Kinderguardian Part 7

It was time for lunch but Cometia was no where to be seen. Maura and Shanks-spear walked to the Spicy Ramen wagon and ordered up a bowl. Looking around, Maura chose an obvious place to sit so she could be easily found. She really didn't have to. Klare and Will would coordinate everything. Guardians were not difficult to find in the tower. Ever. Except for Cometia. Cometia had a habit of keeping Klare offline to communications. Maura had grown used to it, but Will had not. To Maura, Cometia being offline meant freedom to sneak around and get into mischief. To William, Klare being offline made him burn with curiosity. What were they doing all day and where were they? Surely they didn't go outside the city's walls much. The girl quickly ate and drank the broth after the noodles were all gone. Looking around the corner of the large doors across to the Speaker's perch, she noticed he was gone. Taking a deep breath and putting on her best casual face, she wandered slowly up the stairs to his desk. She pretended to look at the collection of pretty crystals, while looking over the documents. Nothing interesting or unusual. Just like him to put away all the fun stuff. She turned to the book case and larger server bay, ran her fingers over book spines and started reading titles. The Speaker himself startled her when he walked up behind her. She jumped and turned. “I didn't touch anything this time. I swear”, she quickly blurted, shoving hands deep into side pockets. “Guardian, what do you seek?” he said calmly. Unnervingly. “Um...I'm looking for information on Jupiter. Torros said you might have something pre-Golden Age about manned and unmanned missions.” She looked at him tilting his head slightly. Sometimes he seemed rather snake like, cold and unemotional in that mask looking to eat a mouse or rat. It was only when he spoke did anyone have any idea what was going on in his head. She often wondered if he was like Xur, an alien from another system with wiggle worms under that mask. He reached for a small book wedged between two larger ones. When he pulled, a few documents also slipped out and fell on the floor. Quickly they both picked them up and she handed the papers over. He gave her the book and rustled the little stack of papers into a neat pile. “I would like it back within the week. Otherwise it will get lost down in the Praxic library and I shall have to dig it out myself,” he said, tucking the tidy stack under another stack on his desk. Maura remembered the last time that happened. The Praxic librarians were not happy to have the Speaker rummaging through their things and scolded her roughly. The Speaker seemed quite amused though. Maura thought he walked away with more books than he should have. She thanked the white robed man and scurried away, clutching the small book on Jupiter tightly with blushed cheeks. “You're not very good at sneaking”, William told her as they walked all the way to the other end to the hanger. Going up the stairs to the Future War Cult lounge, Maura gave him a heavy sigh. “I wasn't sneaking that time Will. I was out in plain sight. I was hoping he would be gone longer.” Lakshmi over heard her conversation with the ghost. “Maybe you should hang out with the hunters more. They are excellent at sneaking and hiding in plain sight.” The exo's voice was deep and rich and beautiful, her garish FWC colors almost like a peacock. She gestured to the sofa and sat gracefully next to the girl. “I'm not going to ask hunters for much help. They say I ask too many questions.” Lakshmi laughed and replied “and titans think you talk too much.” Maura nodded and looked down at the book. Lakshmi looked down as well. “What do you have here?” she asked. “The Speaker loaned me a book on Jupiter.” She opened it, checked it for more loose pages by turning it upside down while flayed open and shaking. “It dumped papers everywhere. Hand written notes. I wish they hadn't fallen out. Those are probably more interesting than the book.” A shadowy figure stepped out of the corner from no where, a hunter in deep green colors with armor. The oranges and reds very muted and not near as glamorous as Lakshmi. His form vibrated with waves of power as he fully became clear. Maura gave a frown. “How long has he been there?” The two adults gave warm grins. “Not long,” he said. “I was chatting with the lovely Madame Lakshmi and heard you start to ascend the stairs.” With a flourishing bow, he took her hand and kissed the back of it tenderly. “I must go. There is unrest outside the walls and much to do.” Turning to the young girl he added. “If you like, I can get those papers for you. It would be a pleasure.” Maura waved a hand. “No. No. The moment he see's them missing, he will hunt me down downstairs and then I will be in trouble with the Order again.” Everyone gave a solemn nod in agreement and the hunter quietly left, his footfalls soft and quiet. She turned to Lakshmi with a silly girlish grin. “What was that? He sure liked kissing your hand.” “Never mind that young lady,” the exo murmured, making a brushing hand gesture. “Some hunters have more flourish than others.” “What is going on outside the wall?” the young girl asked, starting on the beginning pages and looking at the color images of Jupiter. The small sub-text read Jupiter is the largest planet, a gas giant and has over 70 moons. She did not look up at Lakshmi, as the exo was an excellent politician and social butterfly. If the world was crumbling outside, you would never know it from Lakshmi. “Oh the usual,” she said warmly. “Houses fighting each other. Political strife.” “Oh?” Maura said. “Kings and Wolves again?” “Yes,” she said, straightening the pleats in her robe. “Would you care for some tea?” “Why yes, that would be lovely,” the young girl said, closing the book and setting it aside. “Tell me what you know about Jupiter.” https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/230276272 Master Link List: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/230168273
