Last night I used my legendary shards to buy duplicate exotics from the collection in my vault, then I dismantled them for materials which I traded in with banshee, it's a pretty good way to get mods and you don't really lose that many shards since you get some back with each exotic you dismantle.

Copy and paste response: You dissemble non-kinetic purple mods and use the new parts to purchase new random Mods. These new Mods have a chance to be kinetic. Hope this helps!

Still doesn't really fix the issue with not being able to get the kinetic mods. The man gist being that there's blue versions of the Energy mods. So you get 3 of those and can make a Purple one. There's no blue versions of the Kinetic mod, so you have to make 2 purple mods, dismantle those, trade components for a weapon mod. Then hope it rolls out Kinetic (which also doesn't seem to be the 1 in 4 chance you'd expect either). Other then that, if you have a preferred Kinetic, you're stuck trying to get one of your limtied Power Rolls to pop up as that, and getting lucky to have it pop with the purple mod already on it. Or throwing away 5/8 of a light level.
