked us to begin with.

                      • What I KNOW will happen with D2 expansions. Bungie will promise the earth, deliver a cool trailer, talk them up insane amounts...and deliver very little worthwhile original content, and lots of reskins, and lots of elements that we were already used to in D1. Bare bones expansions and MTs are the norm now, and Bungie is no longer a dev that bucks the trend.

                      • Not to sound smart but all of your theories are wrong. Why you ask because bungie lack the ability to come up with a new race for us to fight so if we make alliances with anyone 25% of our enemies have disappeared so just be more vex cabal hive or fallen to fight. I like a lot of what you said but this is copy and paste money grabbing bungie we are on about.

My only issue with this suggestion is that the Vex seem to worship the darkness as was shown with the last mission of vanilla D1. I don't see us working with the Vex as much as they have had moments eg Taken attacking VOG where they didn't actively attack us, it's not like after did VOG and killed the thing they worshipped they are gonna be like hey let's be a team lol. (imagine time travelling guardians) - Endless possibilities and huge plot holes eg stop the golden age from ending. (no more destiny).

                      • Your Fallen alliance plan wouldn't happen in the first expansion, simply because the first expansion is centered around Osiris and Mercury, meaning the Vex are most likely the main focus. I highly doubt the other two would ever happen considering the fact that we've taken down such a prominent figure in the Hive's society so I don't think we'll see them being important at least for a while. And the Vex wouldn't side with us to survive the darkness considering they basically worship it. Don't take my response the wrong way, I'm in no way trying to bash your theories, just giving my take on them. As for the Fallen theory though, I think it could happen. Not only because of what people think Uldren has done, but for another observation I made. The only enemy race in the game who has previously encountered the Traveler in the same manner as we have are the Fallen. All of the enemy races besides them want nothing more than to destroy it (minus Ghaul, he was just power hungry and looking for something to accept him). The Fallen had the Traveler in the same way we do now, but when it left, likely due to the darkness arriving, their home was destroyed much in the same way we experienced a collapse. This led to their nomadic and scavenging nature, and eventually they found the Traveler again. And so far, their excuse to attacking us seems to be nothing more than the thought process of "this thing is ours but now you have it, give it back." TLDR; I agree that the Fallen could become allies because they are so similar to us in the sense that they were once a normal civilization that was thrust into war and chaos following a "collapse" that was caused by the Traveler visiting their world.
