Anyone else wondering why they wait until 7/17/17?
Wouldn't it be much cooler if the beta opened on Bungie day?

7/17/17 is a likely date. Be advised that 7/4/17 is a national holiday. Employees in the USA often take vacation around that date. This means we have at least a one-week waiting period until all vacations are complete. Availability of mission critical employees is required for this release.

It's just the fourth, it's not a holiday people take vacation for, this year I could see people taking the Monday off for a four day weekend but everyone would be back by the 5th anyway which is a wednesday. I don't see this affecting the beta from coming on 7/17 if that's the plan

Yes, that's the plan. Some forum members thought 7/7/17 would be the release date. There is no way that would happen with 7/4/17 so close to 7/7/17.

Most take the weekend, and a few extra days. But it's not one that some usually take a large number of days for. Plus the fourth is on a Tuesday so if they launched on Friday it would be fine. And they don't really need full staff to cover as they only really need senior devs and DBA/architect people.

Some employees take their vaction after the holiday so that they have an extended period.
-
Still we only need critical staff for a beta. As they won't push hot fixes unless it's something stopping gameplay. I.E. servers down, updating incorrect information...etc
-
This isn't just a DLC. It's a beta for an entirely new game.

They did take it down for maintenance during the first beta so I would expect a similar experience this time.

71717, get rid of the ones 777. But there are two ones which could mean 2 for Destiny 2. So 777 their lucky number and Destiny 2
