Destiny 2 is Bad - A Long Post From a Long Time Veteran Player

[b]**This is a sub account that I started for D2. My main account psn is Kyllap. For those wondering. [/b] I've been doing some thinking on this whole playing through Destiny 2, and I have to admit that I don't like this game. I feel that it is a shell of what we had with TTK and RoI, up until the last stretch of D1. Let me say that I have played through D2 on 2 characters (both solo and with a team), I have a large clan, I've done all the activities in the game (including flawless trials and the raid), every strike, etc etc. I'm not 'salty' about this or that. I simply think this game isn't what I thought it was and I am hugely disappointed. Let me list some things I don't like and describe why I don't like them. - 4v4 Crucible. When this was announced I thought, 'eh whatever. It'll be interesting and fun.' And it was fun...for a week. And then I started to miss having 6 people in chat in a fireteam dropping supers and capping zones and talking shit. With this 4v4 only, there are only...4 players....lol... It's just a shell of what it was. Just team shooting. Sure you can pull off some plays here and there, but in the end it's just bad. - Enhanced Aim Assist. Is there any skill left in Destiny? Does it even require skill? Take your crosshairs and hover over an enemy and watch what happened when another enemy crosses your path... The gun literally follows them for feet. Yes there was AA in D1, but this feels like Skylanders. - Actual Content. This has been an issue in Destiny since Destiny was Destiny. And it's STILL an issue. The story spans four planets, but is bland and forgettable. The missions don't scale in difficulty with a fireteam so you just blow right through them. I had to play it again solo just to somewhat enjoy it. Which is laughable in a game that promotes group play and clans and teamwork. Then once you get it done there is zero reason to do Lost Sectors and Adventures unless you care about story simply for the story. Which would be ok, but again there are zero rewards. Why wouldn't they incorporate every single one of these side things into quests, or into the story line? In fact where is the quest tab at all?? Nowhere. Because there are like 4 total quests to give you a MIDA and some other bullshit you'll never use. A MIDA?? From year 1 of Destiny?? Jesus man. I don't get it. - Subclasses. The same three. I need not say more. - Trials of MIDA Multi Tool..... Let me say that I actually enjoy 4v4 Trials. I like the Nine concept and I do think the gear and weapons look cool. I even like the horse at the end. What I HATE is that Bungie has created a meta of multi tools in ONE WEEK. If you use anything other than a MIDA and a Uriel's you're out gunned. So everyone uses that and that's it. In one week. And now the endless 'balance' patches begin which will send you on a goose chase for weapons you dismantled long ago because they sucked ass but now they're op! Same old bullshit. - Graphics. Can you believe this?! I'm complaining about the graphics in Destiny. But I'm not talking about the world designs, particle effects, or skyboxes. No. I'm referring to character models, armor, and shaders. They all look like garbage. Not because the design is bad, but because they have sacrificed character detail to enhance the world. And while I liked it at first, after a while you just want your guardian to look cool, right? But in no way is the same appeal there that D1 had. Everything aside from like 4 shaders looks bland and boring. Emotes are all boring and recycled. The rendering of our guardians is jus bland and honestly kinda fuzzy. - The Raid. To absolute HELL with this raid. It's worse than Kings Fall. I actually enjoyed KF with a good team. But this. This is garbage. Far too many annoying mechanics. Too involved engagements. Checkpoints which need to be obtained again??! Yes I know that opening the door is easy but why must I do that every time or walk some stupid maze? This raid has no replay ability factor for me. I have lead and guided many players through D1 raids many times. I loved it. This raid makes me want to trade in the game. I hate it. The end. *- Thought I would add that running out of ammo DURING a firefight is absolutely ridiculous. And it happens so frequently. I've said on several occasions to my team that I'm just out of ammo.... I will end with this: Bungie told everyone on stage that they wanted to unlock the fun of Destiny. They wanted to make it accessible to a larger audience. They wanted people to experience the raids. Well I can tell you for sure that no one is in the slightest interested in using Guided Games for this raid, or anything like it. I wouldn't even use GG for this week's Nightfall, which is again super annoying and damn near impossible for a majority of players. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Let's make a super casual game and then throw The Leviathan at everyone along with a NF like this.... Gooood job Bungie. Ok I'm done.

      • So I see this whole "Mida is OP thing" everywhere, and it blows my mind. There is literally a weapons chart posted in the forums showing multiple other scout rifles have the same ttk as Mida. It isn't OP. Most of these maps DO have longer lanes though where scout rifles can shine. Mida is a familiar exotic that is a solid PvP choice. So it's an easy and familar choice for many players. It's the same scenario with Urials too. Although I havent seen an abundance of that, a fair amount, but also SMGs and sidearms as energy weapons. If I were to make ONE complaint about weapon balance, it would be that Hand Cannons with 150 rpm should be able to 3 shot (all headshots) in their optimal range.

        • The particle effects seem rendered well, but it's not hard to render a formless blob. Remember what it looked like when you kill someone with shoulder charge.

          Bungie either don't care about the game or are completely and totally creatively bland, they re-use Strikes for Raid Exotic quest missions (should be a unique Strike that once completed slots into your Strike playlist rotation) they re-use gun models from Common to Legendary. They re-used the 3 subclasses we've spent the last 3 years using and even managed to water them down (facepalm) let's face it, Destiny would 100% be a better game in another developers hands, because if Bungie ARE working to their maximum creative and developmental capabilities then wow, that's just embrassing! That being said, I enjoy PVP and the gun play is pretty amazing, it's all that keeps me playing honestly. I don't care about the story or the characters or the lore. Destiny, and I've said this many, many times over the last 3 years, is, has and always will be an arcade game designed to please all ages and all skill levels, which is what makes it so, what's the word, immaturely finished.

            Agree with op, a game for Weekend dads who play for 3 hours. Adding Mida to a quest line and making it meta was genius. I can't wait for the Dlc when suros and ghorn return.

            • I agree with most of everything you said. D2 doesn't at all have that pull over me like D1 did. One of the big things is fixed rolls. No piece of gear is exciting. There's no point to even look at a gun or armor piece any more. It's auto shard if it can't be infused, and as you said they re used so many gun models and exotics. It's pretty obvious they made this game for the person that plays an hour or two on the weekend. Yea Bungie, those are the people that are gonna keep Your game alive when there's no content.

            • Yep Year 1 we had Vault of Glass to keep the game alive and this new raid is just not fun. Once the honeymoon period is over player numbers will drop and with these around the corner.... Forza 7, AC Origins, COD, BF2 PubG, SoW and Wolfenstein!! Destiny 2 is in Trouble. The 1X version better get the treatment.

                Ok so i disagree with nearly all you points: -Raid is fairly easy, but i agree Calus is hell - There is a new subclass -Adventures and lost sectors are useful until around 265, and have you ever heard of fun. -Ive ran out of ammo twice, and thats when i was messing around with the fighting lion -I 100% agree with the guided games thing -They did a good job with emotes and shaders, the raid one is amazing -Mida is not the best pvp weapon, it is not op, its overused -There is so much content, are we playing the same game?

                  This was an interesting read. I shared a lot of the feelings that you have expressed but some of the complaints you have just felt like you didn't like that the game wasn't as easy as D1. The raids in D1 were literally simple. After the first week everyone was capable of running through it like it was just a lap race. IT wasn't a huge problem but eventually doing raids felt like doing a nightfall with better gear. Speaking of nightfalls, I feel the timer idea is annoying but it's different and actually adds some difficulty in the game- WHICH EVERYONE IN D1 WAS ASKING FOR. You're idea on the crucible sounds like you miss having a game where the people with the best gear could just run around map with a super every 3 mins. A game mode with faster supers does sound like fun but the new smaller teams with slower super timers ARE WAY BETTER. Actually requires tactics without having 3 people running around just spamming supers. I enjoy having to use guns in this game. D2 is completely a better game. The story was easy- yes, but there was actually A STORY LINE. Now that's no excuse to buy the game, especially since every other game has a real story line, but it's an improvement. The loot can definitely use work. I too am bored with the Same 275 blue drops, but the gameplay is way better and more interesting. AS for trials........ NEEDS WORK. Anyone who didn't complete it in the first few days were out gunned by MIDA and the final days were extremely frustrating for me since I actually work and need to leave my house lol. In all honesty, I feel bad for Destiny because they can't get any real feedback because everyone wants the game built around themselves with certain details that specifically benefit that one person. That's not how a game works. Destiny two is way more balanced and is EASILY AN UPGRADE compared to D1.

                  • Too many QoL things that need to be addressed to even mention. Still no set bonuses and lack luster perks in gear. Caters to PvP a lot. They don't know how to balance PvP and PvE at all. I finally might be on board wth a WoW type solution... lockout exotic flavor text from PvP and make exotics op as -blam!- in PvE again.

                    • I still can't believe, destiny 2 has the same 3 classes (basically the same subclasses as destiny 1, Just with minor tweaks) No new classes. What a disappointment. Bungie, needs to bring out a new class and a 4th subclass for all classes, When they release a destiny 2 expansion.

                    • Arms Dealer Strike... At boss and hes 80% health. Guys... I am completely out of Ammo 0/0/0 AR, SMG, Sword (Dawnblade Flyer tree) and Abilities take forever even with mods... Im standing there, feeling absolutely lost and helpless. Like wtf do I do with no ammo and no power?

                      • Brilliant post. Well put. I've kind of enjoyed it so far. I had a few days play on launch then went on holiday for ten days to Spain. I had a few hours last night doing various stuff and thought it wasn't as fun as I remember Destiny being. Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in it enough to keep playing a level all three classes. I want to do everything and explore everywhere. I'm still to do Trials and the Raid. I'll admit it, I'm probably in denial over how good D2 actually is. I tell people it's enormous fun and really interesting. Maybe I'm ashamed to say I spent £90 on a just above average game. Maybe it'll grow on me.

                      • Amen brother. Good to read some decent text. Honestly, I feel the same, and even more honestly, I only play because there's more people in D2 than D1. If it had even remotely the same amount of players, I'd still be in D1, since the crucible was my endgame enjoyment in D1. PvP in D2 is cancer. Prosecutor and Mida everywhere, can't choose between clash or control...it's like they they tried to copy league of legends' style and turn it into a fps...idk. D2 is just...bad. Fun at times, but still bad.

                      • Agreed. Destiny 2 took too many steps backwards. Everything is handed to you and there is nothing to hunt for. It is only Week 3 and for majority there is nothing left to do except replay the same content over and over.

                        • To add to the list (Agree totally with what you said btw) Strikes: Boring and long, the loot sucks and you can get mores in a public event Public events: No ones there most of the time?? (Court of oryx cough cough) Why? Because loot sucks, blue crap after blue crap, 1 in 20 for an exotic, probably less A day after Titan became the focus it should be rammed? Keep turning up to find just me? Even tried going to orbit and back, still no one there? Caydes treasure map- chests filled with the shit you find at the bottom of a vacume bag! 5000 glim per map? My ass! The list goes on Thing is, I feel the only objective in the game is to level up Once that's done then what?

                        • PVP is 100x better. The raid sucks. It is long, boring, and tedious. The mechanics are to unforgiving for a normal raid.
