The Echo Saga || "Errands" #11 || Heavy Metal
Sorry for this long delay, I was on a biking trip in Italy and was very tired when I finally got home. I'll try to finish the final parts of "Errands" now, and I hope you enjoy. If you don't remember the story or even the character himself, don't hesitate to check the main page, whose link can be found in the bottom spoiler. Have a nice day!
ERRANDS Echo watched as the various members of the two Fireteams returned to their tents. Validus and Alzer started to listen to the recorded status report again, this time paying attention to the thousands of unit reports, writing down their findings. Avesk tuned in to the Cabal radio channel, and soon enough Cabal grunts and roars echoed through the room. After Colin sat down at his usual place in the hallway, picking up his rocket launcher again, Ava-3 walked towards Echo, who was cleaning the barrel of his fusion rifle, the 77 Wizard. "Hey", Ava-3 said somewhat awkwardly, leaning against the wall. It took a while before Echo answered. When he had replaced a part of his, he lifted his head and stared at the opposite wall. After a minute, which seemed to last an eternity, Echo shook his head and finally said: "Hi, Ava. I'm sorry for being like... this. It only now gets to me what I've seen. If the Cabal got crushed like this, I can't imagine what will happen to the Last City. I'm normally not like this, I'm the leader the Syndicate goddammit, I shouldn't thinking of the bloody City!" Echo sighed. "But I'm really worried about what will happen to the City when the Vex launch their attack. Thousands of innocents-" Ava-3 interrupted him by placing her hands on the sides of his head. As she started pulling of his heavy Warlock helmet, she whispered: "I know it has been a long time since we've seen eachother, but I'm here now. It's okay. We'll take down that Firebase together, darling" Echo's helmet finally left his head, and his Exo nature was finally revealed. A smioe split open his metal face, and he pulled Ava-3 closer. "So we're talking like that now, huh? I don't know if I agree... honey" They were both grinning like only a couple of lovers can when Validus walked in on them. Clearly surprised, he said: "I didn't know you were an Exo, Echo. This certainly is... unexpected. Do you just never say the numbers, or..." "I have none" When Echo saw Validus' frown, he added: "I'll explain later. I'm sure that's not why you came here" The tall Titan nodded seriously. "Avesk has picked up a radio signal from a Goliath tank not far from here. If we intercept it in time, it could be our ticket in" Echo was already grabbing his helmet, and Ava-3 checked her hand cannon before following Validus outside. It must have been an imposing sight (although there was nobody around to witness it), as six experienced Guardians formed a line, their armour reflecting the star's light. Echo realized that they had left the encampment unprotected, and was about to return, but was stopped by Validus. "We took the valuable things and hid the rest while you and Ava were having a... moment. We can't afford to lose more time, or the Cabal will exit the canyon they're currently in" Echo nodded, and the group of Guardians spread out and started running (!) towards the location of the Goliath. Their footprints were soon washed away by the Martian elements. When the tank finally appeared on their scanners, the Guardians were spread out over a couple hundred meters, and they quickly formed a circle around the presumed location of the Goliath. Barely any words were spoken through the main voice channel. They noticed the Cabal vehicle, and everyone advanced, except for Echo, who started to hack their communication systems and their radar. The Cabal didn't stand a chance, he knew. He noticed Ava-3, sneaking at the backside of the tank, and her fellow Hunter Avesk, crouching down, prepared to eliminate any Cabal that tried to escape. Colin, as always, chose a more direct approach and ran head first towards the tank, followed by a more careful Validus. Echo was wondering where Alzer was (probably guarding the back, he assumed), but was then distracted by Colin jumping up, and landing on the Goliath with a metallic sound. The Titan readied his shotgun and opened the entrance hatch. The first Cabal met the barrel of his weapon, and was quickly dispatched. The Titan jumped down, into the tank. To this day, it is not known what exactly happened inside there, only that there were no Cabal left when Validus reached it. Once everyone got in (even Alzer showed up), Echo sat down in the driver seat and started the engines again. Over the roar of the Cabal machinery, he shouted towards the back: "Here's the plan: we enter the base, find the large Conflux it is built around and blow it up. If we succeed, maybe the ground units of the Vex won't be able to contact their Minds anymore" Colin clearly didn't understand. "Which means?" "Their Pattern, their programming you could say, won't update, I hope. At least they won't be as fast to adapt to the situation" Colin punched the air and shouted: "ALRIGHT! Let's DO this! Vex Cofnlux, we're comin' for ya!" He made a grab for Validus' but the other Titan handily dodged him. And off they went, slowly disappearing into the dark Martian night. TO BE CONTINUED
More stories will be added onto the main page, which I will link here. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/226647634?sort=0
