All of this sounds fantastic, other than weekly featured content which really needs to die... Timegating content in a game that doesn't have a subscription is truly cancer; I shouldn't feel like I have to play the game every single day because if I miss something I might have to wait a month to experience it. This was one of the few things that I absolutely hated in TTK and RoI managed to make it worse somehow and now D2 is going to follow suit. I get it, they don't want people to clear all the content in a week and complain it's too short but time gating content and then preventing people from experiencing it if they are not available when it is available is bad for consumers. Worst part is people are still going to complain about the amount of content no matter how slowly they trickle it into the game, so why even bother...

  • I wouldn't compare the Flash Points to time-gated content like the exotic quests in TTK. This is more like a patrol equivalent of a Nightfall. Different location is featured each week and drops a high level reward upon completion. Unless you are saying you hate Nightfalls?

  • No, It's closer to weekly featured raids since special bosses and more than likely special gear will only be available on specific locations when featured; meaning if you miss your chance to fight a special boss you have to wait 4 weeks to be able to try again. Nightfalls don't add any unique content, it's the same strikes with the same bosses with slightly modified rule sets; if you miss a nightfall you aren't missing out on any specific content. Any time a developer tells you when you should play is bad for consumers. We should be able to play any content any time we want, and the game should work around our schedules not the other way around. Rotating weekly featured content is just a cheap way of wringing extra time out of players and should have no place in a retail priced game.

  • How do you know the rewards will be unique and not just a Nightfall level reward? I might have missed that in the IGN video but don't remember anything specific like that.

They mention prestigious loot during the video, what that is exactly no one knows yet; but since TTK and RoI introduced strike specific gear it's not too far out there to assume that D2 will follow the trend of making specific drops come from specific bosses in strikes as well as flash points.

  • Ah, I missed the reference to "prestige" loot. In that case, I agree with you. I just figured this was Nightfalls for people who only do patrol.
