Does the crash occur when you go down the stairs towards the Vanguard area? Are you playing on a PS4 Slim (possibly in Europe)? If so, this seems to be an issue with PS4 Slims. Most posts I have seen about this issue were players that purchased these consoles in Europe and always crash on the stairs in the tower. I'm not sure if there was a manufacturing issue limited to just Europe or a console update, but the issue isn't limited to just Destiny.
